The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, a Gatlinburg institution for generations, was among the many structures threatened Monday night by fire.
Bill May, executive director of the beloved school, posted photos on his Facebook page of flames consuming structures at the visual arts center.
He also posted a message about 11 p.m. as he evacuated downtown Gatlinburg where the school long has sat.

OMG. That is being caught in the fire.

I hope they and their dog got out ok.

I dont think I would have kept driving because the tires could get so hot they could blow.

I bet that was their only way off the mountain though so I could understand them trying to make a run for it.

I sure hope they made it out ok.

What is scary too is there were other people up there still when they left.

This is really really really bad.

It is terribly windy there so fires can spread easily from place to place with high winds like they have.

That freaked me out! I was able to find a longer version and they did make it out. WARNING: vulgarity

Michael Luciano narrowly escaped the Gatlinburg wildfire. He uploaded a series of evacuation videos to his Facebook page. With permission for additional distribution, here is the full-length (stitched) version of the video. Chalet Village is documented.

Thank you for this update that they made it out ok. Hearing their dog panting for air had me so worried about them and their dog.

What a nightmare. The billions of dollars lost in homes and goods is bad enough but seeing how it is really life threatening shows us the severity of the situation.

I hate to think of all the pets that had to be left in some of the homes that burned down.

Three deaths
