Have I missed anything on a reward being offered? Has anyone offered a reward for information on her whereabouts? Her parents have stayed away from cameras? I haven’t seen any news coverage of them standing with the police begging for the return of their daughter.

Nope. They have lawyers, are not cooperating with LE and are secluded inside their home.

But, their baby is still missing.

The fact all 3 cars were towed gives us a clue.

In order to tow those vehicles, Texas LE need either consent or a search warrant. (And, I doubt they consented)

If a SW was obtained; that would mean they have found PROBABLE CAUSE to believe there is possible evidence relating to the murder in or on the vehicle(s). REASONABLE SUSPICION will not allow a SW to be obtained.

I'll list the definitions of these two concepts; but sometimes the legal jargon with the way they are defined just adds to more confusion.

PROBABLE CAUSE:
sufficient reason based upon known facts to believe a crime has been committed or that certain property is connected with a crime. (http://dictionary.law.com/Default.aspx?selected=1618)

REASONABLE SUSPICION:
an objectively justifiable suspicion that is based on specific facts or circumstances and that justifies stopping and sometimes searching (as by frisking) a p
(http://dictionary.findlaw.com/definition/reasonable-suspicion.html)

I like to think of PROBABLE cause as FACTS and/or EVIDENCE of a crime.

This separates REASONABLE suspicion as "circumstances" or "conditions" that lead a reasonable person to believe a crime has been committed.

And, assuming they obtained a SW; that means EVIDENCE of a/the crime was found on/in(plain view) or leading to the vehicles.

Thank you for these. I find this topic very interesting. I once had to drive three hours round trip to return a forensic textbook I borrowed from my college student son and forgot to return before he went back to school. :websleuther:

Meredith Yeoman from NBC just reported there was a search warrant executed on the house...

Detectives are reviewing hours of surveillance video retrieved from several neighbors. They're also searching through cell phones, computers and three vehicles, taken by investigators during a consensual search of the family's home.

Back in the neighborhood, the search by strangers continued on Tuesday.

“I've got magnets on the end so I can set my phone to it and I have the flashlight on and I'll run the camera and look down the pipes to see if I can see anything,” said Casey Urquhart.

Keller mom Preethi Abraham and her friend came to the Richardson neighborhood as well.

“If they fear that somebody took this child, then as parents come out and plea for the child on that child's behalf,” Abraham said. “It's just really hard for us to swallow this story that this little girl was disciplined for not drinking milk at 3 a.m.”
My bolding.

A major motive in MOST homicide investigations is money.

Even when it's not about the money, IT IS about the money.

Don't be surprised is a financial motive ends up factoring in somewhere.

Strangers were out today searching for Sherin while lawyered-up mom and dad remained hiding in their house. SMDH.

Mothers walked the alley on Tuesday where Sherin was last seen.

News of the child’s disappearance has been tough on the neighborhood, including on Mahbub Hossain, a father of three. Police and FBI combed through his house, searching for clues.

“They went through our garage. They went through the freezer, shed…” said Hossain.

He handed over surveillance video, but it didn’t capture anything.

I got one thread open here which is poor little Sherin and a "Mother" and "Father" who have stopped cooperating even though their darling girl is still missing. And I got another thread open which is Caliyah McNabb with her "Father" locked up and her "Mothers" fake 911 call and she's been found dead. And I'm looking at both these threads and all I can think is WTF..............

Ikr? I'm following them both and I'm just freakin' depressed, angry, and confused at this point.

BREAKING: Search warrant being executed at home where Sherin Mathews was last seen. @NBCDFW Twitter Feed

Catching up, so I don't know--is Sheryn's adopted mom Indian? Or has that been assumed because the child was adopted from India? (Family name of Matthews doesn't seem right for an Indian family, although the Dad looks like he could have come from a number of places).

But, I am also thinking that surveillance video from a variety of sources may prove valuable, considering the cars having been towed away for processing. Dad's story is that during the time between discovering the child was not by the tree and the time he called LE, he was at home doing laundry. If dad went somewhere else, it is likely that one of those cars would show up in a surveillance camera somewhere enroute. And bust his story.
Mathews would be a British colonial Indian surname.

When conducting a search warrant, does crime scene tape usually go up?

When conducting a search warrant, does crime scene tape usually go up?

Good question! I've seen that sometimes but not always.

I think it's because supposedly Sherin was last seen outside. I bet the FBI is securing the entire yard and probably more, like the tree and alley area.

I am well educated and I do most of the household chores.

I know what you mean, but pointing out that many men wouldn't do laundry at 3am isn't necessarily a comment about this family's culture but about husbands in general.

AND YES I KNOW that many wonderful husbands do the laundry and perhaps even do it at 3am. (My husband is wonderful, but he doesn't do laundry at 3am...or ever.)

It remains, imo, that a husband doing the laundry is not necessarily the usual thing to expect....at 3am. Maybe we'll discover that he does that chore routinely and allows his wife to sleep through middle-of-the-night drama with their daughter. Doubt it.

Hi!:seeya:

The 3 am part is definitely weird! I have seen a few comments to the effect of, my husband doesn't even know how to work our washing machine and the wife is responsible for household chores. Those general sentiments, that it's out of the question that an Indian American husband would do laundry at any time of day, are the ones I think may be misguided.

Often on WS, I notice that people try to ascribe theories to perceived "cultural differences". In most* cases, I think a criminal's culture or country of origin has little bearing on their crime.

*obviously not all. So-called honor killings being the most glaring example.

If Sherin is deceased this was in no way an accident. When there has been a genuine accident parents call 911 immediately whether the child is breathing or not...........they do not wait 5 hours to even report her missing. Whatever happened to Sherin it was a purposeful act that caused her death (murder). IMO And sadly, I do believe she is with the angels now.:(

Only the cold blooded murderer Casey Anthony tries to sell the BS accident theory. Both CA, and this man show without a doubt they didn't care one tiny bit about their child.

I don't know what he may accustomed to doing being an Indian, but my husband has washed, dried, folded, and hung clothes up numerous times over the years. He does it as well, and detailed as I do them. He never did it at 3am in the morning though, and would do it when he came in from work. He still does it from time to time. We were sleeping and so were our children at 3am in the morning.

Was this man up and had not even gone to bed at that time of morning? Does anyone know what his profession happens to be?

Updated at 7:15 p.m. Oct 10.:*Revised throughout to include additional details.*

Authorities on Tuesday evening searched the Richardson home of a 3-year-old girl who has been missing since Saturday when her father sent her outside as punishment for not drinking her milk.*

Richardson police along with an FBI evidence recovery team entered the house Tuesday night to execute a search warrant, police Sgt. Kevin Perlich said.*

The search was part of the "natural progression" of the investigation, he said.*

Sherin's father, Wesley Mathews, 37, was arrested Saturday on a charge of abandoning or endangering a child. He was released from custody late Sunday after posting $250,000 bond.

*He is required to wear an electronic monitoring device and surrender his passport as part of the conditions of his bond.

Why was the last sighting at 3 o'clock and the parents not call us until after 8 a.m., that's the question we want answered as well,"*Perlich told KXAS-TV NBC5.*"As far as why she was out there, how long she was out there, that's the questions we have for the parents."

The girl's mother does not face any charges. She was in the house at the time, but was reportedly asleep and unaware of what Wesley Mathews was doing, Perlich said.*

Sherin's parents are no longer speaking with police and have since retained attorneys, he said.*

Investigators will process what they've collected, including security footage, electronics and items in the family's three vehicles that were towed from the home Saturday, Perlich said.*

On Monday, police retrieved an item from near the tree where Sherin was left and placed it in a bag. It was unclear what the object was and whether it was of any "evidentiary value," Perlich said.
