Revisiting Lori's mystery shopping - Some years ago I searched for legitimate mystery shopping opportunities. I chose several high paying jobs - car lots and such. The downside of this job is that you have to wait 30-45 days to be paid. When mom retired she was so bored that I taught her how to do it and she was quite successful - bringing in $1000 -2000 a month. Those were the types of shops one does in person. Additionally, there are people who work for the mystery shopping companies who are on salary to ensure the jobs are done correctly, review paperwork and to schedule shoppers. These employees spend a lot of time on paperwork and on the phone. I wonder if this might be the type of mystery shopping work that Lori did to avoid working with the general public.

Maybe Ally knows something about Lori:

The Ruffs said that FLEK was obsessed with researching their family genealogy... i wonder if they kept her records.. I wonder if she had researched her own family and it was hidden in those papers they found at her house. i bet they disposed of most of it before they even found her lockbox...grrrr. BUT...if she was an avid researcher,, there HAS to be some online record. She must have had accounts like we all do to do the research...right?

That is exactly what I had said before. Genealogy is a passion based interest. My interest was conceived first and foremost with my own family...personally, I doubt that I could have as much of an interest in someone else's family in the absence of my own understandings. It does not make sense. There must be clues in her research.

So, I watched a movie today that really got my gears turning. The Wolf of Wall Street....put me in the 'zone' to contemplate possibilities. 'Becky Sue' II, first documented appearance is in May 1988. Approx 7 months prior, was Black Monday, when the stock market crashed.

FLEK alleged that her father was a 'failed stockbroker'.

Let's just say, your industry collapsed today and your profession became almost dog-eat-dog for survival. One month passes with no income, then a couple more....and your savings are dwindling fast. Next step would likely be bankruptcy. Soooooo, you call a bankruptcy attorney.

Also....isn't 402 months also some sort of financial or amortization term?

No, this post does not have a specific reason.....likely more of just a 'thinking out loud'.

~ I do like this theory, now to find a failed stockbroker who's daughter vanished and resumed a new identity. It is questionable why she would say her father was a 'failed stock broker' to begin with.

i took it as a means to explaining to your well-to-do in-laws that you come from class and money but have a reason for not wanting to talk about it.

Here is an archive which I found from October 1991.....

There is a possibility, maybe. That was Washington State in the 80s and one girl was 'Ericka'.

But didn't they say Ericka was making the rounds on TV or something? Should be able to verify pretty easily

Paul Ingram et al. — Olympia, Washington, US — 1988 (arrest)
Prosecution with long imprisonment

“Paul Ingram, a Washington State deputy sheriff, Republican county leader and Pentecostal … was accused by his daughters Ericka and Julie of sexual abuse and of belonging to a satanic cult that allegedly included other sheriff's department members and that engaged in orgies and ritual sadistic abuse. Ingram confessed to having repeated sex with both daughters, and also to impregnating Julie at 15 and taking her to have an abortion. He subsequently retracted these statements, maintaining that all of his "recovered memories" were fantasies produced under pressure. Because he pleaded guilty to rape charges in 1989, he is serving a 20-year prison sentence. Yet months of investigation produced no physical evidence that any sex crimes or satanic practices ever took place.”1

•Location: Olympia, Washington
•3 Claimed Innocent: Paul Ingram, Jim Rabie, Ray Risch
•Accusations: Rape Ingram's two daughters numerous times, starting 16 years prior to the charges (SRA1)
•Outcome: Ingram: Served sentence, Incarcerated: Ingram: 15 years
•Dates: Investigation: 19883, Arrest: Ingram: 19883, Release: Ingram: April 8, 20032
•Problems: Recovered memory. “Ericka had no memories of such abuse, but went into counseling with a therapist who used Recovered Memory Therapy to attempt to restore abuse memories that had been repressed.”3
Poor evidence. “Julie and Erica both recalled having become pregnant and having abortions. They claimed that they had scars all over their body from the years of abuse. … A medical exam showed no evidence of abortions and no marks on either daughter except for Ericka's small scar which was caused by an operation.”3

Respectfully snipped by me....Yes, there were a lot of satanic abuse claims based on repressed memories around this time. A lot of scare, arrests, etc. The issue is, due to some cases being entirely fabricated by therapists it is hard to determine what is real and what is not. The greatest crime coming from "the scare" during the time was that true victims often went undetected or victims became exploited (re-victimized) through the media. I am wary of this link to LEK.

I've looked and looked for such a family. Even looked for articles about crooked stockbrokers. This is one where you could look forever because as herstory said, the market failed right before this, so there were literally thousands and thousands of failed stockbrokers. I'm not saying don't look. It's just a matter of narrowing down searches. When I searched I concentrated on Arizona and I may have looked at Oregon and Washington a little. Then I think we looked at an r. King. I'm trying to remember now if he was a stockbroker. I think I even read stories about the many stockbrokers who committed suicide.

A stockbroker who committed suicide makes sense to me. But, i just have a feeling that she was separated from her parents long before that. It's just a feeling. But that doesn't mean she didn't have a parent who was a stockbroker and she was aware of something that happened to him at that time.

I am new to Websleuths, but I have been following FLEK for a very long time. In searching for a failed stockbroker I found a article about someone who was a investor in 1987 and lost a substantial amount of money. He killed a company VP and seriously wounded his Broker and then killed himself. He was a former lawyer who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud in an insurance scam in Kansas City in 1978. He and his family (a wife and 3 daughters)were placed in the witness protection and relocated to Florida. FLEK's love of Cuban food made me think she might be from Florida and from reading past posts with the same theory. I found two of his daughters on a social site and can't seem to locate any info on the oldest in any aspect of any kind of search. I can see a resemblance to the middle daughter to FLEK.
Maybe FLEK wanted to just disappear and not have anyone know she was related to this man and family. Maybe she invented the failed stock broker instead of a disgruntled investor who killed someone and himself.

Well, it seems there was plenty of insurance money to keep someone under the radar. The insurance company lost..... Twice.

Welcome to WS Jazzy! Great first post! I have been searching for stock brokers as well and hadn't encountered this one. Very interesting. Did you find the two daughter's with the original last name or with the "witness protection" name? I've seen the wife/mother's name published but not the children…

WELCOME!
