Sadly, no new developments on the case; however, Nathan's dad and stepmother announced that they are going to seek custody of Madison with the blessings of Nathan's mother.

I met Nathan's mother yesterday, it was heartbreaking when she told me what happened and I realized this was her son and daughter in law

Today is the second day of testimony relating to the custody of Madison, the four year old daughter of Nathan Maddox, who was visiting Madison when he and his wife were gunned down. Nathan's father and stepmother are seeking custody of Madison with the support of Nathan's mother and with the support of Krystal's family. The maternal grandparents are also fighting for custody. Kristen, the mother of Madison, and Nathan's ex-wife, had been arrested and was out on bond for possession of methamphetamines at the time of the slaying of Nathan and his wife Krystal. Nathan had filed for a change in the parent/child relationship this fall he filed a police report reporting that Kristen's father had choked him and threatened him with a shotgun while Nathan was complying with his supervised visitation orders to get extended time with his daughter.

After the murders of Krystal and Nathan, CPS visited the home where Kristen lived with her parents and with Madison. CPS found a bag of methamphetamine and a needle in the maternal grandmother's dresser drawer. There was also a loaded .pistol handgun on the mother's nightstand in the bedroom that Kristen shared with Madison. The family also had failed to have a septic tank installed and were discharging raw sewage 50 ft. from their home. As a result, Kristen was removed for safety reasons.

There still have been no arrests made in this case.

There was court yesterday, but not today. It reconvenes on Friday. This article says that CPS is fighting for Madison to stay in their custody until the criminal investigation is over. The mother, maternal grandparents, paternal grandparents, and the CPS are all fighting for custody of this 5 year old girl. Please share and pray that the missing pieces of this case come together so that an arrest can be made and this little girl can be closer to having a normal life.

More testimony in the custody of Madison Maddox. A witness for the Westfall grandparents was out due to a medical surgery and a continuance was granted until April. In the meantime, Madison will remain with the foster family in protective custody. Nobody knows who the foster parents are or where they live, so hopefully she will remain safe.

One of the news articles talked about Madison's video interview. In it, she said she should not have gone to see her dad and maybe this wouldn't have happened. I thought it was so safe that this 5 year old girl feels responsible for these horrible murders.

According to KLTV in Lufkin, Letha Westfall has been arrested for possession of a controlled substance by fraud. She has also been named as a suspect in the murder of her ex-son-in-law, Nathan Maddox and his wife, Krystal Maddox. Westfall was inside the church when the supervised visitation began. She, the mediator, and the child remained inside the church as Nathan and Krystal exited the building. As Nathan and Krystal left the building, they were ambushed and gunned down, pronounced dead at the scene.

Well, I guess this isn't a shock. What's so difficult for me to understand is how so many people could be so unbelievably stupid. Did they really think no one would suspect them? What a waste.

Four members of the SAME family arrested over double murder of father and girlfriend in midst of bitter custody dispute over his five-year-old daughter

An East Texas woman, her brother and her parents are charged with carrying out a scheme to kill the woman's ex-husband and new wife as both sides were embroiled in a custody dispute over a 5-year-old girl, authorities said Wednesday.

Sheriff's deputies in Tyler County arrested four people Tuesday night in the parking lot of the church where Nathan and Krystal Maddox were gunned down in January after visiting the girl.

Nathan Maddox's ex-wife Kristen Westfall; her brother, Cameron; and her parents, Letha and Paul Westfall, all were indicted on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity.

From Fran's link... Custody battle still goes on.

State authorities want the girl placed in foster care and said they found drug paraphernalia in Letha Westfall's home, as well as a gun on a nightstand within easy reach of the girl, Pulliam said.

Nathan Maddox's father, Jim, has since petitioned to become his granddaughter's primary caregiver. Jim Maddox's attorney, Ryan Deaton of Lufkin, said Wednesday it had been a struggle to get Nathan Maddox time to visit his daughter.

'No one even knew where he was getting his visits or how those visits were going to go or anything,' Deaton said. 'The only people who did know were the Westfalls and my clients. It would have been impossible for anyone else to do this.'

Reason for the murders:

'They were worried that Nathan was doing better in his life and might get custody of the little girl,' Ryan said.

Authorities have not charged any of the four with murder, as investigators are still trying to determine who shot the couple, Ryan said.

On SurfieTX link to Kisten's FB, all the pictures are of Kristen and daughter Madi, so sad she felt so threatened by the custody issues that they had to resort to murder. IMO

You think Kristen's page is creepy, check out the public page she created to "Bring Madi Back to Her Home." https://www.facebook.com/#!/BringMadiBackToHerHome

These people are creepy, and delusional. Thought they were so smart, nobody would ever figure it out.

The comments indicate how people are seeing through the act. I'm kind of surprised they've not been deleted.

Yes, that page was set up the night that Kristen's mother, Letha, was arresting by having a controlled substance by fraud. Apparently in December, 2013, Paul Westfall and Letha Westfall were separated (despite all of the Christmas pictures around the Christmas tree to look like a happy family..remember, public pictures and a child custody case). Paul was taking a prescription drug that was a controlled substance. While they were separated, Letha went and filled his prescription. He filed charges against her. Then a few weeks ago, she was arrested and he dropped the charges and wouldn't cooperate with the investigation. Letha was released from jail the next morning.

So since the moderator is Kristen, and Kristen is in jail, there is nobody to moderate the page. Otherwise, you can be sure the comments would be deleted. Cameron Westfall, the brother, had even been cocky enough to go to the "Justice for Kristen and Nathan Maddox" page and make comments!

The District Clerk in Tyler County said that no future court dates have been scheduled for the four. Maddox said he is not sure of a court date but will wait patiently. “We know it could be at least two years,” Maddox said. “It is a big case”...

In May of 2013, Paul Westfall was determined to be incompetent to stand trial, but in September that was overruled after Westfall spent time in a state mental facility.

Bond increased on Westfall family members, trial date now set

According to the report, District Judge Delinda Gibbs Walker increased bond to $2 million on Paul, Letha, and Kristen Westfall. The three are accused of capital murder in the deaths of Nathan & Krystal Maddox, outside of the Mt Carmel Baptist Church, just east of Colmesneil.

The three originally had $1 million dollar bonds after they were indicted by the Tyler County Grand Jury on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity. However, that same grand jury recently indicted the trio on capital murder charges, prompting the bond increase.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that a pre-trial hearing has been set for Thursday, May 12th, and the trial has been set to begin on Monday, August 8th in the District Courtroom of the Tyler County Courthouse.

A Colmesneil man has pleaded guilty to his role in connection to the shooting deaths of a Zavalla couple. A condition of the plea is that he will testify against his sister and parents who are charged with capital murder in the same deaths.

Also in court Thursday, the judge granted a change-of-venue for the sister's capital murder trial.

Cameron Paul Westfall, 20, pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree tampering with evidence. The judge deferred finding of guilt contingent upon Westfall testifying against his family. He faces up to 10 years in prison for each charge.

One member of the Tyler County Westfall family has entered a guilty plea and has received her sentenced in relation to the January 2014 shooting deaths of a Zavalla couple.

56-year-old Letha Westfall stood before District Judge Delinda Gibbs Walker in the District Courtroom of the Tyler County Courthouse in Woodville on Tuesday afternoon, and pleaded guilty to a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity. As part of a plea deal worked out between the prosecution and defense, Judge Walker then sentenced Westfall to life in prison.

According to prosecutors with the Texas Attorney General's Office, she won't be eligible for parole until the year 2046, when she is 87-years-old.
