Burglars don’t break into a church to steal music equipment, normally. What they do break into churches for is to get cash. Cash because they’re in desperate circumstances, maybe unemployed, maybe behind on bills, maybe feeding an addiction. A church on a rural highway in the rain on a Sunday night is a smart play, IF the cash is still on site. They won’t know until they break in and find out. And if they’ve tested for an alarm and found none, there is no reason to be in and out. In their mind, they’ve got hours.

"The St. Paul Catholic Church — which reopened for Mass on May 19 after closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic — now faces another tragedy. Thousands of dollars in musical instruments and gear, along with a computer used to livestream weekly service, were stolen on Sunday night by a thief who was captured on surveillance footage"

How was Missy killed?
Gun?
Knife?
The hammer like object?

Missy’s manner of death was by handgun.

While local LE has never answered this question for the public, this is revealed in data searchable at www.murderdata.org, the website of the Murder Accountability Project. It does not give info by name, but it is easily discerned by search limiters, because of the location and low number of homicides that happen in Ellis County. Where does their data come from? They are provided by uniform crime reports, also known as UCR reports, which local police departments submit to the government monthly and which are available to any researcher or media as a matter of law. We can also go directly to their UCR source, which gives us the same info and answer.

Maybe a better answer would have been "(Church) burglars don't always take the musical equipment." They didn't this time, either by intent of only wanting cash, or due to having suddenly run out of time from an unintended encounter and murder.

@DeDee
For some reason I can’t get the photos or video to appear when I click your link.
Can you , super please post the photos? TIA

This has been one lucky killer. To the best of my knowledge LE does not know what kind of vehicle the killer was driving. (I can't see someone walking out of there in the rain in that attire.) First the outside surveillance cameras are not working. (Was the killer lucky or did they know about the cameras?) I've not heard if any of the campers arriving early saw a vehicle exiting the lot.

IF it is true that a "passerby" saw a dark SUV exiting CCoC at around 4:30 AM would it have to have been turning right? Or could it cross over to the lanes heading south? The exact time could have been determined by when the passerby vehicle was caught on the gun shop cam (with some minor calculation). If the SUV went south,it would have been seen on gun shop video. If north, possibly on the next surveillance cam to the north. I imagine that LE may have looked into the possibilities of it being captured on cam but I don't recall any remarks about the tip being pursued. If it's true that the passerby witnessed the SUV exiting CCoC, at the time they estimated, that is a HUGE clue about SP's means of transportation. Was the passerby an anonymous tipster, or does LE know who they are and the make of their vehicle. No idea................ JMO

Thank you.
I have read a gun was found at the scene, but couldn't understand if it was used or just left there...
I also have read that she was hit by a heavy object (unknown) but probably the large hammer suspect was carrying...
I also have read a knife was used...
Is it possible all three methods were used? All three weapons?
I think so, as a part of the general intention to cause confusion, just as the suspects costume does - shoes(?) or shoe covers, and all else, including odd rambling behavior prior to the murder.
If so, I suspect the hammer was used initially, and then the other two.

I suspect the plastic bin carried by Suspect (not clear on the size) held perhaps a small knife and gun, ammunition, (all packaged to be hidden) and also was used after the murder to carry away the bullet casings, whether one or more.

I imagine the murderer had a plan to separate himself from the murder weapons evidence, gun, knife, bullets as quickly as possible if he was to encounter someone in the building.
If he had no weapons on or in his possession, he could have claimed he was a simple burglar.

Same with a successful escape of the church building.
He would seem to be person dressed in a crazy burglar costume - or he shed the costume quickly too.
No costume, no weapons, just a person wandering around suspiciously.
So I hope the police did search the area thoroughly for cast off items.

The suspect, man or woman, did all the necessary research, planning, shopping and practice. No doubt had a well thought out escape plan from the church and the general area.
All of this line of thinking makes me believe there was a second person involved. Even if it was a minor role in discarding /hiding the weapons and costume.

If this has been fully discussed in the past, my apologies.

I included the term “normally”. There are always outliers. But breaking into a church to steal musical gear or sound equipment doesn’t happen as often, statistically.

I've been down this path with someone else who used this source and the accuracy of this unofficial database. Yes, if I go to "Search Cases" and plug in all of the datapoints of Missy's case and use "Handgun" it shows one unsolved case. However, if pick other cases the accuracy seems suspect. One case in point is Elizabeth Barraza, 29, Harris County, TX in January 2019. We know from a Ring camera video she was shot with a handgun and LE has acknowledged that fact. It is unsolved. But when you plug in the data points in the murder database it doesn't show any unsolved murders involving a 29 year old female with a handgun in 2019. If widen my parameters, age 26-32, all weapons, race white or unknown, the database shows one unsolved murder of a white female in 2019, age 31, killed with a knife.

If I take another case, the Delphi unsolved murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German in Delphi (Carroll County) IN in Feb 2017. According to the database there are only 2 murders in Carroll County between 2005 and 2019 and both were in 2007 and solved. A 43 yo white female killed with a handgun during an argument and a 44 yo white female killed with a rifle during a burglary. Since no weapon was ever mentioned I used "All" for weapons. I used "All" for sex and age. No record of ANY murders in Carroll County after 2007.

So I took a third case, the unsolved murders of Heidi Childs 18 and David Metzler 19, in Montgomery County VA in August 2009. According to the database there was only one murder in Montgomery County. LE stated that they were both killed with a 30-30 caliber rifle. According to the database there were no murders - both male and female data entered and all ages and races - with a rifle between 2007 and 2010. I have to expand the weapons search to "All" weapons to find the murders listed with an unspecified firearm.

After those I decided to select a 4th unsolved case. Shirley, 87, and Russell Dermond, 88, Putnam County GA in May 2014. I don't know the weapon used so I selected "All". I used all ages and "All" for sex. According to the database there were only 2 murders total between 2013 and 2019 and both occurred in 2015 and were both solved - a black female age 43 killed with a handgun and a white male age 70 killed with unknown weapon. No murders, solved or unsolved, any age, any race, any weapon in 2014.

Those were the first 4 cases I picked and 3 of the 4 don't appear in the database with the 4th not clearly indicating the type (handgun, rifle, shotgun) of firearm.

To get a better picture one would really need to take a random sample and check them. But for this instance when the first 4 cases I pick are not listed or lacking sufficient data, I wonder if finding a case that seems like it might be Missy's case is really her case or if the data involving the case is accurate.

Hmmm. Good question. It says on the website that submission is voluntary so I wonder which agency submitted it. FBI? Ellis County? Whichever it was, if the submission was about the Bevers case, seems like they didn't consult with Midlo LE , and let the cat out of the bag, lol. It could be a submission about a different case, I guess. Would be interesting to know, but I don't suggest holding our respective breath in anticipation of a public statement. JMO Also, if submissions are from local PD's, why would Midlo submit it to a national database and yet decline to say that a handgun was used when asked??? JMO

I have been hesitant to post this image. Due to enlarging and noise reduction there can be added details (for example light reflection may show up as a white line) sneaking into a picture.
In most cases I have to then compare similar captures gone through the same image enhancing steps - if that's the case - to decide what is there and what isn't. I would then eliminate images with altered properties. In this case I decided to mark and distinguish between usable and non usable areas. So please do not further edit and refrain from using the yellow marked areas.

Again, I have marked the areas to be ignored in yellow. This image captures SP ("Swatperp") in the East hallway. I am mainly focusing on the right leg and both feet.

SP seems to be wearing shinguards that may reach over parts of the instep area, marked in red.

Most of interest to me is the left foot (SP's left foot) showing a possible over-pronation, marked in purple.

As always, click to enlarge images:

This just gets me more confused about this already mind twisting act. I immediately have several guesses at best. Oversized, cover of some sort, shadow, person with a big foot? This is the only case I think I’ve ever seen where the best possible evidence, the video, has only led to more questions than answers.

Wow. Great job.
Did this person wrap Saran Wrap around their boots and legs or am I seeing things?

Remarkable. Your work on image detail is second to none!

Simply amazing! I can see what you see. Gratitude and thankfulness to you from me. And, from all of us really, NIN.

I'm seeing it. There are shin guards for sale to protect the leg and the forefoot; I found some for kickboxing for example. Even (2) fastening straps seem to be seen on SP's right back leg, beneath the knee throat. I don't see the straps on his left leg.
ETA: The black little "thing" on his left leg (between 2 yellow arrows) - what might it be? It is looking the same on the marked and unmarked pic.

@NIN

Do you feel the shin guards are meant to make it appear SPs got real legs; otherwise, what's the point of wearing them strapped as they are?

ETA: Or does SP have thin ankles? I think the answer us Yes!

Wow, superb work Nin, there's no question that's a shin guard, and gee, it's clear! Ah, so that's why the right shoe looks different if the guard is covering the instep. This perp is going all out to protect the vulnerable leg. So, would this mean it's not a full prosthetic leg, (if it is one of course) maybe just foot or ankle, because a full artificial leg would be way too skinny to have that guard width around and holding in place - MOO, I'm no expert. Your work is amazing, thanks for sharing.

Which burglar protects himself from the tips of his hair to the tips of his toes, if he wants to steal a little ring bag money or something? I can't believe in the burglary theory .....
Yes FG1, I don't believe this is a burglary either. At first instance to me he looks like, h'mm, maybe a psych nurse/warden checking on the patients, going from room to room .... then he starts swinging his hammer and breaking into doors and he takes on, err, an unhinged lunatic look ..... and yet, why aren't they caught yet? If this is the same guy driving round the car-park, h'mm, I have to say, the way he parks that car is absolute perfection, I mean, you couldn't fault that manoeuvre, IT IS PERFECT ... who is this guy!
