We were thinking maybe separating the Names Of the Major Players, Minor Players, and Abbreviated Expressions into perhaps three different stickys, with the MP one posted at the beginning of each trial day thread for quick reference.

I lament the death of the beauty of language and the ability to communicate clearly and precisely. The entire planet now abbreviates short words, as if shortening "to" to "2" will stave off carpal tunnel.

They say nothing in cyberspace is ever really lost. I imagine someone 30 years from now looking back and reading "ICA iz a , KWIM?" So many writers and poets are rolling over in their graves that it may affect the rotation of the planet.

I do use the abbreviations on here, but I do know enough about when they are or are not appropriate. All I know is, my dissertation wasn't flunked due to the use of iz and 2, and my book editor hasn't shot me, so I guess I haven't totally given up on the beauty of language altogether. However, this is a forum, so, yes, I use abbreviations here.

I would like WS to be welcoming to both those who do use abbreviations and those who don't. I don't find it a sign of intelligence (or lack thereof), either way, and wouldn't go so far as assume the posts were less valuable because people used abbreviations.
