In August, 1990, Cheryl Henry and Andy Atkinson were brutally murdered in a secluded lover's lane area in Houston, TX. Cheryl was also raped. A bizarre crime scene, a taunting letter mailed to a newspaper,DNA from the killer, and a composite sketch from a rape that occurred 2 months before the murders, all combine to make for a puzzling and still unsolved case. Listen to Criminology true crime podcast episode 63 available on June 1st, 2019

It's seriously time for some movement on this case. Has anyone from the family contacted Othram? They are local to Houston in The Woodlands and even though I know HPD has to contact them they might have some local pull. Or not, maybe just wishful hoping.

Composite Sketch In 1990 Murder Case Released
composite sketch of a suspect
May 19, 2008
- Houston police homicide investigators have released a composite sketch of a suspect wanted in the murders of a man and a woman found in a wooded area near Enclave Parkway in August 1990.
The suspect is described only as a white male in his mid 30s, 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has brown hair, a possible mustache and was wearing a dark shirt and pants similar to a work uniform.
The victims, Cheryl Lynn Henry, 22 and Garland Andrew (Andy) Atkinson, 21, were found in a wooded area near Enclave Parkway. Both suffered stab wounds to the throat and died at the scene. Autopsy results confirmed Ms. Henry had been sexually assaulted.
On the night of August 22, 1990, Ms. Henry and her sister met Mr. Atkinson at Bayou Mama's nightclub on Westheimer at South Gessner. Neither Henry nor Atkinson was seen the next day, so a missing person’s report was filed with the HPD. Later that day, the two were found by a security guard conducting random patrols. Atkinson was found tied to and sitting next to a tree, about 100 yards away from Ms. Henry.

Utilizing the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), investigators were able to match DNA at the Enclave Parkway scene with DNA from a sexual assault at 7826 Terra Cotta on June 20, 1990, investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect's actions in the Terra Cotta attack and what is known from Enclave Parkway are similar and considered crucial to the ultimate identification of the suspect. In the Terra Cotta incident, the victim was robbed and sexually assaulted, but in Enclave Parkway neither victim was robbed.
Anyone with information on either attack or related incidents is urged to contact Officer Michael Miller of the HPD Homicide Division Cold Case Squad at 713-308-3600.

I live in Houston, and the same age as Andy and Cheryl and hung out at the same spots back in the day. This could have been anyone of me and my friends back in 1990. What in tarnation is going on with the DNA in this case? It's been like 6 years.

How has this case not been solved yet? How has the DNA not been submitted to CeCe Moore. I am confident that she could solve this is a matter of days. The youtube interview with Andy's dad, Garland Atkinson is heartbreaking and eye opening. He has a theory on who was responsible and the original lead investigator agrees. Researching this case there a lot of things that do not add up.

I was friends with Andy. He was living in Fayetteville, NC at the time, I was in the army at Fort Bragg. I was a DJ at a popular nightclub, so we met in that setting. Last time we spoke was the night before he was making that trip to Houston. We had a hometown bond, both being from Houston and living away in NC. So that night, we hugged, I told him have a safe trip. A few days later, I hear/read/find out he had been murdered while in Houston. He was a great guy.

Welcome to Ws @spencerc6, thanks for sharing your memory of Andy, hoping answers will be found soon!
