At some point between the encounter between Criner and MyCue and after Criner left, MyCue testifies that a custodial person went into the room. Defense asked if they could have taken items (specifically the hammer) from the room. Witness says it is possible.

Adela Uchida‏ @adelauchida 3m3 minutes ago
Mycue has testified to the ID in front of the jury. Now the defense is asking if custodians went in there. The answer is yes. On redirect, the prosecutor asks him to ID the squatter in the courtroom. He IDs Meechaiel Criner, wearing a green suit.

Adela Uchida‏ @adelauchida 9m9 minutes ago
Robert England takes the stand. He was a project manager at UT for a custodial contractor in April 2016.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 5m5 minutes ago
The prosecution has now brought a custodial contractor to testify. I believe his name is Robert/Scott England. He is testifying about what he did on the day the storage room was found with all of the objects I previously mentioned.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 5m5 minutes ago
Thomas Weiser, Haruka Weiser's father has also recently entered the courtroom.

Ryan Autullo‏ @AutulloAAS 12m12 minutes ago
Thomas Weiser, father of Haruka, has entered the courtroom. He testified yesterday and stayed in the courtroom to see the testimony of his daughter's friends. This is the first we've seen him today.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 9m9 minutes ago
England is testifying about items that are in the storage room that belongs to his company, which include the trash can, cleaning bottles, paper towels. He says the hammer in the room does NOT belong to his company.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 6m6 minutes ago
England also says he did not use the nylon straps and ropes found in the room either. England said he entered the storage room after being contacted by MyCue. He removed the trash can out of the room and left, while Criner was still in the room taking his things out.

Adela Uchida‏ @adelauchida 6m6 minutes ago
He’s testifying about the storage room where Criner May have squatter. Says a number of items in the room the day Criner was kicked out of storage room were take from the custodial company

Ryan Autullo‏ @AutulloAAS 8m8 minutes ago
England is now the second UT employee to say he encountered a man in the storage room on March 30, 2016. This interaction came after the earlier witness, MyCue, told the man to leave.

Alyssa Goard‏ @AlyssaMGoard 13m13 minutes ago
When England went into that room, he found a young, slender black man who spoke with “slurred ish” speech who was in the room cleaning out the possessions in there

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 3m3 minutes ago
England said he went back a little later after he left the room and came back to the room. The person he previously saw in the room was not there when he came back. He says when he came back, the shopping cart wasn't in the room. But he doesn't know what else wasn't in there.

Alyssa Goard‏ @AlyssaMGoard 8m8 minutes ago
England left the storage room with the man still in there, then went back after to try and find the man who had been inside. When he returned the room was still cluttered but the man was gone

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 8m8 minutes ago
Clarification: At some point between the encounter between MyCue and the person he says was Criner, MyCue testified that a custodial person went into the room.

After coming back to the room, England said he went to go find the person from the room, encountered a person with a shopping cart, and talked with him. England then testifies that he doesn't recall telling police that the person told them their name was "Mick Criner."

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 2m2 minutes ago
England testifies that he had someone retrieve the items that belonged to his company. But he doesn't know what happened to the other items that were still in his room but did not belong to his company.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 52s53 seconds ago
I want to clarify that the prosecution asked MyCue to recall the testimony that a police officer said he gave. He could not recall the specifics of that testimony.

Alyssa Goard‏ @AlyssaMGoard 6m6 minutes ago
England testified that he next got on a golf cart and went looking for the man. He found the man pushing the shopping cart that had been inside the storage room. The cart was full of stuff

Alyssa Goard‏ @AlyssaMGoard 5m5 minutes ago
England talked to the man but couldn’t remember his name or whether he was wearing glasses. Said the man was polite and didn’t give him any trouble

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 10m10 minutes ago
Now we're hearing from Jamie Holcomb, the Senior Facilities Security Specialist at University Federal Credit Union. He is testifying about accessing security video from an ATM.

Adela Uchida‏ @adelauchida 13m13 minutes ago
England excused from the stand. Jamie Holcomb called to testify, he is head of security for university credit union. I am going to follow along as long as I can but I will ha e to step out soon to begin putting together reports for @cbsaustin at 5 and 6.

Adela Uchida‏ @adelauchida 11m11 minutes ago
Holcomb retrieved video from an ATM that Detective Tynes wanted to see. Holcomb says the date and time on the video were wrong, forward in time, so they had to estimate.

Adela Uchida‏ @adelauchida 5m5 minutes ago
We are looking at that surveillance video. It is black and white, grainy, cars going by. Then paused as a young woman is walking by, holding a pizza box.Paused again — a man with a backpack walks by, then paused again as he comes back.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 3m3 minutes ago
This grainy video from the ATM shows a female walking down the sidewalk (with what Holcomb says appears to be a pizza box) and a male with a backpack walking down the sidewalk in the same direction as the female and walking later down the sidewalk in the opposite direction.

Ryan Autullo‏ @AutulloAAS 4m4 minutes ago
We're now seeing surveillance video from an ATM at the corner of San Jacinto and 21st. The quality is pretty terrible. We see a man walk by and then return from the opposite direction. Difficult to say the man is Criner.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 2m2 minutes ago
Holcomb says he can't identify anyone in the video because of the quality of the video. This is not surprising. The people in the video had no distinguishing features whatsoever. All you could tell was the backpack.

Adela Uchida‏ @adelauchida 2m2 minutes ago
Defense asks about quality of video, which has since been upgraded. Holcomb admits it was bad quality. Holcomb excused. A UTPD officer takes the stand.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 37s38 seconds ago
The next witness is William Pieper, a UT Police officer assigned with investigating the incident that happened in the storage room.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 13m13 minutes ago
Prosecution wants to ask Pieper about the incident England told to him. But since England couldn't remember the incident today, the judge says Pieper's testimony is hearsay. Because of the ruling, the witness is dismissed without being asked any questions. Now we're in recess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan Autullo‏ @AutulloAAS 5m5 minutes ago
Following a short break, we are ready to go again. Courtroom has been set up with a large monitor, suggesting we might be seeing surveillance video. Hopefully it's clearer than the low-quality video we saw before the break.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 11m11 minutes ago
We're done with recess. David Begier is now testifying. He is a Journey Security Technician at the University of Texas Data Center. We're about to be shown some surveillance video/

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 2m2 minutes ago
Begier is describing different surveillance videos of the suspect. He says the suspect was wearing a bright orange bandana, a jacket with patches on the shoulders, and had a red girls' bike.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 3m3 minutes ago
We're now being shown a video of a loading dock by the College of Liberal Arts on UT Austin's campus. Video starts at 9:20PM on April 3 2016. After UT Police officers showed Begier this video, he was asked by UT Police officers to look for the person show in the video.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 10m10 minutes ago
The video shows a person getting off a red bike, looking into a parked white van for a minute and walking away, biking away and biking back twice, and then leaving the bike and heading in the same direction as an individual walking towards the Waller Creek pathway.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 10m10 minutes ago
The person originally gets on the bike and circles around the driveway, but gets off as someone walks by him and then walks in the same direction as them. He looks to be reaching in his pocket as he does this, says Begier. This all happens from 9:30 to 9:38PM on April 2018.

We're being shown surveillance video which shows a scene incredibly similar to one in the previous ATM video at 9:28PM. Same girl from that video walking by with a pizza box? and the male suspect from the CLA video walking behind her and then turning around, according to Begier.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 14m14 minutes ago
The male suspect is walking in the same direction as the female until she crosses 21st street. He then turns around and begins to walk back up San Jacinto. This video is all happening at the intersection of 21st St and San Jac. Here's a picture of the intersection and the ATM.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 13m13 minutes ago
This is not part of the video, to be clear. It is just for reference for anyone who is unfamiliar with UT Austin. The sighting of the suspect after this video occurs again on the CLA video which occurs around 9:30PM.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 11m11 minutes ago
Begier says after the suspect begins to pursue the individual down the pathway toward waller creek, he is not spotted again on video until 11:20PM. Prosecutors are showing the bike, which the suspect got off from to walk down the path, has not moved in between these times.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 4m4 minutes ago
Video around 11:25PM shows what Beiger says is the same person walking across this intersection with the bike starting around the point I've marked. Beiger said the suspect, who originally had glasses, no longer has them. He also said he has another blue bag with him.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 13m13 minutes ago
Again, I want to clarify that this is an edited screenshot from Google Maps and not part of the video in any manner. I am doing the best I can to describe and illustrate the actions in the video without actually recording the video (which I am not allowed to do).

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 11m11 minutes ago
Beiger said he has seen the suspect over 100 times on video. He said he has spent over 650 hours looking at these various surveillance videos.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 29m29 minutes ago
Beiger is clarifying that he can not tell who the person in the video is. Earlier he was asked if he could identify the person in the video in the court room. He said he could not do this.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 11m11 minutes ago
Unless I just misheard him, Beiger just said there are cameras at the alumni center facing Waller Creek. He said was unable to get footage from these cameras and they would have helped with the timeline of the events on April 3. Beiger was then dismissed from the stand.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 9m9 minutes ago
The next witness is David Krolczyk, who works with Beiger. He was the one who reviewed all of the video footage of April 3, 2016 with Beiger. He says he also reviewed the footage for around 650 hours.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 9m9 minutes ago
Krolczyk now says there are no cameras which have footage covering the creek, seemingly contradicting Beiger's previous testimony.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 9m9 minutes ago
Other than the contradiction mentioned previously, Krolczyk is given incredibly similar testimony to Beiger. Hardly any new information, if any at all.

Megan Menchaca‏ @meganmenchaca13 7m7 minutes ago
Krolczyk finished his testimony. Trial will start tomorrow at 8:30PM, 30 minutes before the time the trial has normally been starting. Tomorrow's testimony will include testimony from at least six detectives and people familiar with the crime scene.

Ryan Autullo‏ @AutulloAAS 7m7 minutes ago
We are done for the day and in recess until 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. Early start time so jury can get home earlier to start the weekend.

THREAD: Today is the end to the first week of the trial for Meechaiel Criner, charged with capital murder in connect to the death of Haruka Weiser. After today, prosecutors will have exactly one more week to prove their case before the jury deliberates.

The testimony that Tynes was expected to give today is currently being called into question, because when he searched the abandoned building where police said Criner was found and found multiple "incriminating" items, he did not have a warrant. We'll see if he'll testify today.

The trial of Meechaiel Criner ended Thursday after witness testimony about surveillance footage. UT technicians showed this video near Waller Creek. At 9:38, a man wearing a motorcycle jacket & orange bandana gets off a red bike and follows a person in all black. @SpecNewsATX

We’re getting started at 8:30, a half hour earlier than normal. Earlier start to the day means earlier start to the weekend for jury.

Ryan Autullo‏ @AutulloAAS 24m24 minutes ago
Judge Wahlberg said he’ll throw the lawyers in jail if they don’t wrap this up by next Friday. He might have been joking? With late nights and few delays so far, it would appear the train is running on time.

Ryan Autullo‏ @AutulloAAS 4m4 minutes ago
Judge Wahlberg said he woke up last night with questions about the seizure of items by investigators at the abandoned building where Criner might have been living. The search may have been unlawful, Wahlberg said. Decision will be made later before detective testifies.

Ryan Autullo‏ @AutulloAAS 3m3 minutes ago
The detective who took those items stuck his hand through a door window to unlock the door. That could be problematic.

Ryan Autullo‏ @AutulloAAS 2m2 minutes ago
We now will hear from the firefighter who responded to a call at the abandoned building on the Medical Arts Complex and found Criner burning items.
