CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Search efforts continue for a 49-year-old cyclist in Chaffee County, who has now been missing over a week.

Suzanne Morphew went for a bike ride on May 10 west of Maysville in the area of Chaffee County Road 225 and West Highway 50. Her neighbors called the county sheriff's office when she didn't come home. Morphew's family has said her husband, a volunteer firefighter, was out of town at the time of her disappearance.

Authorities are asking residents in the area to preserve any and all video footage from devices such as Ring doorbells, security cameras, game cameras etc., from May 8 through May 12. As of Monday afternoon, the sheriff's office was requesting the surveillance to only be preserved. As search areas are identified, investigators will contact residents in those locations to collect any camera footage.

"One of the most helpful ways the community can aid in the search of Suzanne Morphew is by preserving these recordings. We are aware that some systems override video after several days, and we want to ensure video remains available if needed," Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said

Morphew was reportedly an avid cyclist.

Morphew's husband released a video Sunday pleading for his wife's safe return, which can be viewed just below this article. If reading this article on our app, click "Additional Content Available."

Morphew's bike was reportedly recovered the night she vanished. The Chafee County Sheriff's Office confirmed Friday that a “personal item” belonging to Morphew was found just west of CR 225 and Highway 50. The sheriff's office would not comment on what the item was.

CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. — It’s been nine days since a mother vanished in Chaffee County.

Suzanne Morphew, 49, was reported missing on Mother’s Day, May 10 after she didn’t return home from a bike ride. A family member told FOX21 News that her bike was recovered on Sunday, although the Chaffee County Sheriff’s office would not confirm this information.

The 52-year-old is currently staying at a property close to the marital home and has been joined by friends who have flown in from his native Indiana.

A woman at the house on Monday declined to give her name but said she and her husband had come to support Morphew and look for Suzanne.

Morphew was pictured leaving the property along with Davis shortly before the CSI investigators arrived to search his home on Tuesday.

The search comes just two days after police divers drafted in from neighboring Pueblo County were seen scouring a reservoir less than a mile from Suzanne's property.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Department had been looking for Suzanne in two-mile ‘targeted blocks’ on either side of her home but did not conduct a search on Monday.

Morphew’s colleagues from the Maysville Fire Station have also been attempting to help with the search, although one told DailyMail.com they have been warned off by police.

Tim Nelson, 33, said: ‘The Sheriff’s office, they told us none of the fire guys are allowed up there.

‘They can’t keep us out of the forest so that’s what some of the others have done – they set up their own little search party.’

Nelson added: ‘It’s a bad deal you know. They aren’t telling us anything. We got excluded from everything.

‘George [Davis] put together a search team of friends – I was going to go but pretty much all our fire guys are on it so I decided to step away just in case we get something [a fire].

‘Barry was very understanding from what I got from George. I know he’s not allowed to go home. He’s at a neighbor’s. I guess they got him there until he’s cleared or…’

Other friends spoke of the family in glowing terms, noting that Suzanne had been happy living in Colorado since moving to the state from Alexandria, Indiana, in July 2018.

Fire Chief Robert Bertram, 40, said he and his colleagues are still hoping she will be found alive and added that he doesn’t believe she would have left by herself.

Search For Suzanne Morphew: Sheriff Says Search Warrant Is Sealed

May 20, 2020

“…the house continues to be held by law enforcement during this open investigation through a search warrant that has been sealed by the court,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze stated that it is not unusual in these types of investigations to start at the home and extend outward, in an effort to seek clues surrounding the disappearance.

“The Morphew residence is just one of many areas of focus as part of this open investigation at this time,” officials with the sheriff’s office stated.

As of Wednesday, May 20, investigators had received approximately 200 tips reported to the designated phone line for information about Morphew’s disappearance.

Morphew was last seen on Mother’s Day, May 10. Her husband was in Denver, her family says, and a neighbor reported Morphew missing when she didn’t return from her bike ride.

Morphew’s bicycle was recovered, along with an additional “personal item.” Investigators have not described the personal item or released information about the condition of the bike. Sheriff Spezze did say he believes it is unlikely that Morphew was attacked by an animal.

Police confirm sealed search warrant for home of missing Colorado mom Suzanne Morphew
Police in Colorado have confirmed that investigators have obtained a sealed search warrant for the home of missing woman Suzanne Morphew, who disappeared from her Maysville home on May 10.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, there have been conflicting reports about a possible search of Morphew’s home, but authorities have declined to comment on a report published by the Daily Mail on Wednesday showing photos of investigators and a Crime Scene Investigation van that were reportedly taken at or near the remote central Colorado home. The Daily Mail report came just hours after a Chaffee County Sherrif Public Information Officer clarified a local report claiming that authorities were searching the home on Tuesday, telling another area reporter that the home was not being searched at the time.
