I'm very disappointed in the final decision on the charge but as someone pointed out above it's better than nothing. Now I'd like to see her spend at least a full fifteen years behind bars. I'm hoping 20 with no possibility of parole but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

"Ketterman (AY's atty) said she plans to remind jurors that Ben Thompson suspected Young was dating Coe when he met with investigators from Texas Child Protective Services before Emma’s death on June 27, 2009. However, she said, he did not broach the subject with the investigator."

Dating is not the same as shacking up with someone, even part time or allowing this "date" access to your children and to be spending time alone with the minor children. EVER.

This attempt to spread the blame to others who were not in the house, is typical when defending a guilty party. Because there is no defense of a woman who allows her baby to be violated and lying to everyone she came in contact with, who could have saved lil Emma, screams of guilt to me.

Emma had a form of herpes that is "very rarely" not sexually transmitted. For this to be the case the infected person has to have a very poor immune system. Emma looked amazingly healthy in her photos - Since her pediatrician is the one who sent the report to CPS - I'm guessing s/he had ruled this out before making that report. Doctors have enough problems without creating more for themselves, by making false accusations of child abuse.

CPS, as they often do called ahead to "warn" Young they would be coming by - allowing her time to make sure Coe was out of the house and to "remind" the children that mommy didn't have any boyfriends and to coach Emma - Abby put on her "professional" facade - "I'm a nurse you know!" - showed the case worker into her nice, clean home and IIRC - didn't they even sit down and have a cup`pa coffee as they "chatted" probably about how tough it is to be a conscientious, single mom who puts her kids needs ahead of her own.

Abby taking Emma to doctors, but denying the boyfriend - says she knew what was what - but she was hoping the doctors would back up her stories.

The ER doctor who examined Emma at CPS's request - found no evidence of sexual abuse at the time of the exam, other than the oral and vaginal herpes. Vaginal tissue is very pliable. The normal appearance allows for scarring and bruises to hide and because it is so vascular, it heals relatively fast. It is also extremely difficult to do a thorough exam on a very young child - if there is no obvious tearing or bruising (that day) most likely they did a very cursory exam so as not to cause trauma to Emma. These are the reason child sexual abuse is so very difficult to prosecute.

Coaching by her abusers is likely behind Emma not telling the doctors what happened to her. Beyond Coe "holds me tight" But in-spite of the doctors not finding sexual abuse on examination, I believe Abby conspired to cover up the truth of Emma's injuries - including dismissing a neighbor who told Abby that Emma's panties had blood in them a day before Emma was murdered. And the use of super glue - yes it is a treatment used by surgeons, but I'll bet even they don't use it on a wound at home.

Ya know, believe, I really, really, really want to know how much AY knew before 6/27/9. And I wonder exactly how long the relationship with Coe had been going on if she and BT only separated two months previous.

IWK - I read elsewhere AY and Coe had been friends for a long time and the prosecutor claims they started dating in 2008, also that AY told Ben he should not comment on anyone they maybe dating to investigators because it could complicate their divorce. Yeah, like maybe she would have lost custody of all her kids. (I didn't realize they had only been separated for 2 months.)

Young’s attorney, Colin Amann, said his client is innocent. “From all I have seen she loved Emma as much as any parent could love any child. It’s just a violation of the natural order of things when kids precede their parents,” said Amann.

I'm guessing you have never seen true love and devotion a mother has for a child. And No! Mr Amann; it is a tragedy when any child precedes their parents, but it is a crime and against the natural order of things when a woman who has birthed a child, lets a man violate and use her child in an unnatural way.:sick:

07-08-10 At the defense table, Young began dabbing at her eyes with tissue as prosecutor Colleen Barnett introduced dozens of autopsy photographs into evidence -

Finding Abigail Young guilty of injury to a child by recklessness, resulting in serious bodily injury, in the death of Emma Thompson last summer.

07-12-10 Young burst into tears this afternoon as the verdict was read.

These would be tears of joy correct?
After all she missed out on a felony - 99 years!

May they still put AY away for 20 years. (I'm so afraid they won't).

And may AY live with the knowledge that Emma died knowing the truth-

I am sad that the jury didn't have a better understanding of the B&^V% who allowed Emma to be tortured and murdered.

If they give her a stiff 20, I would be reasonably satisfied. She should get life, but given the way the mothers always seem to catch a break, I'm just praying for the 20. If she gets some ridiculous sentence, I'm going to flip out. Surely the judge can see what she is by now? She should be in jail, at a minimum, until she can no longer bear children.

Yep, that sounds like a concerned parent....what happened to the report that Coe called her to come home because Emma was ill and he met her on the sidewalk with Emma in his arms, AY wisked her into the backseat of the car and drove down the block.....two very conflicting pictures emerging. So, in fact she came home, made dinner, glued Emma's scalp back together, cleaned the bathroom with bleach, then loaded Emma in the car so she could die in the backseat two blocks from the house???? And I'm supposed to believe she was OK before she was loaded into the car and just passed away during that two block drive?? Who else here thinks Emma was dead when AY got home?? Besides me? Hands? How can that be simple reckless endangerment if she is a registered nurse? Shouldn't she, of all people, recognize the severity of the situation?? While I am grateful the jury found her guilty, I'm perplexed that they did not find the aggravated charge to be true....

Did anyone else notice the comments stating they were glad the trial got moved to Houston, 'cause "money talks in Brenham"??

They have got to give this woman the full 20 years. Anything less would be a sacrilege. Is it totally the decision of the jury or can the judge override? I hope he realizes the number of people closely watching this case.
