The trial of Brandon Bowling has been delayed due to a development in the case. Officials found new videos of Bowling allegedly committing the crime.

Bowling was accused of killing Heather Maples in her Murfreesboro apartment two years ago.

Just weeks before trial, the discovery has caused a delay, and we've learned there are now more charges based on shocking new video evidence which brings to mind some elements of the Vanderbilt rape case.

"Through the course of the investigation it became apparent new evidence was found and based on that new charges were added," said District Attorney General Jennings Jones.

Bowling now faces two other counts of rape and sexual battery also against Maples.

Bowling, who was set to be an MTSU senior when he was arrested, is being held on a $1 million bond for the murder of 22-year-old Maples. Circuit Court Judge David Bragg scheduled the trial for Feb. 12, 2018.

A Rutherford County grand jury indicted Bowling in April for first-degree murder and sexual assault of Maples when she was physically helpless, court documents show.

The state plans to seek a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole if Bowling is convicted of first-degree murder, filings show.

Former MTSU student gets 40 years for 22-year-old woman’s murder

A former Middle Tennessee State University student will spend the next 40 years behind bars after pleading guilty to killing a 22-year-old woman inside her Murfreesboro apartment in 2015.

Ahead of his scheduled June 19 trial, Bowling agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder and aggravated rape. All other charges against him surrounding the case were dismissed.

He will serve 40 years at 100 percent for second degree murder and 15 years for aggravated rape. The time will run concurrently, meaning at the same time.

"She is my first thought in the morning when I wake up and my last thought at night before I go to sleep. I know that she is in heaven and I will one day spend eternity with her," her mother, Jennifer Hunter, said in court.

Hunter expressed her condolences to Bowling's mother after the hearing. The two women shared a hug and promises to pray for each other in the hallway outside the courtroom.

"I wanted to be sure that she and I connected, because they are victims, too. They didn't plan this, they had hopes for their child just like we had hopes for ours. I've prayed for them ever since this happened," Hunter said.

"I forgive Brandon Bowling for killing my daughter," she said. "I no longer carry that burden around with me."

B.S. plea deal. They had video of him committing the crime and still let him off easy. Not much of a deterrent for other criminals
