Thousands Expect Apocalypse in 2012

After Jan 1, 2000, didn't they say that 2001 was the end? (It seemed to change when no one could decide when the "new millenium" actually started?)

Funny about your MIL, my mom has told me for years that Bill Clinton was the anti-Christ.

I am glad to be here and once I am there, I am sure I will be glad to be "there" too. As long as my loved ones are with me, it doesn't matter where I am.

bahaa maybe it was 2001.
I don't have time to worry about such a thing...then again maybe I should bump up that trip to Italy. :applause:

For 2000 - the Y2K computer bug - that was very real. Took a ton of work by countless computer programmers around the world to stop that one. Fortunately, all the hype helped to ensure everything was checked. It wouldn't have ended the world - but banks being unable to let you have access to your money, elevators stopping, airplane software failing, sure would have put a dent in it!

I tell ya, my bill collectors sure didn't have trouble with the Y2K bug. I was hoping the mortgage and every other bill would have been wiped out, but it didn't happen! (LOL!)

I am happy that it didn't cause as much chaos as was predicted.

I think in your earlier post about the person who is predicting the end and selling supplies to help is priceless. If it's the end, who really needs the supplies? (LOL!)

Yes, and most people misinterpret the Mayan calendar. 12-21-2012 is supposed to be the end of one time period and the beginning of another....a great cleansing of sorts. I understand it to mean something will happen, that we are in the age of enlightenment now and when 12-21-2012 comes around, a new age begins.
As far as enlightenment goes...we are becoming a more conscientious society about our world...so I guess that could that age could be correct.
And all of the well known signs are present, ie; hatred is high among countries and with all of the extraordinary natural disasters lately, it does seem that Mother Earth is trying to shake us off...so I lean toward the side that something will happen.
I can't imagine what will happen and I am not at all ready to go, but if I have to for the greater good of the Earth, then so be it.

But....my sensibility says I'll wake up on 12-22-2012 just the same as any other day.
Guess we'll see!

(but I'm stocking up just in case!)

If it's supposed to be the end of the world as we know it, what are you going to stock up on? Just wondering.
Maria

Chocolate.

If it's going to be the end of the world - I figure a chocolate binge is in order!

Exactly! If the world is going to be in such a mess...I'd rather be with the Lord anyway!!!

Nothing you can really do about it if the world is going to end. Start making happy memories.

What if the Mayans predicted the arrival of a giant asteroid coming back in 2012 in which this asteroid is so big, it throws the Earth out of it's current orbit around the sun? That would end things as we know it.

I sure hope they're wrong about this. I want to live to see my grandbabies!

In about 1989 (when I was 10) I read in a magazine about a cult who was predicting the end of the world later that year. I was very freaked out until my mother told me that when she was a teenager she had read something similar with a sect predicting the world would end in two days but aliens would rescue the sect members. Mum said she saw photos of the sect members climbing a hill with their suitcases awaiting the aliens. I asked her what happened. She said after the two days the people picked up their suitcases and climbed back down the hill. I'm not worried.

That made me laugh Kiki....I can picture them coming back down the hill with their suitcases:dance:

Glad to make you laugh Ciara. :blowkiss: I just hope none of them told their boss or mother-in-law exactly what they thought of them the day before they climbed the hill.

Afraid so.
Since I listen to Coast to Coast AM, I am starting to feel paranoid about this. LOL. I am stocking peanut butter and SPAM by the cases in my basement. ;)

No joking, people for hundreds of years have given 2012 as "the end". How things are going in the middle east and Iran being all sorts of crazy, it very well could be.

I know you are kidding but peanut butter and spam? I think I'd rather be dead.

Well, I for one don't believe in all that hookie business, but just to be on the safe side I'm not going to start my Christmas shopping that year until 12/22.....

Man, I hope this doesn't become a self fulfilling prophecy.
I'd hate to see some terrorist group seize on the popularity of the 2012 target date to try to make it a reality.
Other than than, I don't buy end of world dates.
