definitely something either she had sketched or someone very very close to her. not the same tattoo artist, that's for sure. someone will identify her though, i just have a gut feeling.

They are poorly done tattoos for sure but they do have Marine Corps meaning along with the words. Semper Fi tattoo for service and Fedeli Certa Merces for an Honorable discharge. I would think the tattoos are a personal rendition of a unit fighter patch and the cracks probably represent something personal. The two eyes could possibly mean evil eyes which is another Marine Corps aviation term.

Okay. sorry for all the posts in a row

That above link has heraldry for all the armed forces it seems. There are hundreds and hundreds of groups to look through. Medical groups, expeditionary forces groups, intelligence groups, etc. Possibly thousands. There are search features as well.
I have to stop for tonight but I hope someone starts looking through that site.

I found two, I didn't look through them all, tattoos with eye and the cross like extensions. It was just a tattoo site for eye tattoos. imo
Those little lines might be a passion flower vine with the faded red being the flowers.

Could it be just that those particular Latin phrases resonate with her? And are not affiliated with military in any way?

Being that they both refer to faithfulness, maybe something she considers to be of importance?

They certainly aren't professionally done and the designs are exactly the same and look somewhat juvenile, an earlier poster mentioned high school doodling and I feel this may have some significance.

* I suggest this as I have two Latin phrases inked on my inner feet, I don't speak Latin but the phrases resonate with me*

I *think* the tattoos may be a crudely done rendering of a cross and evil eye. If you Google image "cross and eye" you will come up with various jewelry, shirts, decorations and tattoos that are somewhat similar. The cross with the eye is supposedly "evil eye" protection. Can someone check it out and see what they think? TIA

Something similar to this example:

I cant find anything on the tattoos.. looks almost like a star not a cross and i thought it was veins not lighting bolts.the other looks as tho its waiting to be finished as its similiar to the coloured one.

Lightening??? I was thinking veins or blood. Isn't there a gang called Blood?

This is the closet so far that I have come to a military unit crest with an eye, but this one happens to be Army, not Marines...
Unit crest photo at link.

"1st Military Intelligence Battalion (Aerial Exploitation)
"The Flying Eye Battalion" "

Adding a unit crest from the Marines, but it is still not the same look as that of the tattoos....

"Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron-163 [HMM-163]"

Evil Eyes Squadron

Just wondering if she could be a marine?

I found this on Yahoo answers:

"I was going through my Fathers Military Papers after he passed away a few months ago.

I noticed on his discharge papers. There is the Eagle and the Anchor Insignia. Above this is written: 'Semper Fidelis'.

Below is written: 'Fideli Certa Merces' (may also be 'Gerta Merges')."

I agree. Also, if she were in any branch of military wouldnt her fingerprints be on file?

LE would have to contact the DOD to obtain a possible match. The tattoos are too specific for her not to be a marine veteran. Crappy homemade ones but they held personal meaning to her and I believe she probably had them done after she left the Marine Corps.

A four pointed star is also know as the natal star in Christianity. So maybe it is for her Father. The eye is also a Christian symbol. I have one in the middle of my sacred heart chest piece. It is for protection. Just my take on them.

I don't think the tattoo's specificity necessarily means that she had to be a Marine (if it is indeed from a unit patch). She would just have know that particular design, and she could know that if it belonged to, say, her husband or her father.

If we consider that she is a former/current Marine, it's also worth considering that the Marines have the smallest percentage of women (about 6%, or 13,000) of all the armed forces. Doesn't mean she wasn't one, of course.
