Police: Infant, toddler kidnapped by mother in Missouri seen in Amarillo

Oh. My. Gosh. A baby born with syphilis?? How does that even happen? Nevermind, I probably don't really want to know. And a protective order against dad for abusing one of the children?? I hope LE is all over this situation and resolution is quick and punishment severe. Moo

What Pregnant Women Can Do About Syphilis | Syphilis | CDC

“Syphilis can also be passed on to an unborn baby during pregnancy.

Congenital syphilis is the disease that occurs when a mother with syphilis passes the infection on to her baby during pregnancy.

How Congenital Syphilis Can Affect Your Baby’s Health
Babies born to women with untreated syphilis may be stillborn (a baby born dead) or die from the infection as a newborn. Infants born with congenital syphilis might have health problems like skin rashes, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice), enlarged liver and spleen, or severe anemia (low blood count). Untreated babies that survive the newborn period can develop problems later on. They may be developmentally delayed or have seizures.”

Much more info at link. Basically baby Arabella needs immediate treatment to prevent death or life-long health issues.

I hope they drop the kids off at a hospital or fire station.

I wonder when and how the syphillis diagnosis was made. I imagine if she was diagnosed at birth she'd be treated by now. If mom has syphillis too, which she almost undoubtedly does (unless just she was treated), she's at risk for mental symptoms and needs immediate treatment as well.
