I used to think Texas was tough, now I am not so sure. (The pitiful response in Uvalde started me thinking they aren’t all that tough.)

But back to Austin, Prosecutor Garza has been giving out some very lenient plea deals. Here is one example. If you look around, there are others.
Thread 'TX - Antonio Cordero-Rios, 35, avoids jail time after exposing himself to women and children, and attacking woman on bike path - 4/28/23'
TX - Antonio Cordero-Rios, 35, avoids jail time after exposing himself to women and children, and attacking woman on bike path - 4/28/23

There is a catch about Texas sentences being tough and that's the silent part by the State's DA's that few including media pick up on:

I think we best learned this the hard way with the 55 year plea sentence of Megan Fieramusca -- killer of best friend Heidi Broussard and the kidnapper of her infant daughter.

[A 55 year prison sentence looks good in MSM headlines but the hidden details prove TX tough at sentencing is false.. MOO].

First, this was was a capital murder case where in exchange to pleading guilty, DA advised (misled) the public that the defendant's plea agreement of 55 years in prison included MF waiving her appeal rights, and how this agreement would save the family from potentially decades of litigation.
However, what DA Garza conveniently left out of the press conference was how all the other charges were dropped, and the capital murder charge downgraded!

He also didn't explain that downgrading the capital murder charge served as the icing on the cake: deal made MF eligible for parole release after completing 50% of her sentence!

IMO, the words eligible and parole should have never crossed Garza's lips nor the ink in his pen.

Oct. 12, 2023: Armstrong faces new felony charge after attempted escape

Jail records showed Armstrong faced a second-degree felony charge of escape causing bodily injury following her attempted escape Oct. 11. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed one corrections officer was injured while trying to apprehend her.

Cell phone video captured by a KXAN viewer showed Armstrong running on a hill next to the medical office’s parking lot, with an officer chasing her. You can see the woman, who had restrained hands at the time, trying to jump over the fence.

As to whether the added charge and escape attempt could impact Armstrong’s trial, former Travis County Prosecutor Alan Bennet said it’s ultimately up to a judge to decide whether the escape attempt is admissible in court.

TIMELINE: Ahead of Kaitlin Armstrong’s trial, a look back at pro-cyclist murder case

I thought the Judge wasn't allowing the trial to be streamed and camera's would only be allowed in the courtroom for opening statements, closing statements and the reading of the verdict. Did that change?

Kaitlin Armstrong escape attempt could show 'conscienceness of guilt' | Morning in America

Kaitlin Armstrong will stand trial this week for the murder of Anna Moriah Wilson in Austin in 2022. NewsNation contributor Jennifer Coffindaffer says Armstrong's most recent escape attempt will make the defense's job even harder.

Nothing changed. Jury selection has started. No cameras. Relying on reporters only.

Sadly, I really couldn't find a suitable tribute to honor #MoWilson who was allegedly gunned down by the girlfriend of Ms. Wilson's friend/lover. I did find an interview clip of her below.

At the end of the day, Ms. Wilson was the victim. She was young, talented, beautiful, and full of life.

Hoping we all remember Ms. Wilson, whose life was tragically snuffed out due to unadulterated jealousy.

Agree w/JC, and I am not LE, "embarrassed for them"... really embarrassing moment and hope this event will encourage them to train going forward! It's their profession and provides security for the community, all a matter of my opinion. This is not to insult LE, I have many LE in my own family. It's an opinion. ;)

#KaitlinArmstrong was certainly faster than the officers she out ran! But that fence....

The FBI Swat tryout required us to do at least 2 dead hang pull-ups, palms facing away with a 25 Pound weight dangling from a weight belt we wore. You had to do 10 to really be competitive.

Women argued, this was unfair and this requirement was a way to keep women off SWAT.

It wasn't unfair. Why? scaling fences like this requires a Lot of arm and shoulder strength.

KA should have been practicing pullups it would seem.

The officers got "hurt" chasing her down. I have to say, when I learned this and viewed the tape, I was a bit embarrassed for them. There was a reason she thought she could outrun them.

NEW: Kaitlin Armstrong's defense will likely try to show the case against her is built on circumstantial evidence in Moriah Wilson's murder, and it's unclear whether if she'll testify. But her travel to Costa Rica likely will be key evidence against her.

Going back in time... an X post from 10.23.2023.

NEW: Kaitlin Armstrong has received a court-appointed attorney, Brian Erskine, to represent her on a recent escape charge, a move that indicates she's been deemed indigent and is out of money to pay her current lawyers to handle a new charge.

On Monday, 100 potential jurors were brought in to be briefed on a case that has garnered international media attention.

"You need to be able to leave any preconceived notions outside the courtroom," said Judge Brenda Kennedy.

Some jurors dismissed themselves when Judge Kennedy asked if any had preformed opinions about the case that could affect their verdict.

After the judge addressed jurors, both attorneys walked through various legal terms and had the opportunity to question jurors.

The judge said she expects the trial to take a couple of weeks and asked jurors to make themselves available through Nov. 15.

Opening statements are expected to take place on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
