Hailey's Mom: Child *advertiser censored* Not Found in Home

Reported by: Snyder Daily News Sunday, March 06 2011

220x165.jpg

While the focus in Colorado City and Mitchell County this past week may have been more on recovering from the wildfires that destroyed several homes, the search for missing 13-year-old Hailey Dunn resumed Friday and Saturday.

Soldiers from Fort Hood joined the search teams that were trained by KlaasKids and Laura Recovery Center, two organizations formed by family members and friends of missing teenagers.

Billie Jean Dunn said Friday afternoon she remains thankful for the group’s continued search efforts.

“I’m on my way taking water to the groups right now,” she said from her cell phone.

Dunn said she was relieved to hear that the memory stick retrieved from her home did not contain any child *advertiser censored*.

The Latest On The Search For Hailey Dunn 05/16/11

<snip>
City officials tell us even though there's not much new information being released the criminal investigation is still very active.

Two officers have been assigned to handle only her case. It's being worked by City Police and the Sheriff's office. But with just one named suspect in the case and no arrests, is there any progress being made?

The Colorado City Manager tells me the case is strong. So far only Shawn Adkins, Hailey's mother's boyfriend, is the only name of interest.

"We've left an officer on it and we're gonna continue to leave them on it for the indefinite future," said Kampfer.

"We're waiting for more information related to Mr. Adkins and finding Hailey. They want to build a better case to really make sure it's a slam dunk for prosecution," said Kampfer.

A few months ago investigators say child *advertiser censored* was found on a flash drive in connection to Shawn Adkins. The City Manager says the investigation into that case also continues, and will be presented to a grand jury once completed.

Hailey Dunn Anniversary Falls Near National Missing Children's Day

<snip>

Friday will be exactly five months since Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn was last seen alive and five months of searching has turned up no clues in her disappearance.

The City Manager of Colorado City, Pete Kampfer, meets with the police chief weekly to talk about the investigation, but volunteers are scaling back their search for the missing girl.

Daily searches for Hailey Dunn slowly decreased to twice a week and now five months into the search only five volunteers make it out once a week.

Child *advertiser censored* investigation continues
Images discovered during police search in missing teen case

<snip>

More than three months ago, law enforcement officials reported finding nearly 109,000 images depicting deviant acts and child *advertiser censored* while investigating the disappearance of Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn.

To date, no arrests have been made and no indictments issued, but officials say the case has not gone stagnant.

Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs said representatives from the agencies involved in the case — his deputies, Colorado City police, the Texas Rangers, the FBI and the district attorneys for Howard County, Scurry County and the 32nd Judicial District — meet weekly to discuss the case.

Since the discovery of the materials, law enforcement officials have maintained that the child *advertiser censored* investigation is being treated as a separate and distinct crime, but Toombs acknowledged that the two cases are intertwined.

"This is not a simple child *advertiser censored* case," Toombs said. "This investigation is currently stretched over three counties and involves multiple agencies. And many of the people working on the case are also working on the disappearance case."

Toombs said one reason no arrests have been made is the sheer volume of material that has to be analyzed.

Toombs said he hopes both cases — Hailey's disappearance and the *advertiser censored* case — will be resolved soon.

"I believe the work we're doing will lead to an arrest, and a conviction, but I'm not sure if we're a week away, a month away, or a year away.

Dunn missed on last day of school
Students end year without classmate

<snip>

The joy of the last day of school in Colorado City was tinged with sadness Friday as teachers and students noted the absence of Hailey Dunn, who was reported missing Dec. 28.

Hailey, an eighth-grader at Colorado Middle School, likely would have been among the students newly inducted into the Honor Society who traveled to Abilene for a class outing last week, one of her teachers said.

Upstairs on the third floor, a recently hung collage is covered with photos of Hailey, smiling with friends. Nearby is a poem written by a student titled "Trying to Find You."

Hailey Dunn: Searches for missing Colorado City teen dwindling
<snip>

What began as a furious search with hundreds of volunteers in the weeks after Hailey Dunn was reported missing Dec. 28 now has dwindled to weekly quests with only a handful of dedicated volunteers.

The volunteer searchers have reported finding several items that have been turned over to investigators.

"Whenever we think this is the end, a psychic will contact us and tell us where to look," Lloyd said. "And we almost always find something."

But so far, volunteers have searched thousands of square miles and no significant evidence has been reported found.

"If anyone has a group of five or more, we can meet any day of the week for a search," Lloyd said.

Five months later, still no sign of missing teen Hailey Dunn
<snip>

After 5 months and no sign of Hailey Dunn, investigators insist they're not giving up.

Hailey's grandmother, Connie Jones, says the family is torn apart as each day passes by without answers.

"A lot of people say it's a cold case and it's no longer investigated," Toombs continued. "That's not true."

Toombs says Colorado City Police and the Mitchell County Sheriff's Department are still assisted by the FBI and Texas Rangers. He added that the criminal district attorney's office for Howard County, Mitchell County, and Scurry County were also assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Jones is scared to leave her house. According to her, she's the only family member who hasn't changed her phone number since Hailey's disappearance.

"We're going to make sure we have a good case with a lot of evidence that we'll have at our disposal to convict someone," he said.

Investigators Still Awaiting Results from Evidence Seized in Hailey Dunn

Law enforcement says it's waiting on results from evidence before taking the next step in the investigation into the disappearance of missing Colorado City 13-year-old Hailey Dunn. Dunn vanished from her home on December 27, 2010.

"Basically we are waiting on evidence which was taken up at Dunn to come back from the Dallas computer lab," Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs told the Colorado City Record.

Law enforcement took computer equipment from a Dunn residence earlier this year. Items seized were shipped to the Dallas FBI lab for testing.

The Dunn residence was where the only named suspect in the case, Shawn Adkins, had been staying. Adkins is the boyfriend of Hailey's mother, Billie Dunn. The two broke up shortly after Hailey disappeared. In an interview with KRBC's Brittany Pelletz in May, Billie said she still loved Adkins.

Billie Dunn pleaded no contest Wednesday to a charge of making a false report to authorities and was initially sentenced to 90 days in jail. However, the sentence was probated to one year as part of a plea agreement.

Other charges against her – lying to police, hindering an investigation and drug-related charges – were dropped as part of the agreement.

New Colorado City police chief hired

<snip>

"The intent all along was to hire a new chief. It's just kind of hard changing quarterbacks in the fourth quarter," he said, referring the search for Hailey.

Kampfer said Owens would reopen parts of the Dunn investigation.

"We're hoping he can re-energize that case," he said.
