As though Coe could suffer one scintilla of what Emma has suffered - what a . :furious: WHO CARES WHAT HE IS GOING TO SUFFER?? Did he care how he made Emma suffer? I think not. :banghead: What is wrong with these lawyers? Have they no morals themselves to even say such things??? What if this were their child?

Even the prison gang is not going to give him what he deserves.....they don't want his STD anymore than Emma did.....Abbey didn't seem to mind though :waitasec:

TY Paintr-are we sure??? YES....guess the jury thought he was a serial offender.

Oooops! I apologize. I was interrupted while posting and didn't manage to add the link.

What gives with the $10,000 fine? AY got the same. As though $20,000 is gonna bring Emma back??? I do not understand. Where is that fine going to be paid to? I could come up with a great memorial headstone for our wonderful girl with that money.....

Update from Ann at the Courthouse:

the penalty phase began this morning at 9:30. The defense gave their closing argument, which lasted 3, maybe 5, minutes.

The prosecution then gave their closing argument.... And I'm told it was fabulous. They detailed all of Coe's past criminal history.

At 9:50, the Judge turned the case back over to the jury for deliberations.

prosecutors this morning asked jurors to sentence Coe to life in prison and a $10,000 fine for raping his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter shortly before she died.

“and if we could give him more, we would,” assistant Harris County District Attorney Colleen Barnett said. “life’s not even good enough for what he’s done.”

For me this trial has been bittersweet - I feel that AY is equally guilty as Coe's accomplice, we have the lies to LE, CPS, doctors and family.

Paying Coe's fine to keep him out of jail - means she was aware of his history and leaving her baby home with Coe to babysit, knowing he had lost custody of his own kids is unbelievable!

The trips in and out of the house the day Emma died - prove her to be an unfit parent (and human) - purchasing & using super glue - then cleaning the scene with bleach to destroy evidence, while waiting until Emma had passed away to leave the house - speaks to premeditation.

Every scrap of evidence used to convict Coe should have been used to convict AY!

I agree with you. It is a blot on our society that people like AY continue to get so little time for such heinous, unspeakable crimes. Until we have zero tolerance for people who harm kids, and especially mothers who not only allow, but also even encourage their new man to use their children in any way they see fit, we will continue to hear such awful things and mourn such lovely children. That woman should have been given at least as much time as the beast she sacrificed her baby to.

Defense attorney William Van Buren opened his closing arguments, which lasted less than five minutes, with 60 seconds of silence to illustrate how slowly time can drag.

“There are 13,140,000 of those minutes in a 25-year sentence. He will suffer.” Van Buren said. “That’s flat time. There is no parole. He will duly suffer.”

Time may have dragged for Coe for that minute. But someone should remind the defense attorny that Coe was sitting there...well fed, well dressed and in no physical distress. Now compare that to one of Emma's minutes....in terrible pain, being raped, being beaten.

Who cares if time seems long for Coe? For Emma, those pain filled minutes lasted the rest of her life.

You know Van Buren has said and done a few things in this trial that make me say hmmm....

Did he really think the jury who had found Coe guilty of Super Aggravated Rape, gives a hoot about how many minutes there are in the 25 years he will spend locked up? I question if van Buren's conscious got the best of him a few times!

Can we give him 10 times twenty-five years, please!?!

I am as happy as I can be with the knowledge that a precious child is gone forever and had to live a short life in such a terrible way with such a terrible end.

I hate feeling so grateful when I shouldnt even have to know this man's name. I am thankful to see this man behind bars yet the rest of the family who loved emma will never, ever be released from their pain - hopefully at least this sentence will help ease the pain a little bit.

yet LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE. I am SO GRATEFUL for this jury! exactly what AY should have also gotten and may her conscience destroy her.

Does anyone know who has custody of Emma's sisters?

I am so proud of this jury! I would imagine if there were any hold outs for a guilty os super aggravated assault holdouts, that the young man who testified and Coe's brother in law, sealed his fate!

My hope now is that monster will be retried for accessory to murder or something along those lines! God bless Emmas family!

our local TV news here in Houston just reported, Coe winked at Emma's father as he was on the stand making his victim impact statement!
(IMHO: Coe is one evil/sick m-f)

RIP sweet Emma knowing that Texas did its best to prosecute those that harmed you.
snipped:

After the verdict was announced, the girl’s father, Ben Thompson, said in a victim impact statement that Coe was a “bogeyman.”
“You’re going to pay a long and horrible price for what you did to my daughter,” Thompson said.

Coe still faces assault charges in Montgomery County for his treatment of the boy.
(FYI: Emma's home is in Harris County but near the Montgomery County line)

Both sides said the most powerful testimony in the 1½-week trial was from the 10-year-old son of one of Coe’s former girlfriends. The boy said Wednesday that Coe repeatedly snuck into his room at night to beat and choke him in 2006. He said Coe told him he would kill his mother if he told anyone the truth. “What happened to Chase is eerily similar to what happened to Emma,” Barnett said. “There was vomiting, unexplained bruises, dizziness and falling down.”

Does anyone know who has custody of Emma's sisters?

Last I heard, they are still in the custody of the Thompson's, but at AY's trial, Ben told AY - that not only had J (7 yrs) lost Emma, she also lost L (12 years) and a DA had earlier said, "The fathers" have a right to have custody. So they may have made the switch.

Ben had visitation with all three girls, after the separation.

I think you should get out of my head, fwiw-I thought the same thing. A 5 minute close?

It would restore my faith in humanity if he blinked.

Here's the thing-long after everyone has forgotten Lucas Coe's name, Ben and the girls will be enjoying a long free life with green grass and blue sky.

Abby and Coe will have their memories of the same and a raging case of herpes...a teen I once knew stated it was the gift that keeps on giving.

By the time the two girls hit the age of majority, they can decide if they ever want to lay eyes on their biomom ever again. Anyone want to lay a fiver down on that one? ;)

I was so elated to hear this news today while I was at work!

Regarding custody of Emma's two sisters, IIRC, one of the girls is a full sister (Ben's daughter) and the other is a half sister (from either a previous marriage of AY's or a previous relationship). I thought that at first the Thompsons had custody of both of them, but recall reading that the older girl's father expressed a desire to have full custody of her eventually. Not sure what the status is now.

Such a shame that so many were hurt by this case ... and, only a few short months prior, the three girls' world consisted of a mommy and daddy who lived together with them in a comfortable home. In a matter of a few months, they were being exposed on a routine basis to a monster. It hurts to even think about this.

For now, I'll focus on the court "victory." To have this beast off the streets and to know that at least he won't have access to other children is such a blessing.

I'm hoping that this case gets national coverage and the public (future jurors) use this sentence as a guide and template for deciding the sentences of other habitual offenders. That would be awesome!

Glad for the justice served. Wordlessly sad for Emma and her family. I will never understand how anyone could do this. But he will never touch another child again. Thank god for that.

Lucas Coe gets Life without parole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::dance: :dance: :dance: :dance::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I've been in and out all day but have not had time to check here to see if the sentence was handed down.

Thank you Lord! Thank you Jury!

And may his time drag on and on and on and on and on and on and on and be painful!

Okay, so maybe this is really why the DA went for Super Aggravated Sexual Assault instead of murder:

"Unlike a life sentence for murder, which generally is capped at 60 years with eligibility for parole at 30 years, the maximum for super aggravated sexual assault of a child is actual life. Prosecutors opted to try Coe on that charge rather than murder in hopes of getting a stricter sentence."

He can't get out - no getting out in 30 years when he would be 58 years old - still young enough to commit harm to others. He has to stay there! He can't get out.

Okay, okay - I could say that over and over again. I am very pleased that he does not have a chance in Hades of getting out!!!!

Lady Justice has spoken ...
"leave our precious children alone, do not use them in your perverted pleasures! There are consequences for your actions!"

(consequences both here on earth and hereafter)
