City Assisted Evacuation assists Orleans Parish residents and tourists who cannot self-evacuate during a mandatory City-wide evacuation by providing transportation from designated City evacuation pick-up points to a central transportation and medical triage facility for outbound evacuation to State or Federal shelters.

City Assisted Evacuation provides transportation from designated City evacuation pick-up points to a central facility for outbound evacuation to State or Federal shelters. Please Note: City-Assisted Evacuation is not a guarantee of service. Barring medical mobility issues, you are responsible for getting yourself and your family to one of the 17 designated City Pick-Up Points for evacuation out of the City.

Hurricane Central@twc_hurricaneLatest NHC advisory indicates that there was a wind gust to 70 mph at Smith Shoal Light near Key West. #Isaac

Is the city going to provide the buses? There really is very little time left, and I fail to see the desire to blame these people, because the storm that supposedly was going to Fl might be going their way instead.

The city provided buses for Katrina, but people refused to leave~! If they don't want to leave then I am sorry, it is there own dang fault what happens to them!

Why should emergency personal put their lives in danger, because a few stupid people (no offense!) refuse to get out and get to safety? New Orleans had 3-4 days to prepare. They knew a hurricane was brewing, they just didn't know where it was gonna hit until 2 days prior. They knew when it was going to hit, so at that time they should have got the hell out of dodge! If that had of been me, I would have gotten out at the 3-4 days mark. Always better to be safe then sorry!
You would've left New Orleans when all by all indications the storm was going to Florida? Well, if you have the funds and the free time to do that, then more power to you.

This is an extremely sensitive subject for me, too. I did leave, and it looks like we'll be leaving again. But I could list 10 excellent reasons why some did not, will not and cannot just pick up and go.

I recall Katrina was predicted to land very close to NOLA for 3 days prior...there was a high level alert at that time. The cone did stretch to panhandle of FL however two days before Katrina hit, that cone shortened. That is what I recall. I follow every hurricane being I grew up in florida

So people should not take the warnings TWO DAYS in advance? People should stay put? Is that what your saying?? They have TWO days to prepare. Its a natural disaster. You cannot get notice 30 days ahead when it comes to a natural disaster! You deal with what you got, and that Unfortunately is 2 days notice this time!

Even if it was supposedly to hit Florida, people down in the Gulf know that they are in hurricane prone areas, And as soon as a hurricane forms, or even a tropical storm, they should start to make preparations on what they are going to do. Come on this is not rocket science!

People need to take responsibility for their well being! If they don't have vehicles then get to one of the places where you know buses will be to evacuate. If people don't have any way to get there, then WALK, or call a taxi, or ask a neighbor! There are options USE them!

New Orleans had 3 days and they knew it was going to hit NOLA. I am saying that I would have evacuated within those 3 days! It was not like NOLA did not have warnings. They knew that it was heading straight for NOLA 3 days prior.

That's not what I am saying at all. What I am saying is that there are people who aren't able to evacuate for various reasons and yet you insist on blaming them. And are you seriously suggesting people without cars should walk? How far do you think they are going to get? It's ludicrous.
This time are they even going to provide buses?
And why aren't there shelter in place?

We are talking about ISAAC. They were predicting it to hit FL, but now it shifted and might be going to LA.

Jim Cantore is heading to New Orleans for #Isaac coverage

Uh oh. Anywhere Jim is at, you know it's probabaly going to get hammered.

Stay safe everyone. That's the one thing I don't miss about the south.

There are no shelters in place because the hurricane is going to hit the city? Where should shelters be put??? I think it is rather silly to want shelters open in NOLA, when the hurricane is going to directly impact them

I have stated above in my posts that they are using buses. I have even provided links to support this. They provided buses when Katrina hit too, people just refused to believe that the hurricane was going to hit NOLA. There are 17 pick up points where people can go to be picked up by buses and transported out to safety

Right but if you are anywhere on the Gulf, you should already have emergency preparations just in case a hurricane is to hit you. You need to have plans made AHEAD of time. An evacuation plan, an emergency plan.

As of Thursday night, Katrina was still headed up to Florida. Around noon Friday, the predictions moved it closer to NOLA. It wasn't until the 10 pm news Friday night that most citizens realized the impending danger, and the mayor didn't put the emergency plan into action until Saturday morning.

11180 without power in Miami dace county
5180 without in broward

Per weather channel

right now as of NOW NOLA has 2 days and close to a 3 day warning to evacuate.

Like I stated, if you want to get out of the high traffic due to evacuations, now is the time to leave if you live in the high threat area.
