I was just reading the WRAL GOLO board. Most of those posters are totally clueless.
Thankfully, this board has thoughtful, intelligent discussion for both sides (including the fence).

I agree about the wral golo board, the people on there just fight with each other. It's nice to be on WS and read, I may not say much but I appreciate the intelligent conversation. Much more respectful on this board.

I am trying not to become obsessed with the case, but just like the Casey Anthony saga, I seemed to have gotten sucked into this. I think I am already to hear more concrete circumstantial evidence at this point. I am listening to her friends build the case but I feel like so far it has been unfair to BC to say all of this when not much evidence has been shown yet.. I just get this feeling they are dragging their feet too much and beating a dead horse about how miserable NC was in their marriage.

My 2 cents.

She actually wasn't going to be paid for painting that Saturday morning. Also, Nancy spent $27,000 in one year on credit, the family finances were a mess. Because of the debt, and the fact that they were in the process of divorce, Nancy was receiving $300/wk for groceries, gas and pocket money. I think $300 a week should have been enough for those necessities, but Nancy wanted to spend the money on pedicures/manicures for herself and the pre-schoolers. I get the impression that Nancy was living far beyond their means, and was unwilling to work with Brad to curb their spending.

jmo, $300.00 per week is not excessive based on his income. Diapers are expensive. Children outgrow their clothes frequently at their childrens' ages Some women do use 'retail therapy' to deal with passive-aggressive husbands. It is very important and necessary for runners to take care of themselves, especially their feet. Sometimes women that are regular customers of a salon/spa, a nail technician will do their daughters mani-pedis gratis on occassion. just saying...

None of your criticisms justify what BC is accused of doing, right?

Otto.....By many accounts, the defendant is a rather odd duck, to say the least. Did you see the deposition on the mental evaluation? Discussions about his parents and upbringing is quite relevant to the discussion of BC's state of mind when considering if he killed Nancy.
Nancy is the victim, as are her parents. You're right, don't go there.

I say leave the parents alone. If we are going to hold parents responsible for the actions of their married, adult children, I have to ask at what age we decide that adults are responsible for their actions. For example, do we blame the parents for the actions of a 30 year old, 50 year old, 70 year old? Where is the cut off if it isn't that point in time when the adult is an adult?

Given the family debt load, how much should Nancy have received for weekly groceries, gas and pocket money?

I'm a fringe poster only interested in this case, but I think discussions about Brad's parents aren't really helpful at this stage. Taking shots at them is unfair. They must be in a very difficult situation for them even if his mother is cold. And the shots taken might be true, I don't know. I prefer a good discussion about the evidence coming out.

Brad's upbringing will be relevant to discuss when it comes time to decide how long he spends behind bars, however! :violin:

I'm fairly certain he did it. I'm not certain the state will prove it, but it looks like things are going in that direction. Lots could change my mind in the coming weeks however.

I am a stay at home mom and spend about $150 per week for groceries and gas and never go out to eat or get my nails done, in fact haven't gotten my hair cut since November... she could have buckled down.. but she lived in Lochmere.. and had all these people to look good for.. I know their pool membership is insane I have a friend that lives in lochmere... and Harris Teeter is the expensive grocery store.. food lion rocks on a budget, even kroger. but you know she didn't go there!

If we're going to throw mud at the parents of Brad ... please realize that the mud is going to fly at Nancy's parents too. Do we really want to take the discussion down th sat road?

Otto - Please excuse, the affy was by Jim Lister, NC's brother-in-law who is married to NC's twin sister. Just read (or re-read) the affy here:

http://www.wral.com/asset/news/local/2008/10/03/3668365/26275-Oct._2_affidavit_of_Jim_Lister.pdf

I am not trying to disparage any family member -- not at all. What I was trying to say was that if BC's mother is as JL testified, it might help to explain why BC is/was so aloof and seemingly cold-hearted. As in, "the child is father to the man..." By the same token, BC's mom was probably raised the same way -- I am sorry if my language was such that you inferred what you did. Please excuse, but read the affidavit. TIA.

According to evidence presented by the defense, she went to BJ's. He went to Harris Teeter. We have no evidence that she shopped at Harris Teeter.

I just want to say that no one is taking SHOTS at Brad's parents. Don't you observe when a person is unloving, unfeeling, is that a SHOT? I feel very sad about it. Nancy had the opposite environment. Brad was a product, as are many people, of his environment. That was what he was raised in, and partially explains his behavior. Why defend every single, solitary thing??? The only reason I can think of, is, people who are controlling, cold, and domineering don't recognize it in themselves...or others.

And that unwillingness to work with Brad is probably what got her killed.

Something that I found interesting was that we heard alot about the "Cary Clique", yet it is now coming to light that the common thread many of these people had were that they were friends of Nancy but not necessarily with each other. There have been several mentions of knowing who a person was or that they had met at sometime but it did not appear that they all hung out together. I get the feeling that many of Nancy's friends became friends with each other as a result of Nancy's death.

Given the family debt load, how much should Nancy have received for weekly groceries, gas and pocket money?

In my opinion, the amount of an allowance for household expenses is usually a mutually agreed upon compromise :) The fact that Nancy was willing to do manual labor to subsidize her allowance is admirable.

Back to the origininal question.

Do you feel any of your criticisms of NC would justify what BC is accused of doing to his wife?

Maybe my wording was wrong. When posting I was thinking about what I'd feel if I were her and saw the allegation.

Poster RKAB has met his parents and was of the view they were very loving.

Unwillingness to work with Brad is a motive for murder, huh?

How about he was a control freak who lost control?

He probably had no idea that Nancy was planning to paint at JA's house. And when JA spoke to BC that Sat morning she didn't tell him of their plans.

SG,

Oh, but then we have a REAL conundrum.

Have you forgotten the TARP that BC picked up for NC to use while painting? Why on earth would he pick up a tarp for NC to use while painting, if he thought she was already finished painting? Yes, this is circular logic. Interesting and an excellent point about not calling JA when she was "missing". But, her car was also there, and she did not run to JA's house.

Now, we don't know for sure, but as I mentioned previously, I make repeated calls to my wife's cell if I don't know where she is, and she is supposed to be somewhere. We have not heard that this is the case, yet. BC also picks up a tarp for painting that he does not even know is happening? At the same time, he does not call JA, nor any of her friends as far as we know.

I'm not sure what that question has to do with this case.

How about he was a control freak who lost control?

Other than trying to keep the family finances under control, and trying to prevent his children from being permanently removed from the country, what did he control?
