Why check it on that specific night tho...hmmmmm.

I was thinking that the mother checked it when police asked for CCTV and dash-cam footage. She then noticed something suspicious along with the fact her son was out that very night and that the girl missing was the daughter of the guy who supplied her son drugs. 3 things together then mum goes to the police.

The mother of the accused, 16, said she was aware he had been smoking cannabis since he was 14.

She said she would see him smoking with friends in the garden.

His mother added she “wasn’t really that bothered” about his drug use.

Accused had an 'exam party' the night before Alesha disappeared, says mum

The accused’s mother said he held a post-exam party on the night before Alesha disappeared, a court heard.

She said the last of his friend left around 12.30am and he remained in the house.

She also explained a video security system had been installed in the house because a family member with dementia was moving in.

Two cameras were fitted in the home.

For the record - I'm not an 'oh well my kid smokes' kinda parent. I'd have flipped my nut ...

It certainly sounds like Laissez-Faire parenting. I did wonder about this earlier too as at 16 I wouldn’t have been able to come in and out of the house at all hours of the night. Guess everyone has different parenting styles though.

Accused’s mother tells court she asked Toni McLachlan to stop selling her son cannabis. Says Toni laughed and said it was her boyfriend who was the dealer. Then says it was occasional use and she actually wasn’t “that bothered” about it.
