Elon Musk says in Thailand with mini-sub for cave rescue

"WASHINGTON: American space entrepreneur Elon Musk tweeted that he was in Thailand on Tuesday (Jul 10) with a prototype mini-sub, at the flooded cave where five members of a youth football team remained trapped.

"Just returned from Cave 3," Musk said.

"Mini-sub is ready if needed. It is made of rocket parts & named Wild Boar after kids' soccer team. Leaving here in case it may be useful in the future.""

Snip

"There is no indication so far that Thai rescuers plan to use Musk's prototype."

Thai prime minister Prayut Chan-ocha met last night with families of the trappped young footballers overnight at Chiang Rai hospital. He told them:”no matter how much we spend no one complains about it. Life is the most important.”

Baloney. I seriously doubt all the people who have converged on the scene in Thailand are credentialed news media. The two instances cited in the story would not be allowed in the U.S. where media have to abide by a code of professional ethics.

The police in the U.S. always push back media to distances where ever they want them especially when they are trying to provide privacy to a victim. Police radio frequencies are not all public in the U.S. In fact, many communities now are totally encrypting all police radio traffic. And there are laws concerning drones, their effect on air safety and interference with air craft.
The US is a bad example. The US is a police state. We are not high on press freedom, but we are way above Thailand. If this was the US, the press would have been allowed to stay at the cave entrance, and they would be allowed across the street from the hospital ER entrance. The US government would not openly threaten journalists as has the Thai government. Also police radio frequencies are public in the US, and reporters can report what they hear on them.
