Victim: Susan Leigh Wolfe, White female, DOB: 01/13/54
Address: 200 block of Franklin Boulevard.
Date: January 9, 1980
Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound
Motive: Unknown

Susan Wolfe was abducted while walking in the 200 block of Franklin Boulevard. Ms. Wolfe was walking from her residence, 212 Franklin St., to a friend's house located at 109 E. 49th Street. Wolfe had planned to stay the night with her friend on 49th Street due to the fact that her residence had been exterminated for roaches. A witness reported seeing Wolfe walking eastbound in the 200 block of Franklin Blvd. The witness advised that two unknown males, wearing trench coats, kidnapped Wolfe. He stated that they forced her inside of a 1971 or 1972 white vinyl / maroon, two door, Dodge Polara. He reported that the suspect vehicle had major collision damage to passenger door.

On January 10, 1980 at 8:34 a.m. while inspecting rental property, a citizen found the partially clothed body of Susan Wolfe in the south alley of the 2000 block of E. 17th Street. Dr. Robert Bayardo performed an autopsy on the body of Wolfe. It was learned that Wolfe had died as the result of a single gunshot wound. There was evidence of sexual assault.

Homicide investigators are asking anyone with information concerning this case to please call the APD homicide tip line at (512) 477-3588 or the Homicide Detail at (512) 974-5210.

A DNA match in a 1980 cold case that happened in Austin is possibly connected to a man who is currently in a Massachusetts prison, according to a Travis County search warrant affidavit filed earlier this week.''

''The man “confidently described” the suspect vehicle as a 1970 Dodge Polara, as he told police he worked in the automotive industry, court records said.''

''On April 27, 2023, the test results of the DNA came in via the Texas Department of Public Safety Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), according to the affidavit. That is when the possible match was connected with the man in the Massachusetts prison.

The man was arrested on Feb. 15, 1980, in another Texas county, and that is how officials were able to track down his records containing his fingerprints. Those records documented he was “stopped in a 1969 Dodge Polara,” court records said''.

''On July 23, APD received the results of the direct comparison of Brewer Jr.'s DNA to the DNA found on Wolfe's body all those years ago. DPS ruled that Brewer Jr. "cannot be excluded as the contributor."
On Aug. 14, an arrest warrant was issued charging Brewer Jr. with Wolfe's murder.
However, the investigation is still ongoing. APD is still trying to find the passenger who was in the car when Wolfe was abducted. Anyone who has any information is asked to call the APD Cold Case Unit at 512-974-5250 or Crime Stoppers at 512-459-TIPS. '

''On January 9, 1980, 25-year-old Susan Leigh Wolfe enrolled at the University of Texas Austin School of Nursing. On the same day, at about 10 p.m., she was kidnapped about one block from her home while walking to a friend’s house after having her house sprayed for bugs. A witness to the kidnapping watched as a car stopped and the driver exited grabbing Susan in a ''bear hug,'' placed a coat over her head, and forced her into the car. The witness also said that the passenger door opened, but he did not see what the passenger did during the abduction. Having worked in the automotive industry, this witness confidently described the car as a 1970 Dodge Polara.''
