Additional questions: Did he take his wallet? Has there been any activity on his financial accounts? What is leading officials to assert he left "willfully"? If he didn't take his keys, does that mean he physically took off on foot? And, as mentioned above, why such a huge discrepancy between his family and his wife regarding depression issues?

“Let us be very clear, the reports of why Craig has been depressed and did not report to Korea is not coming from a reliable source.
Snipped by me.

In this quote I note the parents aren't saying he wasn't depressed just that the reason for his depression may differ from what they think is the cause.

Missing Fort Cavazos soldier last seen leaving Killeen home on May 15

Additional info here:

"Cameron said the past few months on post were hard on her husband, and that contributed to a change in his mental health.

“When I met him, he was a carefree, loving, laid back person. He didn’t have a mean bone in his body,” Cameron said, “He had no hate in his heart. He was a happy man. And (Fort Cavazos) and his leadership completely destroyed him.”

I think it's the oddness with the parents saying the information isn't coming from a reliable source when the only source I can find talking about his potential depression...is his wife.

Missing 'poster' I mentioned earlier

ETA: I just noticed this particular missing poster does state he had/has 'extreme' depression, but I'm uncertain of the original source.

ETA: It states to contact the CID office or his spouse, so IMO, the primary source was likely his wife.

ETA: Additional (curious) info at this same link. I'll leave it for others to pick out the hinky parts.

Also from the article:

Fort Cavazos leadership is requesting the public’s help in finding a missing soldier, post officials announced Friday. The soldier, Spc. Craig Chamberlain, never reported to Korea, according to Lt. Col. Tania Donovan, a public affairs officer for III Corps.
“Spc. Chamberlain was on orders to execute a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) to the Republic of Korea in December 2022,” Donovan said in an email to the Herald Friday.

So what's he been doing since December?

Curious: when a soldier goes AWOL, is it common that they continue getting paid past perhaps a week or two? Theorizing that in most marriages the disappearance of a paycheck would be pretty noticeable, as well as termination of benefits postal mail, etc … also, has the wife said anywhere in MSM what she thought was happening, given that they vacated their home to go to Korea and then … didn’t go to Korea? … and three days before she thought it was a problem that this severely depressed man was missing? … I can empathize with the parents that there is strangeness in this story (wonder if time will tell that the parents felt his dislike of the military was egged on by the wife). Also, is there a picture or video of the wife in MSM anywhere?

I haven't seen any pics of the wife in MSM, but if you click Craig's FB page listed above, you can find her easily.

Nice to "see" you, @caradana.

You can also find another FB account for his spouse by searching the name used in the article (last name Mann rather than Chamberlain). My suspicions were confirmed there. I am very concerned for Craig.

And why would his spouse believe he was going into work (at Fort Cavazos) everyday when he was supposed to be in Korea?

As usual with initial reporting, that article leaves as many questions as provides answers. It appears his wife waited several days before reporting him missing, which is a giant red flag in any missing persons case.

@cardana - I don't know the answers to your questions about continuing pay when AWOL, but it does seem like yet another huge red flag that no one in the Army was looking for him.

Poor Craig. I hope he is able to see his parents' messages.

TRANSCRIPTION OF PARENT'S INTERVIEW

MAY 22ND.

DAD
- I'm Gordan Chamberlain, this is Virginia Chamberlain. We're the parents of Specialist Craig Chamberlain. First off, we'd like to thank the Army CID for the continued man hours and hard work they're putting in to find our son.

MOM - Our son has been missing since Monday, May 15th., 2023. The CID has been working hard on his case. As well, we have been reaching out with friends and numerous people that might have seen or heard something. Let us be very clear; the reports of why Craig has been depressed and did not report to Korea is not coming from a reliable source. That person has been hindering the case with inconsistencies and different stories, refusing help that was offered in the search of our son. Why? we do not know. However, we do want answers to this. There are other underlying factors that contribute to the situation at hand that needs to be looked into, before further being discussed. We ask, that if anyone sees something, hears something, knows something, please bring it to the proper authorities or to us.

DAD - Craig 'If you're out there and watching this; we love you, you know you have a huge support system here at home. Nothing in this world could ever make us stop loving you. We've had friends, family, church family and neighbours praying constantly for your safe return. Come home. Let your mother and I stand beside you. Let us stand beside you and face whatever's to come; it is not something you need to do alone.'

We want to thank everyone that has reached out to us with prayers, love, food, etc. - thank you. We serve almighty God and our faith is with him. As always with our family, all thoughts and prayers are welcome. Please help us bring our son home.

Am I the only person who, even after a fight, would become seriously concerned if my spouse didn't return home THAT night? Especially since if he/she had no cell phone.

No you are not the only one. And the parents' statements in the above post are setting off the ol' hinky meter.

I'm very confused about him being posted to Korea in December and not going. How does that work in the Army?

I think he would be reported AWOL but I don't necessarily think that means Army is going to come beat the bushes looking for him. I could be wrong, I know not much about that kind of stuff with Army. (an Arrested Development reference to call it "Army" that I'm sure nobody else will get) JMO
