Three children and two teenagers have been arrested over the murder of an 80-year-old man. Leicestershire, UK.

Lots of major crimes being committed by minors in the UK recently. Not sure about other countries but I wonder if the result of growing up in lockdown periods is beginning to manifest. This is awful stuff.

That and the lack of discipline and respect. Many young people these ages are under the impression they can do or say what they like without consequences. It's like they are not taught respect for others, self respect and civility.

JMO, but I think they're connected. I don't think it's separate - these are things we pick up from being part of a community. It's totally plausible that not being adequately socialised at a young age might result in violence and a misunderstanding of consequences. Basic stuff these children might have learnt at the end of primary school is just nonexistent for months at a time. We might be seeing pointless and senseless crime like this for a little while IMO.

What on earth am I reading? An 80 year old man, walking his dog, viciously attacked by children? What is happening in this country?
It's awful.
You'd think that even an elderly person walking his dog in a park near a built-up area would be safe. This wasn't out in the wilderness somewhere.
According to this article Pictured: Dog walker, 80, 'kicked to death by group of children' linked further up-thread, his dog was a big dog, you'd think capable of protecting him.
I doubt it's Britain only at the moment though. Brutal attacks in other countries, partially also by children and youths. MOO

Appreciate your response and yes, agree they are likely connected, and yes will see more and more of it. It is alarming.
My Mam is in her 80's, this is my biggest fear for her, terrifies me in fact.
Just don't think everything is down to schools to teach, we have parents/guardians etc to help guide us to

Appreciate yours too. Sorry if I was vague, I didn't mean to insinuate that it's all on teachers! I just meant that school's a great environment to make errors like (mild) violent retaliation and antisocial action, because there's trusted figures who can correct it, and when you're eight it's easy to learn and move on from.

But not like this. Even when parents are doing their best, their children can make devastating decisions - Brianna Ghey's case springs to mind, her mother and the mother of one of her killers are now friends and carry out activism together. Obviously I can't speculate on the background of these children but it's hard to imagine these actions coming out of thin air. JMO.

How truly awful, being alive for 80 years, he was obviously still agile and independent going about his day walking his dog. Then his life ended by children... senseless.

Agreeing with others there does seem to be more violent crimes being committed by younger teenagers these days, I too have wondered about the impact of lockdown.

It is happening everywhere. I have no idea where this violence in young people is coming from.

I wonder if the younger kids are inticed by older teens/adults, grooming them into a life of crime. The minors do not face long prison sentences if caught, yet they become part of the crime community (aka gangs, for example).
