Unable to confirm a tentative identification: Leroy Walls from Louisiana. According to the decedent's friends, he was mentally disabled and came to Houston many years ago with a group visiting the Houston zoo."

Maybe they do this now but back when I worked in Houston they did not share info about UIDs between hospitals. This guy happened to end up at Memorial Hermann, but might have been well-known at the county hospitals or mental health centers. I knew most of our frequent flyer ER mental health patients in the Memorial Hermann system but if an unidentified county patient showed up I would have no clue. If they don't already, they should really put up posters that ER, admitting, psych, and case management staff can easily see. You know that this guy had contact with some kind of healthcare along the way because he was around for "many years." Sorry for the rant - it's just so sad and frustrating.

Decedent was found on a train platform at 6103 Fanning Street in Houston, Texas. He had a black and grey moustache and beard; teeth were in poor condition. Decedent went by the name of "Leroy Walls" and may have been homeless at the time of his death. Decedent was possibly born in Louisana by midwives and came to the Houston area approximately 20 years ago. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences Office is unable to confirm any of this information including his name. Fingerprint information is available at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Poor man. I wonder if he was living at a facility at some point and how he came to be "homeless." I wonder if he has living relatives he once had a close relationship with and if so, what they think happened to him.

If he went missing while out with a day program for mentally disabled adults (or something similar), you'd think he would be reported missing? If the story he told was true, you'd think there'd be some proof of it happening, unless there was some extreme negligence involved.

He might not have come in a day program group, but something like a church outing or social club trip, or just a group of friends who decided to visit the zoo. Plus, it could've been as far back as the '60s if my math is right. Files were routinely closed if a "runaway" wasn't found by the time they turned 18. If he was an adult when he went missing, the police might not have accepted a missing persons report. Especially since he was from Louisiana, and the group may have made it back there before realizing he was missing.

Being disabled and born by midwives may complicate any attempts at genetic genealogy on Mr. Walls. He might not have a birth certificate, and depending on his age and home area, he might not have attended school for long, if at all.
