for the record... I am in no way defending Nurmi, and never once said he had character to lack. That's kind of my point. Why would you believe someone like that in the first place?

I don't know that they believed him.

But I know how easy it is to believe information from seemingly legitimate sources only to discover the source is rotten to the core.

If you're referring to the evidentiary hearing, I have that saved as a bookmark so I can listen to that again.

Right. But this email was AFTER Travis was murdered and waaaayyy after she knew Jodi was a psychopathic "bunny boiler". So there should have been ZERO doubt in her mind that Nurmi was lying on Jodi's behalf.

I don't for one minute think she believed TA was a pedo. I think she was more afraid that the accusation would come out and make her and her husband look bad by association. I also think the possible hit on their PPL business was in the forefront.

Again, MOO.

Frayed, I think we're going to confuse the lurkers! :floorlaugh:

I was referring to the email about not wanting Travis to date her sister. You're referring to Nurmi's email about the pedo letters being proven authentic.

But, yes, you're right. Only you could argue that they didn't believe that charge of pedophilia until Nurmi claimed he could prove it. It doesn't really make the Hugheses look good, but I'm not totally convinced they had a malicious reason for believing what they were told. I think they were in a situation way beyond any experience they'd ever had. They didn't behave well, that's for sure. I don't know that I'd want them as my friends. But I'm still reserving judgment on why they behaved they way they did.

IMO the justice system isn't perfect. I'll agree to that.

But the basic principle of the burden of proof is the prosecutions role ..protects everyone. It's not about the truth of the matter... It's about what they can prove beyond a reasonable doubt in a courtroom.

The sole job of the defense is to manufacture reasonable doubt by any means necessary within the bounds of the law. Once a defendant waived their 5th amendment and takes the stand.. What comes out of their mouth IS evidence.

Evidence whether direct or circumstantial is assigned weight by the jury. They are the fact finders.

I don't want to dismantle the justice system. I like it. It usually works.

You're right, usually it does work, but a lot of times it doesn't. And I'm not just thinking of that ONE who's name we do not speak . If even one innocent person is wrongly convicted it's one too many, and we've all read many cases where that happens. But I'm one of those that also believes that it's a travesty when an obviously guilty person walks because of the fickle sentimentality of the jury, or because of their ignorance of the basic fundamentals of law.

Don't throw tomatoes (or rocks lol), but I do see some upside for having "educated jurors". Maybe not "professional jurors" as I've seen discussed before, but at the very least make it mandatory for a person to go through some basic legal course in order to qualify for jury duty. So that they understand the fundamentals of the trial process, and important concepts like what constitutes reasonable doubt.

JMO. :truce:

Soooo....I have a dumb question.

How can a person who is shot in the head, while lunging, fall forward?

Is it that the momentum of the lunge is greater than the stunning effect of the bullet to the head.

Hmmm.

But don't you think Travis is smart enough to know that it would only be Jodi's word to everyone he was a pedophile? The Hughes knew she was a liar.

Besides, Travis did not have shred of *advertiser censored* on his computer. Not even regular guy *advertiser censored*.

True, it's an easy fix ... Hmmm.

I don't want to get into my personal life so all I'm going to say is this...

I have seen with my own two eyes very intelligent people accept as true things coming from the mouths of known liars, even tho they know in the past that same liar has targeted the listener.

It is VERY hard to confront someone who you do not entirely believe.
It is difficult to question someone's veracity when you cannot see what their motive for lying is OR you think the consequences for getting caught in the lie are too great a risk.

KWIM?

I do know what you mean. :seeya:

I just asked above about the "willing to lie" thing. Do you know how we know that? I've heard it but I don't know what the source of it is. Midwestmama said Juan mentioned it?

ACCCKKKK! I didn't mean to start a whole issue. I shouldn't have posted without a link. I will go look for one now. Time out and a little mercy til I am back please :please::floorlaugh:

This is what has gotten me from the beginning. He says he will tell her family. I can think of all kinds of things that he could tell his friends. For example, I can imagine someone spreading a rumor about me on Websleuths that would make you guys really dislike me. But my family? They'd just ignore the whole thing. I keep thinking whatever it is can be found in the many emails and texts we haven't seen, and maybe when the trial is over they'll be released.
I was thinking the same. My imagination can't compete with the reality presented in this case. But what could it be? The secret? I am at a loss. The only things I can even come up with:
She was a Manson follower and carrying out his acts of helter skelter. :stormingmad:

or Maybe JA was a callgirl and TA was going to out her.
She was an alien from another world with a fairly decent disguise but he knew what she looked like underneath the human suit.:moo:

She was a zombie in disguise, feeding on small animals and men.
:scared:

Whatever the secret,
I'd sure like to learn the truth instead of staring at my crazy list of possibilities.:please:

While it's outrageous that Jodi's family and friends wears ribbons to support DV (given we know the claim is a total sham), she has yet to be convicted in a court of law. Fortunately, Travis's family and his supporters wear ribbons in the courtroom too. Fair to both sides, even if we don't like it.

I prefer to think that JA's family is wearing the ribbons in support of Travis. It's totally subconscious on their part, but it IS what they're doing. ;)

I am so grateful to all the posters here, who have so much invested in the outcome of this terrible murder. The ONLY thing I am focusing on right now is JUSTICE FOR TRAVIS. No matter what happens, that is the most important thing. Let's all keep that vision in sight. JUSTICE FOR TRAVIS ALEXANDER, A VICTIM WHO WAS SLAUGHTERED IN COLD BLOOD.

Yes I agree our focus is justice and I pray were there soon.

Sky just said on DD that Jodi created a fake email about a man who was stalking HER in CA. She sent it to Travis. She wanted Travis to tell her to move to AZ. UNREAL.

Do we need a separate thread for the Hughes ?

:floorlaugh: Looks that way!

I'm trying to find out who's testifying tomorrow, my day has been just chaotic so have only picked up bits and pieces. Everyone's busy talking about something else. Oh well. :)

We don't know how long she bought it.

If it were me... I'd probably ...freak out...start hyperventilating.,, Run to the phone and start screaming at Juan demanding to know why he didn't tell me!

But this was AFTER JA brutally butchered TA. By that point you would HAVE to know that nothing JA claimed was true.

Believe me, I am super freaky when it comes to my child. She is 11 and we have hosted countless sleepovers but she has never spent the night away. Mostly because our house seems to be the gathering spot, but the few times she has has reciprocal invites, it has been with families I don't know well enough. So we have declined. I prefer to be the hosting house, lol!

But after Travis' murder and all of Sky's worst fears were brought to light, why would she believe Nurmi? It just rings like CYA to me. Like she thought "just the bad press could make us look bad so I'm gonna distance us from Travis".

Again, MOO

I just asked above about the "willing to lie" thing. Do you know how we know that? I've heard it but I don't know what the source of it is. Midwestmama said Juan mentioned it?

Matt McCartney told an investigator that he would be willing to lie for Jodi. He wrote this himself on the JAII website and JM made an allusion to it while questioning Jodi. I doubt Juan would have said this if it weren't the truth.

until I had personal experience with lawyers, it never occurred to me that they just lie/make stuff up both inside and outside the courtroom.

DT tells the Hughes' they have letters where TA admits he's a pedo; Hughes' believe them because it would never occur to them that the DT would just make something like that up.

Simple.

But did Skye have to repeat this information in an email to yet another friend? Isn't that gossiping? Why was she so quick to believe something so evil about such a close friend? Just sayin...

lol. Don't worry about it. It was a minor point that mushroomed. Didn't intend to call you out in a "pressure" way :)

Juan mentioned it. Jodi said he wouldn't betray her, the coded messages, his bringing the forged letters forward in the first place, the saw marks on her.,,.
