This is an interesting situation. Daily we, as a society, we bury what is being called an "evil person". We have buried past terrorists, serial killers, mass murders, arson,. you all are with me.

Who decides the differences? All instances and victims suffer pain and despair etc.

I think the mother made a big difference in this case. If she had kept quiet and/or showed more respect to the victims the emotions might not run so high now. People simply want nothing to do with this family, dead or alive, and I understand that.

He wasn't a citizen here. He killed those people because he hates Americans.
His family lives elsewhere.

IMO it's a disgrace to have him buried in American soil.

Shipping him back to his parents would be the nicest thing we could do for the .

Either that or dump him on the ocean and let the sea life nibble at him until he's a pile of bones.

No matter what we do with his body, it will not be right.
His family changes their minds like the wind shifts.

I say give the uncle two options:

1) uncle can pay for the shipment to Mommy and Daddy and let them deal with it.

2) he will be tossed off of a Navy ship like Bin Laden (whom I'm quite sure he idolized).

I wouldn't want him buried by anyone I love. I'm sure most Americans feel the same way.

What has been done in previous cases doesn't really matter to me at this time. We are talking about TT.

Get him off our soil.

In court documents filed Saturday, Phillipos’s lawyers and supporters said he is the only son of Genet Bekele, a domestic violence specialist who moved to the state in 1981 and has since earned three college degrees: an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northeastern University, and a master’s degree in social work from Boston University.

BBM

Why is it stressed that he is the ONLY son? Does that give him a special privilege? So his mom has worked hard and achieved her master's, has she put the degrees to use and is she working? As we all know, children don't necessarily follow in their parent's footsteps. Phillipos may not have the interest or desire to be studious as his mom was! Why was he hanging out with these Russian students?

It sounds like the lawyers are going to need to have a pow-wow - these 19 year olds either will all be called adolescents or adults. It's "lawyer talk" and they will be tried as adults regardless what the lawyers call them! These lawyers sure like to spin a good one.

They are adults.
In the eyes of the court.

And they are criminals.

So, I say we stick with adults.

It's interesting to see how defense attorneys handle a situation. Every day, I deal with defense attorneys. I understand they have a job to do, but they aren't going to convince the general public to buy into mitigation in this situation.

There is no, "It's just..."

We aren't talking about people who hid a beer for an underage friend or some pot.

there are countries where if an American, say a Christian dies, the community would not want to bury the person. How would we feel as Americans? We would decry their barbarity.

I think we are better than that and we need to show the world that. I agree that a named plot would not be good. People make shrines out of all kinds of graves.

What do they do for the stars who die? I do not know. Elvis or Michael Jackson, for instance? Not that I am equating them to the bomber, just the issues of people coming to the grave

How would that other country treat an American christian if that American christian committed an act of terror agains the people of their country? TT has reaped what he has sown!

Did you make enough for everyone?....lol

All good, I just thought "holy cow I've missed a new person in all this"

I learned today that cassava, from which tapioca is made, contains arsenic! I love yuca, which is also cassava, but glad I don't eat it often!

ITA with your feelings about uncle Ruslan. He is doing the decent thing, stepping up in a very unpleasant situation and does what needs to be done.

Was he staying at the dorm before?

This (bold) was in response to my question about the statement that Phillipos would be confined to a house other than his own... I don't think a dorm can be considered a full time legal residence? But maybe you're right. I assumed they meant a home other than his mother's.

Off topic: just watching AC 360 and they are showing live that 3 women that were kidnapped 9 and 10 years ago as teenagers were found ALIVE just blocks from where they went missing in Ohio!! That is huge! That is so wonderful! So happy for them and their families!

Gina DeJesus is one name I caught ...

ETA:

Amanda Berry and Michelle Knight ...

I think a point worth making is we are not other countries. We built our country on being different than other countries and on doing what's right even though it may not be what's popular with our citizens.

I'm not saying he should be buried anyplace his family wants, or that he deserves to be treated with respect but even Osama Bin Laden the worst terrorist ever was given a service that accommodated both his religious needs and the needs of the country.

I think there's a compromise to be made here somehow that puts this chapter of the marathon bombings behind the City of Boston, the victims and the nation.

O/T Any recent news on how Jane Richards is doing?

Funeral director now giving live interview on CNN.

He thinks the fact that TT is muslim makes it worse. People did not protest like that when Bundy, Dahmer and other murderers were buried, and they killed more people.

He seems a bit frustrated, but very level headed.

ETA: he is ready to ship the body to Moscow, talked to mother on the phone but so far no confirmation from, nobody that will take the body when it arrives in Russia. So he can't send it.

The motion said that Phillipos had not had any contact with Tsarnaev for two months and only happened to be on the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth campus that day "by sheer coincidence and bad luck" to attend a seminar.

Ack, WHY do they keep building this straw man?? He isn't charged with being in contact with DT, and he isn't charged with 'deliberately' being on campus that day and he isn't charged with attending a seminar. It is pointless to keep denying something he's not charged with!

He's charged with LYING! He LIED. Who cares why he was on campus that day? He went into a terrorist's dorm room, suspected/knew he was the bomber and was with people who removed evidence and then he LIED about it to federal officials during questioning. That's what he's charged with!

Well, luckily his family wants him buried in Russia and his Uncle can afford to send him there, so it's just a matter of time that they reach that accommodation between his religious deeds and the needs of the country.

edit: haha, I meant religious "needs" not deeds - Freudian slip.
