Yes that is what I said in the beginning isn't (three strikes and your out ) that's what they say here..Then it's prison time. Why would he endanger his child? He must be narcissistic.

Maybe there was someone else there, so it looks like child abandonment, but things might not be what they seem.

IMOO.

That changes things a bit, doesn't it. Looking at his criminal record, he's constantly in violation. Repeated driving with no valid license (as he did apparently to get to the boat dock), 3 DWIs, poaching, with a pretrial court date coming up April 19. I think it's likely he was facing prison time, not just jail time. It's beginning to be clearer why LE called off the search.
I'm just getting on this thread and I'm sure this has been answered but I'll share anyway. I and my late husband were avid boaters. We've had every type of boat there is. We have owned a boat exactly like this one, same type, model, color, length, width, etc.
IMO, this boat was intentionally driven up on shore with the motor slightly tilted and then after fully beached, the motor was tilted the rest of the way. No way, no how could he pull or push this size boat that far from the water by just his physical strength. I will even venture that the child was safely taken to shore prior to the boat being beached. The impact of a moving boat striking the shore with enough force to be that far from the water would have caused serious injury to a small child. I know this from personal experience from hitting the beach in same type of boat. JMO.

That he was facing prison time and disappeared? Either a weird coincidence or staged. Lonetraveler shared some very good points which make me all the more suspicious of how that boat got to that position, and how the little boy went unscathed.

Also would like to point out that if the father fell accidently out of the boat with the boat at full throttle the back end of the boat would have swung in the opposite direction of the rotation of the propeller as soon as the propeller hit the sand. If this is a creek, he would not be running at full throttle. The boat appears to have traveled a straight path and came to a "controlled" stop, which means, IMO, someone was steering the boat. Also, if a boat slams into the shore, everything and everyone continues to go forward. There would most likely be extensive injuries to a tiny child. JMO.

Exactly. And I would imagine Oliver would be laying there crying, confused, hurt. The person who came upon the boat got there about an hour after the boat was launched and he did not see or hear anything. I can't imagine Oliver walking deep into the woods crying, confused and hurt (searchers were out until 2 am that night), then turning around during the night and heading back to the boat where he happened upon a searcher at 8:30 that morning asking for juice.

He was certainly at least facing jail time, and it appears he was already serving jail time but is on work release.

Alligators up in that part of Texas are rare.
I would say a snake bite might be a bit more realistic. Copperheads, rattlesnakes and cotton mouth. The story is strange. I'm glad the little boy is safe. My children would have on those floatie swimsuits or a life jacket before we would be that close to the water and for sure in a boat. But who knows?

If you have a good lawyer, you can end up on long term probation with a breathalizer you have to breathe into twice a day even on your 4th DWI if you haven't caused injuries (which it doesn't appear he has). But this constant driving while his license is suspended and poaching (for some reason, that's a BIG one!) and failures to appear, I think he was maybe beyond continuing the probation he is on.

What is this "poaching"?

And obviously, he has no care for the safety of his own son, driving with him without a seatbelt, and here, taking him boating without putting on a life vest.

Poaching is hunting or fishing without a license, or in violation of hunting and fishing regulations.

This is all IMO of course. Curious fellow, isn't he? Recently married with a house in the suburbs and a toddler in tow. Wedding pictures show a clean cut, well groomed handsome lad. Yet he seems to love the outdoors and hunting, seems to love being the wilderness camouflage, let your beard go wild outdoorsman survivalist guy. Was this who he told himself he was? Who he really wanted to be? Rather than the guy living with a family in the suburbs?

Don't get me wrong, I know plenty of guys who live the suburban life yet still go off to their hunting leases or the mountains or wherever to get their wilderness/outdoors experience for 2 weeks out of the year. And they are fine with that. But maybe this Meinert guy really couldn't piece it all together. Maybe the married/father/suburban life was really not for him and he was miserably unhappy. Maybe he wanted out of this life but couldn't hack a divorce and child support. Maybe he couldn't face up to disappointing his family and friends who see him as this suburban dad. Maybe his arrest record is a huge clue to what was really going on with him.

Or maybe he had a terrible accident. Time will tell.

Poaching is killing wild game, deer, fish and so on without a license or illegally some how. Had he a charge for poaching?

Why don't the police give all the details...that one is a big one...

You have to type his name in to see his record - two violations of hunting code. Somewhere else I saw a charge by Department of Wildlife for "unauthorized taking of resources", which may be one of those two charges already listed.

I'm not completely sure it's true - I did see he's listed as an inmate in the county jail, and read online that he was on work release so it's a rumor. But it seems to me that completely stopping the search is telling.

I don't think they completely stopped though? They say they believe he is in the water, for some reason...

I have thought it a bit off there hasn't been more urgency in a search. Theoretically he could still be alive, going missing on a Monday night. I don't think LE would suspend looking simply because he has a record and/or facing jail time. There must be something else.... other evidence.

Saw all the posts and I thought it would say he was located. sigh.

I believe they stopped searching underwater and in the woods only because after an extensive search they still didn't find him.

I think I read yesterday that they would send searchers out on boat a couple of times a day to see if he surfaced.
