Man remanded over woman murder plot

Rafal Piotr Nowak, 31, faced magistrates in Bristol a day after his former partner, Anna Julia Lagwinowicz, 32, was at the same court to face the same charge.

Nowak is charged with conspiring with Lagwinowicz and others to murder his girlfriend, which is said to have been committed between May 1 and September 13.
.......
Jeffrey Bannister, defending, did not make an application for bail, telling the court: "As a tragic consequence of this incident, my client is not able to go back to the address he shared with this young lady. As a result, he cannot put forward an address."

Nowak, of Willow Way, Chard, Somerset, was remanded into custody to appear alongside Lagwinowicz at Bristol Crown Court on October 9.

A 38-year-old man arrested in connection with the inquiry remains in police custody.

Possibly been planned for a while then......

I don't get it. He posts OTT gooeyness about how wonderful she is on his FB, he smiles and simpers his way through a professional photo shoot, while all the time conspiring to murder her.

And I don't get this.... If he doesn't want to be with her, has fallen in love (or even just bed) with someone else, then just tell her it's over FFS. Why murder her?

This is a very sad story & reminds me Diane Zemora & her cadet boyfriend-forget his name!I really want to know what the motive behind this senseless killing!!

I live in the same town and there are rumors going around as to the motive, they are both due back in court tomorrow so maybe more info will come out then.

Police have been granted an extra 36 hours to question whoever this woman is that's been arrested. So magistrates must think the police have something that warrants further questioning.

"I would also like to speak to anyone who saw a white transit or smaller van or was in a white transit or smaller van that was parked in the vicinity of the scene.

"My final appeal is to members of the public who saw anyone in the area wearing a high visibility jackets, these people may have information that is significant to this investigation."

I think that police may have reason to suspect that someone staged an accident or some such ruse to divert her from the main road to the area where she was ambushed.

MOO

Now this is a turn up...

Do you know this man?

I wonder if they found the picture on her phone, or if it's from a dating site?

A cheating Polish factory worker killed his British girlfriend so they could cash in on life insurance and property as part of a plot he hatched with his jealous lover, a court heard.

Rafal Nowak is believed to have smothered business analyst Catherine Wells-Burr with a pillow as she slept in their new home in Chard, Somerset, the jury were told.

It was claimed he had hatched the murder plot with his former partner Anna Lagwinowicz, who he had got back together with, and her uncle Tadevsz Dmytryszyn, 38, so he could cash in her £123,000 life insurance policy.

They are said to have set fire to her body by the road at around 6am - giving Nowak enough time to arrive at his factory job nearby and have an alibi.

They then allegedly created a fake trail of text messages with a 'mystery man' which implied that 23-year-old Miss Wells-Burr was having an affair and he was responsible for her death.

Texts between specially purchased phones and SIM cards were exchanged to create a 'false trail' to implicate Catherine's 'secret lover' in her death.

That explains the photo in post #47 then...

Forensic scientists established Wells-Burr had been wearing a pair of shorts when the fire was lit – her preferred nightwear, not the sort of outfit she would have worn to meet someone. They discovered a pillow was missing from her bed and a single pillow case had been washed and was hanging on a clothesline, leading officers to think she had been smothered.

Throw the book at this lot.

Be a peace Catherine :rose:

Trial judge Mrs Justice Sharp imposed mandatory life sentences with minimum jail terms of 32 years on the three Polish nationals.

'The judge said it herself - all three of them were in it together. It was a meticulously planned killing, totally unnecessary, motivated purely by greed and financial gain and that's why the sentences are as they are.
'The victim in this case was innocent, honest, decent and hard working. The kind of young woman that any parent would be pleased and proud to have as a daughter and it's such a sad, sad loss.'
