According to authorities, Smith gave permission for her baby to leave the hospital with a family member three days after he was born. The individual who left with the baby is Brittany’s cousin, Brandy Yovonne Galbert, stated police.

An investigation was conducted by Child Protective Services who received a court order to remove the child from Smith’s care, added officials.

Police stated that Smith, Galbert, and the baby’s father, Carl Dennis Haden, have not been located but police believe they may be in the Austin or Killeen area.

Hey PM, was this PC today, Aug. 9? It says JUL at top of post ;)

Honestly, this would be unbelievable...

How these @$$40!3$! thought they could get away with this, and now mom's gone and racked up probably more charges, is beyond me.

Those poor kids. These people have no business having anything to do with kids. I hope LE's breathing down their necks soon, and getting little mr. peanut somewhere safe.

MISSING: Austin Police looking for 3-week-old baby taken against court order

According to court records, Brittany Smith has a long history with police. In 2013, Palm Elementary School officials called 911 to report Smith's children were being abused. James Baker is their grandfather.

"I went and picked them up one day and one had a three-inch scar from his hairline all the way to his chin," Baker --who is not related to Baby Elijah-- recalls. He says the four boys his son has with Smith were scared of their mother and lived with Baker for two years until their father could care for them.

"The boys told me that she would hit them with anything that she got her hands on," Baker says.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit from 2013, in forensic interviews the children said Smith beat them with belts, hangers and shoes. In 2014, Smith pleaded guilty to the abuse and was sentenced to 50 days in jail. Court records also show Smith has been in and out of jail in several counties for arrests including DWI, assault and theft.
