Claudia Lawrence: New leads after search offer no hope, mum says

Claudia Lawrence's mother has "no hope" new leads from the public will help to find her daughter after a search failed to find major clues.

Hopes of a breakthrough in the missing 35-year-old's case were dashed when the two-week evidence hunt ended on Sunday.

Police said news of the operation at Sand Hutton gravel pits, near York, had prompted people to provide fresh tips.

But Claudia's mother, Joan, said she did not believe these would bring an end to her 12-year wait for answers.

"You can't constantly live in hope and have it dashed, it's absolutely soul-destroying," she said.

im no good at posting links, but if. you look at BBC news website and go to the local news for Nottingham, you'll see that the police have started digging up a garden...they say there are no links to. the present occupants of the house and no threat to the public...its obviously part of a major operation but they're keeping tight lipped about it..just saying they're searching as a result. of a tip off

as usual, probably nothing to do with claudia, but im watching news sites for this kind of thing...so far no new information about the skeleton found in woods in the Newcastle area

Got it. BBC Sept 22 Nottingham garden searched as part of undisclosed investigation

While the actual search of Sand Hutton Gravel appears to have been somewhat fruitless, police say that they have been contacted by members of the public in the meantime.

DSI Wayne Fox gave a little more insight into the reasons yesterday, saying that separate strands of information had been received by detectives.

He said: “When we assessed these separate and independently-sourced pieces of information against the wealth of information already generated during the last 12 years, we found they correlated with other information pointing to the area of Sand Hutton.

DCI Wayne Fox said: “As a result of the publicity surrounding the last two weeks, members of the public have come forward with new information for which I am grateful. This will be assessed and investigated in the coming days and weeks."
