*Trial set to begin (@ 8:30am ET) - WI - Prince McCree (5) went missing around 1pm on Oct. 25, 2023 & on 10/26/23 found dead in dumpster, the child was found with injuries from blunt force trauma a mile south on the 5500 block of West Vliet Street near Holly Road, Milwaukee. *David E. Pietura (27) arrested (10/26/23), charged (10/30/23) & arraigned (11/17/23) with 1st degree intentional homicide, felony physical abuse of a child, repeated acts causing death, hiding a corpse, as a party to a crime. Plead not guilty. Cash bond $500K.
Trial set to begin with jury selection on 6/3/24.

*Trial continues (Day 14) (@ 8:30am MT) - ID – Daralyn Renée Johnson (9) (missing Feb. 21, 1982, found Feb. 24, 1982, Nampa. Her body, which had been sexually assaulted & beaten, was found in a shallow drainage ditch along the Snake River in Melba by a group of fishermen. Johnson sustained blunt force trauma to the head & torso, but ultimately died from drowning) - *David Allen Dalrymple (24 @ time of crime/62/now 66) charged (5/4/20) & formally charged & re-arraigned (10/27/22) with felony 1st degree murder & felony rape. Plead not guilty. No bond. DA will not seek DP.
Trial began on 5/13/24.

*Trial continues (Day 22) (@ 9am PT) – CA – Blaze Bernstein (19) (Jan. 2, 2018, Lake Forest; found Jan. 9, 2018; he was stabbed 19 times in his neck; 14 times on the left, 5 on the right & 1 stab wound in his left knee) – *Samuel Lincoln Woodward (20/now 26) arrested (1/15/18) & charged (1/17/18) & arraigned (11/9/18) with 1 count of felony murder with a hate crime enhancement for killing someone because of their sexual orientation & sentencing enhancement-personal use of a knife. Plead not guilty (again on 11/9/18). $5M bail, bail revoked (11/9/18). In custody of the Theo Lacy jail.

*Trial continues (Day 22) (@ 9am CET) – Germany/Portugal - Hazel Behan (20 @ time/now 40) (in her home, June 16, 2004, Praia de Rocha on the Algarve coast, 10 miles from Praia de Luz, Portimao, Portugal) - *Christian Stefan Brückner (Bruekner) (27 @ time of 1st crime (2004)/45/now 47) charged (Oct. 11, 2022) with sexual assault (suspect held a knife & brutally raped her. The accused then tied & gagged the woman to a table & raped her again. He then whipped the victim on the back with a whip he had brought with him & finally forcibly performed oral sex with the victim. The accused filmed large parts of the events with a video camera he had brought with him). Braunschweig Regional District Court
Germany/Portugal – *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 - a 14 year old teenager (unknown victim) (on tape: assaulted/hit the naked girl with a whip. Said to have brutally forced the girl to have oral sex. The accused also videotaped this act). Took place between Dec. 28, 2000 to April 8, 2006 on the Praia da Luz, Algarve coast, Portugal.
Germany/Portugal - *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 - an elderly woman 70-80 yrs old (unknown victim) a Tour Rep (tied up & raped the victim in her holiday apt. He then hit the victim several times with a whip. The accused is said to have recorded the entire event with a video camera). Took place around the same time (between Dec. 28, 2000 to April 8, 2006) on the Praia de Luz, Algarve coast, Portugal.
Germany/Portugal – *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 - 10 year old German girl (Joana E.) (wearing only shoes & otherwise naked. He grabbed the child's wrist & began to perform masturbation movements on his naked penis). On Salema (Zalema) beach, near Praia de Luz, Portugal, April 7, 2007).
Germany/Portugal – *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 – Ines VP (11 year old Portuguese girl) (pulled down his trousers & underpants & made masturbation movements on his naked penis in order to sexually arouse himself, until the frightened girl ran to her father for help. The suspect was arrested on the spot by the Portuguese police). Exposed himself in playpark, São Bartolomeu de Messines, June 11, 2017).
Trial began on February 16, 2024. (And continued on Feb. 23rd, Mar. 1st & 14th, Apr. 2nd, 10th, 12th, 17th, 19th, 24th & 26th, May 2nd, 15th, 16th, 17th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 28th).
Next Trial dates: June 5, 6, 25, 26, July 5, August 5, 15, 16, Sept. 5, 26, 27, Oct. 2, 7, 8, 21 & Oct. 22, 2024. (Expected to last up to 8 months, it was 3 months).

*Sentencing Hearing (@ 9:30am CT) – IL – Andrew “AJ” Freund, Jr. (5) (reported missing April 17, 2018, Crystal Lake; found buried in shallow grave on April 24, 2019, near Woodstock) – *Carlos J. Acosta (54/now 57) arrested, charged & indicted (9/10/20) & arraigned (9/24/20) with 2 felony counts of endangering the life of a child & 1 felony count of reckless conduct. $20K bond (bonded out 9/10/20). Plead not guilty. Balance due: $2K bond.
Bench Trial began on 9/11/23. Continued on 9/12, 9/13, 9/14, 9/15 & 9/18/23. Prosecutors rested their case on 9/14/23. Defense began their case on 9/15/23 & ended on 9/15/23 without calling any witnesses. Closing arguments on 10/13/23.

*JoAnn D. Cunningham (35/38 when sentenced/now 41) – 12/5/19: Plead guilty. Sentenced on 7/17/20 to 35 years in prison. Post conviction petition hearing on 6/1/22. Post conviction petition denied/dismissed.
*Andrew T. Freund, Sr. (60/63 when sentenced/now 66) – 9/18/20: Plead guilty. Sentenced on 9/18/20 to 30 years in prison. Will help prosecutors with case against welfare workers. On Jan. 21, the ARDC announced Andrew T. Freund, licensed as an attorney since 1984, had been disbarred after being convicted last year of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated battery of a child & concealment of a homicidal death.


Friday, June 7th:
*Sentencing Hearing (Day 1 of 2) (@ 10am PT) – British Columbia, Canada – M. S. (13) (last seen alive on July 18, 2017 at a local Tim Hortons, Burney B.C. & her body was found 5 hours later on July 19, 2017 in Burnaby’s Central Park, Vancouver) - *Ibrahim Ali (27 @ time of crime/28/now 33) arrested & charged (9/7/18) & indicted (11/25/19) with 1st degree murder. Plead not guilty. Held without bail. Vancouver Supreme Court
Police used a new & somewhat controversial “DNA dragnet” technique, after collecting DNA at the crime scene that indicated a suspect of Middle Eastern descent. (He is a Syrian refugee who entered Canada 3 months before murder).
Trial began on 3/17/23 with jury selection & ended on 3/23/23.
Trial began on 4/11/23. Crown rested their case on 11/17/23. Defense began on 11/20/23 & rested their case.
B.C. Supreme Court Justice Lance Bernard presiding. Crown prosecutor Isobel Keeley & Daniel Porte & defense attorney Ben Lynskey & Kevin McCullough.
Jury deliberated for 2 days (12/7 & 12/8/23) for ~ 4 hours. Verdict: Guilty of 1st degree murder. Sentencing hearings on 6/7 & 6/10/24.

4/16/24 update: Hearing held. Defense lawyer Kevin Mccollough for Ali, who was convicted of first-degree murder of a 13-year-old girl in Burnaby, B.C., says the man wants to appear at his sentencing hearing by video over fear for his safety. McCollough told a B.C. Supreme Court judge that Ali's attendance in person poses "real safety issues" & he's prepared to file additional affidavits to support the defence position. Prosecutor Isobel Keeley said the Crown is opposed to Ali attending his sentencing remotely & the Criminal Code indicates such an appearance should be in person unless the defence & Crown agree on an alternative with the court's approval. The judge told the defence lawyer to stop speaking, saying the court would deal with the matter of Ali’s sentencing appearance at a later date. Hearing set on 4/19/24 to set to confirm sentencing date.
4/19/24 Update: At a hearing in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver Friday, the court set aside two days for his sentencing: 6/7/24 & 6/10/24. But the hearing is expected to take only one day, according to Justice Lance Bernard. The Crown had intended to set dates as early as the end of April, but the sentencing had to be pushed back because of interpreter availability. Bernard said he would make a ruling on the issue of Ali attending in person or remote/video before the sentencing hearing. Ali now faces a mandatory life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.

State's Offer letter received & filed. Jury instructions received & filed. Plea hearing. Defendant Pietura in court, in custody. Attorney Russell J. A. Jones in court for Pietura. Attorneys Matthew James Torbenson & Mallory Davis in court for State of Wisconsin. State compliant with victim notification. As to County 1: Defendant changes his plea to GUILTY. Defendant examined as to his plea, advised of his Constitutional rights & the maximum penalty. Defendant advised that if not a U.S. Citizen, that a plea of guilty or no contest to the crime you are charged may result in deportation, exclusion from admission to this country, or the denial of naturalization under federal law is possible. Court found that defendant knowingly, voluntarily & intelligently waived his rights. Guilty Plea Questionnaire/Waiver of Rights & Addendum received & filed. Parties stipulate to the complaint as a factual basis to sustain defendant's plea. Court found defendant guilty & ordered a Judgment of Conviction be entered on the record. Court advised Defendant as a convicted felon he may never possess a firearm/weapon, body armor, explosives & he may not vote until his civil rights are restored. Defendant remanded pending sentencing. Defense requests a pre-sentence investigation with recommendation. As to Counts 2 & 3: Pursuant to negotiations & on motion of the State, Court ordered Counts 2 & 3 dismissed & read-in for purposes of sentencing. Sentencing hearing scheduled on 7/26/24 @ 2pm. 3/21/24: Notice-request for extended media coverage. Hearing before sentencing on 6/6/24 @ 9:30am.
6/6/24 Update: Judge George Strickland sentenced Acosta to six months in the McHenry County Jail, along with 30 months probation, 200 hours of community service & a contribution to the McHenry County Children's Advocacy Center of $1,000. In court Thursday, the state called an investigator from the office of inspector general to the stand who questioned Acosta after AJ's death. She said Acosta at the time was wearing an earring with a middle finger on it & she also revealed his work cell phone password spelled out the word "Apathy." Before receiving his sentence in court, a victim impact from A.J.'s grandmother was read by the prosecutor on behalf of family. Acosta also took a few minutes to ask for leniency from the court, sharing how A.J.'s death has impacted him. "I do accept responsibility for my role in this tragedy," Acosta said. "All I can ask for today is leniency from the court, the opportunity for redemption from my community & forgiveness from my God." Before his sentencing Acosta apologized in a statement. "I am not the lazy, uncaring, monster that Patrick has portrayed me to be," Acosta said. "I am a social worker." Sheriff's officers took Acosta immediately into custody, walking him out of out of the courtroom in handcuffs & not allowing him to kiss his wife on the way out. Some supporters say the state is making Acosta a scapegoat for the system.

Friday, June 7th:
*Plea Agreement Hearing (@ am CT) - IN – Amiah Robertson (8 mos.) (March 9, 2019 last seen @ babysitter’s (Jeanette Browning) on So. Holmes Ave, reported missing 3/16/19 by mother, Amber Robertson, but it was later learned the baby had been missing for one week, not found) - *Amber Robertson (19 @ time of crime/23/now 24), “mother” arrested & indicted (9/9/22) & charged (9/16/22) with 1 count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious injury but results in bodily injury (F3), 1 count of neglect of a dependent results in bodily harm (F5), 1 count of neglect of a dependent the abandonment or cruel confinement deprived a dependent (F5) & 1 count of neglect of a dependent def. places dependent in situation that endangers the dependent (F5). $200K Bond. Bond reduced (10/7/22) to $60K. Bond reduced (12/29/22) to $40K (10% cash ($4K must be posted). Denied bond from 10% cash to Surety on 7/10/23. Denied reduction in bond (4/29/24). If bonded out: probation with home detention & GPS.
Jury Selection was set to begin on 6/21/24 & Trial was set to begin on 6/24/24 but both vacated as Robertson took a plea deal & plead guilty.

6/4/24 Update: Robertson plead guilty in connection to the death of her 8-month-old daughter Amiah. According to court documents Robertson has plead guilty to neglect of a dependent, a level 5 felony. In exchange for pleading guilty to that charge, the State will dismiss the following charges that were initially filed against Robertson: Neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 3 felony; Neglect of a dependent, a level 5 felony & Neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony. The court accepted the plea deal, which carries a maximum sentencing range of up to 6 years in prison. Docket update: Plea Agreement filed by Robertson on 6/3/24. The plea deal also stipulated that Robertson must comply with a no-contact order with ex-boyfriend Robert Lyons, who was also charged in connection to the case. The deal also outlines mandatory requirements that Robertson must remain in the Marion County Jail until her sentencing later this month & undergo mental health evaluations as approved by probation. Robertson is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, 6/7/24 for a hearing relating to the plea agreement.

Police used a new & somewhat controversial “DNA dragnet” technique, after collecting DNA at the crime scene that indicated a suspect of Middle Eastern descent. (He is a Syrian refugee who entered Canada 3 months before murder).
Trial began on 3/17/23 with jury selection & ended on 3/23/23.

4/19/24 Update: At a hearing in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver Friday, the court set aside two days for his sentencing: 6/7/24 & 6/10/24. But the hearing is expected to take only one day, according to Justice Lance Bernard. The Crown had intended to set dates as early as the end of April, but the sentencing had to be pushed back because of interpreter availability. Bernard said he would make a ruling on the issue of Ali attending in person or remote/video before the sentencing hearing. Ali now faces a mandatory life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.
6/7/24 Update: Sentencing Day 1: After the victim impact statements by the girl's father & brother & remarks from Ali, Justice Lance Bernard delivered his sentence. "Mr. Ali, you have been found guilty of first-degree murder & you have heard the profound harm & grief you have caused for raping & murdering 13-year-old (name redacted) in Central Park on 7/18/17," he said. "For this horrific & most grave crime I hereby sentence you to imprisonment in a penitentiary for life without eligibility for parole for 25 years." With one day of credit for each day spent in pretrial custody since his arrest in September 2018, Ali won't be eligible for parole until 2043. He will remain on the national sex offender registry for life & must provide a DNA sample. He will also be banned from possessing any weapons for 10 years after his release. No need for Day 2 of sentencing.

Germany/Portugal – *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 - a 14 year old teenager (unknown victim) (on tape: assaulted/hit the naked girl with a whip. Said to have brutally forced the girl to have oral sex. The accused also videotaped this act). Took place between Dec. 28, 2000 to April 8, 2006 on the Praia da Luz, Algarve coast, Portugal.
Germany/Portugal - *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 - an elderly woman 70-80 yrs old (unknown victim) a Tour Rep (tied up & raped the victim in her holiday apt. He then hit the victim several times with a whip. The accused is said to have recorded the entire event with a video camera). Took place around the same time (between Dec. 28, 2000 to April 8, 2006) on the Praia de Luz, Algarve coast, Portugal.
Germany/Portugal – *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 - 10 year old German girl (Joana E.) (wearing only shoes & otherwise naked. He grabbed the child's wrist & began to perform masturbation movements on his naked penis). On Salema (Zalema) beach, near Praia de Luz, Portugal, April 7, 2007).
Germany/Portugal – *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 – Ines VP (11 year old Portuguese girl) (pulled down his trousers & underpants & made masturbation movements on his naked penis in order to sexually arouse himself, until the frightened girl ran to her father for help. *The legal team defending Brueckner is attempting to have a key piece of evidence thrown out of court, arguing that investigators broke international law in obtaining it. German police were handed Brueckner's hard-drive by an unnamed female witness in Portugal containing sickening cartoons allegedly penned by Brueckner. Now his defense team is demanding that the Regional Court of Braunschweig does not officially admit the hard-drive as evidence.

5/31/24 Update: Sentencing hearing: Standing in the prisoner’s box nine days after a jury found Dallas Ly guilty of the second-degree murder of his mother, 46-year-old Tien Ly, the convicted killer apologized & thanked those friends who had stood by him over the past two years.
*Before Justice Brian O’Marra recessed court, reserving his decision on a period of parole ineligibility, Dallas’s lawyer Jessyca Greenwood asked the judge if her client could have a moment to speak with his aunt, grandmother & friends now that the no-communication order was ending. The judge agreed to the request before Dallas turned and looked towards the body of the court.
*A victim impact statement was read out by the Crown prosecutor on behalf of Huyen Ly, Tien’s sister.
*The jury convicted Dallas of second-degree murder after just a day of deliberations, rejecting the defence argument that he was provoked. A second-degree murder conviction is an automatic life sentence but the judge must decide on a period of parole ineligibility between 10 & 25 years. Crown attorney Jay Spare argued that 15 years would be appropriate given the victim was Dallas’s mother who was brutally killed in her own home by multiple stab wounds. Dallas’s lawyer Jessyca Greenwood argued a more appropriate period of parole ineligibility would be between 10 & 12 years. Judge O’Marra will deliver his sentence on the question of parole ineligibility on 6/26/24.

6/21/24 Friday, Trial Day 14: Closing arguments by assistant DA Linda Ford & defense attorney Sam Roberts. Udge April A. Newbauer gave jury instructions to include an EED (extreme emotional defense). Jury deliberations will begin on Monday, 6/24/24.
6/24/24 Update: Jury Deliberations: Jurors in Manhattan Supreme Court took just three hours to find Haspil guilty on all charges that he’d faced for tasing Saleh to incapacitate him, then stabbing him to death inside Saleh’s $2.4 million seventh-floor condo on East Houston Street. Sentencing hearing on 9/10/24 @ 9am.

*Trial set to begin-CONTINUED! (Sanders case) (@ 1pm CT) – IN (under Javon Blackwell) - *Maurtreyviaum “Troy” Sanders (19) (Nov. 6, 2018, Marion) - *Demetrius Jemere Jackson (25/now 30) charged (1/29/19) with murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery & armed robbery in connection with a death. Plead not guilty. Held without bond.
Blackwell murder found guilty sentenced to 120 years in prison. Earliest release date 1/21/2154.
Sanders’ Trial was set to begin on 6/17/24 & was continued on 10/28/24.

6/17/24 Update: Order of Trial Continuance by Court. Jury Trial originally scheduled on 6/17/24 was rescheduled to 10/28/24 at 1pm. Reason: Court's Own Motion. Next pretrial conference hearing scheduled for 10/3/24 at 8am & trial will now begin on 10/28/24 @ 1pm.

Wednesday, June 26th:
*Trial continues (Day 29)-VERDICT REACHED! (@ 8:30am MT) - ID – Daralyn Renée Johnson (9) (missing Feb. 21, 1982, found Feb. 24, 1982, Nampa. Her body, which had been sexually assaulted & beaten, was found in a shallow drainage ditch along the Snake River in Melba by a group of fishermen. Johnson sustained blunt force trauma to the head & torso, but ultimately died from drowning) - *David Allen Dalrymple (24 @ time of crime/62/now 66) charged (5/4/20) & formally charged & re-arraigned (10/27/22) with felony 1st degree murder & felony rape. Plead not guilty. No bond. DA will not seek DP.
Trial began on 5/13/24 & ended 6/26/24 with a guilty verdict of all charges. Sentencing hearing on 9/6/24.

*Sentencing Hearing (@ am ET) - Canada – Thanh “Tien” Ly (46) (found Mar. 28, 2022 on a sidewalk in the area of Eastern & Berkshire avenues, west of Leslie Street, around 1:30pm in a garbage bag dismembered; ID'd on Mar. 31, 2022, Toronto) - *Dallas Ly (20/now 22) son arrested & charged (4/2/22) & arraigned (4/3/22) with 2nd degree murder. Plead not guilty. Remanded to custody (4/3/22).
Trial began on 4/29/24. Crown rested their case on 5/7/24. Defense started on 5/8/24 & rested on 5/14/24. Closing argument start on Thursday, 5/16/24 & Jury deliberations ended on Tuesday, 5/22/24. Sentencing on 6/26/24.

6/26/24 Update: Sentencing hearing: Jury found Dallas Ly guilty of the second-degree murder of his mother. Ly has been sentenced to life in prison with a period of parole ineligibility of 13 years. The judge in the case also issued a DNA order & a life-time weapons ban for Dallas, while recommending he receives a psychiatric assessment & referral to psychiatric programs while in prison. A second-degree murder conviction is an automatic life sentence, but the judge must decide on a period of parole ineligibility between 10 & 25 years.

(@ 9am MT) - CO - Bethany Maclaren (70) wife & Ruth Jennifer Maclaren (35) daughter found after 911 call by Maclaren in living room with substantial injuries & no signs of life, Mar. 25, 2023 Englewood. *Reginald Livingstone Maclaren (81/now 83) arrested (3/25/23) & charged (4/3/23) & arraigned (1/23/24) with 2 counts of 1st degree murder willful/family/ weapon, tampering with evidence & false reporter. Held without bond. Bond set (7/19/23) at $2M Cash or Surety. Confessed to detectives. Plead not guilty.
Trial began on 6/21/24 with jury selection & ended on 6/24/24). Trial began on 6/25/24 & ended on 6/28/24 with a guilty verdict.

6/28/24 Friday, Trial Day 4: Maclaren was found guilty of 1st degree murder, tampering with a deceased body & false reporting in the 2023 deaths of his wife & daughter in Arapahoe County District Court on Friday. His sentencing is set for 7/10/24.
