Have been thinking of you - glad to see you pop up! It's great to see Cheryl and Andy's case getting lots of attention. Fingers crossed for good news!1990 cold case: Who killed Cheryl Henry and Andy Atkinson on Lovers Lane in west Houston?
Cheryl was raped and her throat was slit in 1990. Andy was tied to a tree and nearly decapitated. It's a cold case that has haunted two families for decades.www.khou.com
I just listened to "True Crime, All The Time, Unsolved" 13 November podcast. They mention this course of action so I suppose I had forgotten about it. This is back in 2017, 6 years ago. And to date nothing has come of it that we know of.

Exactly! What is happening with the DNA?I continue to be shocked, and saddened that this case has not yet been resolved. What is happening on the DNA front?
The suspect is described only as a white male in his mid 30s, 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has brown hair, a possible mustache and was wearing a dark shirt and pants similar to a work uniform. The victims, Cheryl Lynn Henry, 22 and Garland Andrew (Andy) Atkinson, 21, were found in a wooded area near Enclave Parkway. Both suffered stab wounds to the throat and died at the scene. Autopsy results confirmed Ms. Henry had been sexually assaulted. On the night of August 22, 1990, Ms. Henry and her sister met Mr. Atkinson at Bayou Mama's nightclub on Westheimer at South Gessner. Neither Henry nor Atkinson was seen the next day, so a missing person’s report was filed with the HPD. Later that day, the two were found by a security guard conducting random patrols. Atkinson was found tied to and sitting next to a tree, about 100 yards away from Ms. Henry. Utilizing the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), investigators were able to match DNA at the Enclave Parkway scene with DNA from a sexual assault at 7826 Terra Cotta on June 20, 1990, investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect's actions in the Terra Cotta attack and what is known from Enclave Parkway are similar and considered crucial to the ultimate identification of the suspect. In the Terra Cotta incident, the victim was robbed and sexually assaulted, but in Enclave Parkway neither victim was robbed. Anyone with information on either attack or related incidents is urged to contact Officer Michael Miller of the HPD Homicide Division Cold Case Squad at 713-308-3600. VHS/JFC Inc #088453990'' |
Welcome to Ws @spencerc6, thanks for sharing your memory of Andy, hoping answers will be found soon!I was friends with Andy. He was living in Fayetteville, NC at the time, I was in the army at Fort Bragg. I was a DJ at a popular nightclub, so we met in that setting. Last time we spoke was the night before he was making that trip to Houston. We had a hometown bond, both being from Houston and living away in NC. So that night, we hugged, I told him have a safe trip. A few days later, I hear/read/find out he had been murdered while in Houston. He was a great guy.
