An investigator with a national missing children's organization said Thursday that police have "a fair shot" of solving the case of a 14-year-old Milan girl who disappeared more than 10 years ago.

The Milan Police Department recently requested help from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's program called Project Alert Volunteers. The center sent two investigators, Don Newsom and Dave Haight, who arrived over the weekend to assist local police.

Cayce Lynn McDaniel was last seen entering her house off U.S. 45 in Milan on Aug. 16, 1996. Friends dropped her off at home after attending a church service.

"We told the family just to don't give up hope," said Newsom, a retired Secret Service agent. "I personally don't hold out a lot of hope that Cayce's still alive, but there's always that hope that she is."

"At the very least, I think we have a fair shot, along with the Police Department, of resolving the case," Newsom said.

Four days after starting high school, 14-year-old Cayce Lynn McDaniel disappeared from her home on Aug. 16, 1996. She had just returned home from a service at Double Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the church she had attended, and was last seen by her friends when they dropped her off at home. When her family came home, the back door was open and Cayce was gone.

Her family and friends have kept Cayce's disappearance in the spotlight by holding a candlelight vigil every year since she went missing.

Cayce's aunt, Gina Walls, of Gibson, attended this year's vigil, which was held on the anniversary of Cayce's disappearance.

"We haven't found her or the person who is responsible for her disappearance," Walls said last week. "We expected for this not to continue for 11 years. (Authorities) are at least revisiting (the case). They're trying to follow through."

Walls said her family doesn't expect to find Cayce alive.

"No, not from the tips and leads police have gotten so far," Walls said. "It would be great if she was found alive. But when you look at reality, you realize that probably isn't a possibility. By now she would have been found and someone would have been caught."

Walls added, "You hope the person who did it will have a guilty conscience that pricks their heart and they will confess what they have done to her."

She misses many things about Cayce, including her love of education.

"Cayce was very bright, talented and smart," Walls said. "She was ready for high school and college. She was really looking forward to college."

Cayce has been missing 14 years today. Come home soon.

Authorities say Milan teen missing for 14 years is likely dead
---
"Basically her mom called and asked to speak to Cayce and when that didn't pan out...that's when it came out that," [her best friend Amber] Hansen said. "She came home late, the back door was standing open, Cayce's bedroom TV was on, the clothes she'd worn to the social were out like she'd already gotten ready for bed, a bowl of cookies and milk were sitting in the floor, there were no signs of a struggle. It was almost like she got up and walked out in her pajamas."
---
Fourteen years after her disappearance, investigators are still following up on every new tip. But neither they nor friends believe they will find Cayce, alive.

"Ordinarily some word would be heard from the victim, but in this case we've heard absolutely nothing," [Milan Police Chief Tim] Wright said. "That's not to say she can't be alive, but it doesn't look like she is."

I think her mom needs another looking at. I find it strange that she waited 10 hours to report Cayce missing and even stranger that she has disappeared herself and no one knows where she is. Most parents would give the police a contact number or address if they moved, in case something about their missing child was found out. Very weird.

Cayce McDaniel's mother is missing as well? Has she been found yet? Any updates in this case?

So many missing from Tennessee.

McDaniel returned to her family's home in Milan, Tennessee at approximately 12:30 a.m. on August 16, 1996 after a church party. A chaperone dropped her off there and watched her go into the house. Other family members arrived at their residence at approximately 1:30 a.m. - 2:00 a.m. and discovered that the back door was open. There was no sign of McDaniel inside the house and she has never been heard from again. McDaniel was possibly wearing a t-shirt and boxer shorts at the time of her disappearance. She was probably barefoot. Foul play is suspected in McDaniel's case. A sketch of a possible suspect in McDaniel's disappearance is posted below. He is described as being in his early twenties in 1996, with a dark complexion, dark hair and dark eyes. He was approximately 6'0 and weighed 165 - 170 pounds. The suspect had a scar underneath his right eye and wore an earring in his right ear. He has never been identified. Cayce McDaniel: Missing 15 Years

snipped...

"This is Milan, Gibson County, not Memphis," Hansen said. "Most people here, everybody here knows somebody who knows somebody. I'm still in awe that its 14 years later and no one has breathed a word and come to any closure."

Investigators say they can't locate Cayce's mom Cindy.

Cayce McDaniel is still missing. I don't know who was questioned when she disappeared or where they may be now. It would be great to get police to talk to them again to confirm their stories. Also, search basements of houses in the area she went missing. Ask residents to allow cadaver dogs in crawl spaces and in basements. If they decline, they do. If not, you never know who might have once lived there, leaving any evidence behind. I feel like this child died right after she went missing and is in that area still.

Podcaster hopes to solve Cayce cold case

After numerous television specials last December on the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey, a frustrated singer-songwriter and podcaster, Brandon Barnett, decided to try to put Cayce’s story back on the national radar.

Barnett, who started a documentary music podcast two years ago called "Left Of Nashville" to chronicle his struggles in the music industry, decided to use his newly discovered broadcasting skills to help bring awareness and possibly help solve the case.

“That would be ideal,” Barnett said. “I hope that it will at least get people talking about Cayce again. And when people start talking, the truth isn’t far behind."

“Searching For Ghosts: The Disappearance Of Cayce Lynn McDaniel will launch the introductory episode on Monday, March 27.

I am curious to know what the investigators think was the motive for the kidnapping, maybe a revenge on the Mother? it doesn't seems like a random crime.

Most abductions of teen girls are sexually motivated. I wouldn't be surprised if her abductor (and likely murderer) was at the church social that day and began to lust after her. It could also have been someone who saw her walking home or someone who lived in her neighborhood.

It was noted that there were no signs of a struggle so there is a possibility that Cayce knew her kidnapper. these cases when a person/ persons just vanished from their home without any signs of struggle and never coming back are really very chilling, everybody knows that horrible thing happened but no one knows exactly what and who is the responsible.

On charly project website there are Police insights regarding Cayce's abduction and even a picture of a suspect .
