"NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Police in Nashville pleaded with the public Tuesday for any information that can help them solve the savage Aug. 10 murder of a 12-year-old girl, reports CBS affiliate WTVF-TV.

"This is a horrible, brutal thing. I've never seen anything this brutal in my entire career," said Sgt. David Kautzman at a press conference.

He said Yhoana Arteaga's family last saw her alive at around 12:30 the day of her death, when she and her mother had lunch. At 5:30 p.m., her mother received a text message from Yhoana, who said there was someone knocking on the door of the home."

"We can't get into detail about any types of relationships right now. For anyone listening that knows Yhoana or the family, if you have any suspicions about anyone related to this family ... a friend or anyone they might have known please give us a call," said Kautzman.

"The MNPD has been told that Yhoana was registered at Liberty Collegiate Academy charter school, but did not attend this week due to injuring her leg while roller skating."

“She was brutally murdered, and if anyone has any information whatsoever that could help in this investigation, please contact us,” Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said.

Aaron said Arteaga's clothes were in disarray and that she incurred massive blunt-force trauma. There was no indication of forced entry into the mobile home

"“We continue to hold the scene. The crime scene tape is still up. An officer is still stationed here,” Aaron said.

Detectives do have persons of interest, but did not name them."

"This department is going to do everything we can, above and beyond, to make sure we find out who did this," Sgt. Kautzman said. The police department is coming together like no case I’ve ever seen in my career."

my first thought was drug debt
but I have no reason to suspect it really
poor girl

There was no indication of forced entry into the mobile home and during a 5:30 p.m. conversation with her mother, Arteaga said someone was knocking on the door. Arteaga had been staying home from school due to a roller-skating injury and Aaron said detectives believe the killer was aware of that, furthering the notion that the killer was known to the 12-year-old.

horrible

This is local to me. My son's best friend lives in the trailer park and I'm shocked they haven't made an arrest yet. Metro hasn't said much but I hope they have a good idea who did this.

There's really been no new info on this but I'm starting to wonder if this could have been another teenager that killed her. Especially with the developments in the Kaitlynn Cargill case. Nothing at this point would shock me

This is just so sad. I'm so sick and tired of this ish! WTF? What is wrong with humans? I just can't even understand anymore. I don't get it.

OMG.This poor girl must have been so scared.

Goodlettsville 12-year-old Yhoana Arteaga strangled to death, autopsy shows

"The results indicate Yhoana's body was found with a number of contusions and abrasions, including around her face and neck.

A sexual assault kit was performed on the 12-year-old, though Metro police said in a statement on Thursday that "it is undetermined whether she was sexually assaulted."

No drugs or alcohol were detected in Yhoana's system."

Mobile homes are usually pretty close together. Hopefully someone saw or heard something. This is so heartbreaking

So sad. What a darling little girl and her poor mom. I hope they catch whoever did this! Senseless and heartbreaking. My prayers and thoughts go out to her loved ones.

The police sound like they were putting out a message to the perp - we are coming for you. Turn yourself in to save us the trouble. I hope my instinct is correct. Praying for justice for this sweet angel.

Sigh... I know in my head that there are more good people than bad, but honestly, one bad person is just one too many. Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!

RIP Yhoana. I will hold out hope that someone is held responsibile for this senseless murder! A young child, that had her whole life ahead. So unfair! And I hope it's not a peer....whoever it will be, it's going to devastate another family, but gosh, I don't want it to be a peer, and another set of parents sending their child away!

I haven't read the entire articles, or looked online for more information, as I can't think right now, so no idea of who might be suspects.

This is so bizarre... I can think of a couple of similar cases (12-15 year old girls murdered in their home.)
They were I believe all to cover up another crime. (Burglary, rape and possibly others.)
This one seems a bit more premeditated than the others I've followed though.
