Donald Wells, the father of missing child Summer Wells, will serve six months in jail in segregation with no possibility of work release or the ability to reduce his sentence on a jail work crew, according to Sheriff Ronnie Lawson.
...
He was also ordered to attend a DUI class, serve 88 hours of community service, and pay $1,248 in fines and fees.
...
At the time of his DUI arrest Wells was on probation in Hawkins County Sessions Court stemming from a conviction of possession of a handgun while under the influence.
...
The reason for Don Wells’ probation

He was arrested at his home on Oct. 14, 2020, and charged with domestic assault, possession of a handgun while intoxicated and unlawful possession of a weapon after he reportedly came home intoxicated and found a male at home with his wife.
...
In January the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to an alcohol fueled domestic complaint at the residence of Donald and Candus Wells.

No charges were filed and both were referred to the clerk of courts office for private prosecution.
Donald Wells will serve 180 days in segregation with no chance for work release

When you look at the long term involvement both DW and CB have with alcohol and DV the prognosis for a healthy recovery for either of them looks pretty dim IMO. Hopefully Don's stay in jail will encourage Candus to seek help.

I mostly feel sad for the kids and what they've seen in the home. MOO.

But yet here we are months later wondering where this precious baby girl is and we have watched her birth family implode upon itself. Complete and utter destruction of it. Only Mom and possibly Grandmom left on the ground she disappeared from.

Those behaviors were present before she disappeared and so it makes a person wonder about the who, why, what and when that caused her disappearance.

No one is perfect. We all have problems. And but by the grace of God most of us stumble through life without such judgement upon us. But a child is missing and is most likely dead and so it causes some judgement to fall upon those who were responsible for her care and her life and you can't help but wonder.

Edited to add alcoholism is a terrible thing. But when you have children they should come first. It's not about just YOU anymore.

I'm sure that having his freedom taken away is not a trivial event to him. He has admitted that the DUI was a stupid thing to do. Hopefully he will not drive while intoxicated in the future. JMO.

This isnt his first RODEO.
Might be first 'conviction' on record that we have access to.

<modsnip: Hearsay is not allowed>

Good fortune continues to shine on DWs criminal shinannigans.

Wont be his last. IMO.

MOO

IIRC, DW himself said he was a product of, or raised by the system. That seems to be his default; he keeps going back to it. Adulting seems difficult for both parents, and I agree that unless substances are removed from their lives, and a sober living environment is introduced, their chances are slim for any semblance of a productive future, and indefinite incarceration is a strong possibility.

That being said, you never know who will choose to turn their life around. I agree with those of you who have said it is best that they are separated as they seem to fuel each others dysfunctions. It's just sad that their children have endured all this, and of course one of them is missing under unclear circumstances. Tragic.

Wondering if having to stay sober and being in jail may cause him to talk?
Although I think they are toxic together, I do think Don and Candus are very dependent on each other - wondering with him in jail, how will Candus manage? Will she perhaps find the need to talk to someone with Don gone?

Sadly, this did not happen in the Haleigh Cummings case. Similar type dysfunction

I have been following Summer's story from the UK. Granted I do not know as much about the case as others here, but I cannot help but think she was taken by someone. However,if Summer had went willingly with the person, would it not have to be someone she knew? Or, if not someone she knew, then a stranger with a very plausible story? Were there any strange characters in the area that any local people would have noticed? It seemed to be a very rural area and I would have thought she would not wander far. Does anyone here know what Summer's brothers are saying? Have the police spoken with them? Have they spoken with Summer's school/school friends? Children can be very observant and sometimes they have the clues that adults miss. I do hope the little girl is found. I have only seen the area she stayed shown on television and I just find myself saying'where could she go'?

There are plenty of drugs and alcohol in prison, unfortunately. He is going to have to really really want sobriety to achieve it.
I think it’s a very good thing DW and CB-W are apart. I think C will unravel, and *if* she has been withholding info it will come out.

Do we know if anyone is living up on Ben Hill Road with CBW with DW in lock up? If she's up there alone, I'd be worried about her well being. Discounting the obvious mental health issues that are going untreated, there are a lot of household accidents that happen when one is less than sober.

Message from Judge Ross -

'This is the accurate information sent to the Family by Judge Ross :
"He was sentenced to serve 11 month and 29 days.
After serving six months in jail, the court will consider allowing him to enroll in and complete an inpatient or residential program. The jail does not have a program. He must serve six months before he would be allowed out to attend any form of treatment."

DW has a message also -

Dear sweet SW.

Thinking of you everyday and hoping for a good outcome. We don't know where you are, but we are still seeking answers. Online activity may have slowed down, however not our concern for you. Too much negativity that takes focus away from finding you online.

I still pray we get the one tip that will lead us to you.
