Ugh is this the new "thing" when someone feels the need to let out his anger and frustration on a helpless and weaker victim? First Landen, then last week the boy in Germany pushed under a train (he died), and now this poor boy. I'm so angry

Little sweetheart, I hope he recovers fully.

A six-year-old boy who was "thrown" from the 10th floor of the Tate Modern art gallery was a French national visiting London with his family.

[...]

Writer Mark Welte was on the observation deck with a friend when he heard a commotion and what he described as a loud "primal scream".

"Someone said someone had thrown a child over. I leapt up and looked over the rail and I did indeed see a child down below there," he said.

"The child's mother then tried to climb the rail. I restrained her and pulled her back."

'STALKER-LIKE BEHAVIOUR'

His odd, stalker-like behaviour was said to have distressed several trippers at the tourist attraction before the incident...

A former carer who worked with the alleged attacker last year, told The Sun: “He’s one of the most difficult and challenging mental patients I’ve ever encountered."

“He suffers from schizophrenia and has a tendency towards violence. He is stockily built — about 5ft 10in tall — and gets angry when he is denied something that he wants or is told what to do"...

“Something must have gone seriously wrong at the Tate because he’s not allowed out unless accompanied by at least two support staff. There will have to be a serious inquiry into what he was doing there.”

Poor kid... RIP
I can't imagine what his family is going through now.
And now (you can bet on that) that monster who is 17, underage, won't be punished for real.
Just some years in a minimum security prison (or maybe house arrest) and then on the streets again...
Everytime the same story

Last word I can find is "critical but stable condition".

If it’s true that he has known mental health conditions and is supposed to be under supervision, it’s not ‘the same story.’

Things like this are extremely rare.

This is as I thought, the 17yr old apparently has schizophrenia.

It is just like what happened at "Mall of America" to Landen. This is beyond scary. Sure it is "random", but if it happens to your child...it seems like these things are occurring more and more frequently.

It's awful what happened to this little boy and I wish him a full recovery.Obviously I think it's a horrendous thing to do but this 17 year old KID is ill not a monster as far as we know,if he was that dangerous it's down to his care givers to make sure he and those around him are safe as he might not have mental capacity to do that for himself.IMO.Moo.

Find this really sad obviously mostly for this little boy and his family. But can't help but feel for this 17 year old too, if the reports are true that he has severe mental health needs then that throws a whole new light on what happened here.

They should never have taken an angry 17 yr old schizophrenic, who was 'hard to handle' and had violent impulses, to a public place, with children running around him.
That was negligent behaviour on the social service part, imo.

Did they though? It sounds like he might have been there by himself.

An adolescent with conduct disorder (which seems likely given his violent behaviour) can develop schizophrenia. It is listed in the DSM 5.

Conduct disorder (CD) refers to a set of problem behaviours exhibited by children and adolescents, which may involve the violation of a person, their rights or their property. It is characterised by aggression and, sometimes, law-breaking activities.

CD is one of a group of behavioural disorders known collectively as disruptive behaviour disorders, which include oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Early intervention and treatment is important, since children with untreated CD are at increased risk of developing a range of problems during their adult years including substance use, personality disorders and mental illnesses.

Some of the typical behaviours of a child with CD may include:
  • Refusal to obey parents or other authority figures
  • Truancy
  • Tendency to use drugs, including tobacco and alcohol, at a very early age
  • Lack of empathy for others
  • Spiteful and vengeful behaviour
  • Being aggressive to animals
  • Being aggressive to people, including bullying and physical or sexual abuse
  • Tendency to hang out in gangs
  • Keenness to start physical fights
  • Using weapons in physical fights
  • Lying
  • Law-breaking behaviour such as stealing, deliberately lighting fires, breaking into houses, shoplifting, sexual abuse and vandalism
  • A tendency to run away
  • Learning difficulties
  • Low self-esteem
  • Suicidal tendencies.

This young man is a danger to society and will blame everyone but himself. I hope the little one survives without permanent injuries, probably not a realistic hope though. :(

It says in the above article that he 'slipped away from his minders.' That sounds to me like they were in the art museum and he slipped away. But I could be mistaken.

That is possible I guess. We will have to await some more facts. I think you have to pay to get in the Tate Modern so he can't have just wandered in IMO.

I'm wrong, it is free entry but some individual exhibits have to be paid to enter.

"He is stockily built and gets angry when he is denied something that he wants or is told what to do.

“He’s also intelligent. I watched an edition of the TV quiz show The Chase with him once and he answered every single question correctly.

“Something must have gone seriously wrong at the Tate because he’s not allowed out unless accompanied by at least two support staff.

"There will have to be a serious inquiry into what he was doing there.”

Police were investigating whether the teenager absconded from his unit or bolted from staff escorting him on a day trip."

I think he was probably on a day trip and slipped away.
