WOW! Prosecutor in the #JuanDavidOrtiz trial just quit! Mid-trial. “I have officially left the Webb County District Attorney’s Office. That is the most unprofessional and toxic workplace I’ve ever had to deal with. I do not recommend it. I’m sorry to anyone I let down.”

WHAT!??!! Oh no - wonder what will happen with the trial?

Here's an article

Dec. 1, 2022

SAN ANTONIO – In a shocking turn of events, an associate district attorney with Webb County has quit in the middle of the capital murder trial of a former Border Patrol supervisor, Juan David Ortiz.

Joshua Davila in a Facebook post said the following; “I have officially left the Webb County District Attorney’s Office. That is the most unprofessional and toxic workplace I’ve ever had to deal with. I do not recommend it. I’m sorry to anyone I let down.”

Davila was in the courtroom for the first three days of the trial and on Wednesday even questioned witnesses on the stand.

Webb County District Attorney Isidro Alaniz’s office spokesperson told KSAT 12 they had no comment.

KGNS, the television station in Laredo, is reporting Alaniz told them that Davila did resign today and that it wouldn’t affect the case.

Oh good - won't effect the case. I guess Alaniz can take over - he did the opening statements.

I was just going to say....it appears they don't intend to miss a beat. Crazy.

Sounds like the jury is still listening to his interrogation video.

for Thursday, 12/1/22 - afternoon session.

Most of today has been interrogation video of Ortiz in a room by himself. Some of what he said this morning was still denial of knowing any of the victims and at one point he even crumbles the photos of Claudine Luera.

Disk 7 is about to play and this is where the confession was made by Ortiz.

“I just wanted to clean up the streets if nobody is going to *advertiser censored**king do it.” Ortiz explains why he killed 4 women during interrogation video.

After confessing to the murders of four women Ortiz asks for and is given Whataburger. Video ends right after he eats. Cross examination of Capt. Calderon has begun by defense.

It’s day 7 of the Juan David Ortiz trial. Court will begin shortly. Here’s a recap of yesterday.

Cross examination begins of Texas Ranger EJ Salinas

Salinas2.jpg

Next on the stand is Sean Daniel. He is a former firearm analyst for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Daniel.jpg

Daniel concluded his report saying he believes everything he tested came from Ortiz’s .40 caliber gun which was his govt. issued weapon.

Back from lunch break. Now on the stand is Dr. Jenny Lounsbury a forensic scientist with Tx Dept. Of Public Safety. She examined the trace evidence in this case.

Jenny.jpg

Now on stand is Webb Co. Sheriff Office Corporal Dana Sarquiz. She is in charge of department who monitors inmate calls.

Dana.jpg

Judge will only allow portions of first phone call played and will not allow the second call saying it wasn’t relevant. Jury will come in shortly after state makes redactions to call.

As a phone call is being played between Ortiz and his wife he has put his head down. Most reaction we’ve seen from him. This is all being done outside the presence of jury and judge will decide if they will be allowed in trial.

Phone.jpg

The state has rested.

Defense will not be putting any witnesses and closing will take place tomorrow morning.
