I got invited to leave a bar on Broadway years ago but they called me a cab. I’ll date the story by adding that they called on a landline.

Moo...I who served alcohol for many years in the service industry...disagree with being held responsible. First the drinkers are adults they choose to drink, second until they stand up and start staggering, the server does not see how they are effected. Third server does not know if other drugs are involved. I did get fired from one bar, the patron had fallen asleep with head on table, I refused to wake him to see if he wanted another drink. So my red line is I will not force alcohol consumption on a patron....moo

It’s a sticky issue. I’ve been to Nashville recently and the party has grown a lot since the early 90s. That area kind of challenges hard party animals to max out so maybe being more aware of that will cause them to look out more. They sell shirts that say “there is no town drunk in Nashville, we just take turns”.

<modsnip - off topic>

There is some distance between the last ping, and the Jefferson St. Bridge on that aerial. Does that mean he lost his phone, or maybe it ran out of battery? Would a phone still ping?
I hope to God it's not in the water.
I wish he had a locater on his phone. I can always check where my daughter is with the shared location. Makes me feel better.
I’d forgotten about seeing this earlier, but it may explain the distance. 19 Oldham Street, which is near the Jefferson Street Bridge, is about .64 miles (as the crow flies) from Public Square Park.

RBBM “Verizon Wireless, Riley's service provider, was not able to get a live phone ping due to the phone being off," police wrote in their report. "However, Verizon provided police with the last known location of Riley's phone. [It] last pinged .64 miles southwest of the cell tower located at 19 Oldham Street.”

This is so sad, you guys. Another male/alcohol/water... :(

Praying for Riley and his family.

He was caught on video Friday night at 9:47 p.m, just six minutes before his phone went silent.

He appears to be stumbling as he walked towards the Cumberland River.

I hate where all this is leading to. I didn't want this ending for Riley

“We’ve been told that a couple of his fraternity brothers that were there, was paying their tab and was going to go outside and walk with him,” Dingman [family friend] said. “The bouncers at the door did not want Riley being around the front of the store, so Riley took off walking, sent a message to them that he was possibly going back to the hotel room.”

That video released today shows Strain going in the opposite direction.

Dingman says the Strain appears to be under the influence of something other than alcohol.

“There is a possibility that Riley may have had something slipped in his drink just from his body actions in the way he is moving in him on the videos,” Dingman said. “His texts weren’t normal and punctual like Riley normally is. So we have a firm belief that there may have been something that has happened in that situation at the bar.”

Who knows if there was anything else in his system, but I think it's in some ways easier to believe that, than to believe he got too drunk on his own. Alcohol alone could easily explain what we saw in that video.

This is when the 911 call comes in. Baltz makes the call from the Central Police Precinct, which is about a 15-minute walk from Luke Bryan’s bar on Broadway, but in the opposite direction from the sheriff’s office. Baltz seems to be there with other members of his fraternity.

Moo..if they were bar hopping I can see how he was lost and not know where he was. In the video he just seems to be following random people, unfortunately seems towards the river. When he fell it did look to be a hard fall, poor guy. Any number of situations could of happened after, he could of just found a quiet place to pass out, but with head injury and alcohol that could of ended up deadly, could of been robbed of possessions, could be in the river. But he has not contacted anyone so it really is not looking hopeful for a good ending. ..moo

I agree, seems there may be a cover your butt blame game going on here. IMO.
I agree as well. I just hope they can find him. This has to be torture for his family. :(

If I was younger, and I could, I would make it my business to change one thing on college campuses nationwide. Sororities and Fraternities need to sign a pledge to leave no brother or sister behind to walk alone. It was a Fraternity function this young man was participating in and his brothers were not there for him. This is not to say it is anyone's fault Riley is missing. Riley went the wrong way, fell down and got lost.

O, bless his mother. I weep, too, for Bryce Borca's parents. This same sorrowful situation happened to him in Oct, 2022 in Wisconsin. Beautiful and bright young men on the cusp of discovering their way in life when a preventable accident occurs. Please, let's teach our children and grandchildren, when they're young, not to leave their friends alone when they're stoned drunk.

MOO and a public service announcement

Three more points from this article...

- While his friends paid bill, Riley was escorted out and then told/was encouraged by bouncers to leave front door area. He complied and texted friends he was going to hotel.
- At least one person remembered seeing Riley downtown. Nothing shared in article about what they saw.
- A vigil is being held tomorrow (wed) night.

MOO I'm so very worried for this young man.

MOO I think he was overserved, was extremely intoxicated, got separated from friends accidentally, got lost going to hotel, perhaps got more drunk (could have had a couple of shots/a drink right before being asked to leave and he was worse 15 minutes after leaving bar than he was when he texted) and succumbed to the situation unfortunately.

I hope very much that I'm wrong. MOO

and let's insist of bars and restaurants that if a person is ejected from the establishment, exits for other members of his party happen at the same time so one is not just set out vulnerable. It seems his friends did attempt to leave with him, but he wasn't even allowed to wait outside for his friends. NOW THAT should be actionable.

I would venture to say that as pledges these guys knew the DD RULE and were even DD’s for upper classmen as a rite of pledging. I think they truly got separated trying to pay. (Hopefully that’s it)

The bar is responsible. The bar over-served and kicked him out alone.

What should be stopped is these idiotic formal trips to other states for weekend binges as a fraternity. Imho

It's Tuesday night. He vanished 4 days ago, Friday night.
I'm trying very hard to imagine a situation where he cannot call anyone, that he has amnesia from a head injury caused by the fall, that he is so stressed out having woken up God knows where that he's in a fugue state, or he's stuck somewhere and can't get out......something explainable.
But it's been 4 days....... This kid has got to me.
