''The Mrs Sri Lanka beauty pageant descended into chaos at the weekend when a former title holder declared that the winner was ineligible because she was divorced, and forcibly removed her crown.

A video of the Sunday event opened with the 2019 winner of the competition and reigning Mrs World, Caroline Jurie, speaking to the audience shortly after the winner and runners-up were announced in Colombo.''

''Jurie started pulling out hairpins from De Silva’s hair, managed to remove the crown and placed it on the head of the competition’s runner-up, as De Silva left the stage. Celebratory music played in the background throughout the incident.

In a Facebook post on Monday, De Silva said she was not divorced but separated, writing in Sinhala: “If I wasn’t fit at the beginning of this tournament they could have removed me.”

The winning beauty queen was actually hurt when the crown was forcefully removed.
Vaguely recall a similar thing happened somewhere, curious now so off to google!

''The winner of the Mrs. Sri Lanka pageant is allegedly recovering from a head injury after a last-minute struggle over her new crown on Sunday, when another beauty queen ran up on stage and tried to strip her of her victory.''

''De Silva later claimed on Facebook that she suffered a head injury and had to be treated in hospital for the incident.

She also denied being divorced, although she did acknowledge that she is living apart from her partner for “personal reasons.”

“A true queen is not a woman who snatches another woman’s crown,” she wrote. “She is a woman who secretly sets another woman’s crown.”

''COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - Police in Sri Lanka on Thursday arrested the reigning Mrs. World for pulling the crown off the head of the winner of a Mrs. Sri Lanka beauty pageant and allegedly causing injuries. She was later released on bail.

Caroline Jurie, who won the Mrs. World 2020 competition, was accused of hurting Pushpika De Silva, who won the Mrs. Sri Lanka title at a televised pageant held in Colombo on Sunday.''

''Rohana said Jurie and a model, Chula Padmendra, were arrested Thursday on charges of “simple hurt and criminal force” and were later released on bail. The two women have been ordered to appear in court on April 19.''
