We are searching for missing 63-year-old David Stokes.

David was last seen at The Cabin public house in Elmer, Bognor Regis around 7.30pm on Thursday (July 14) and concerns are growing for his welfare.

He is described as 5’ 10”, of medium build and with grey hair. It is not known what clothing he may currently be wearing.

#MISSING | There will be an increased police presence in the Elmer area of Bognor Regis on Tuesday (August 2) as we continue to try and locate missing man David Stokes.

David was last seen at his home address in the village on Saturday 16 July, at about 10.30am.

David is described as 5’ 10”, of medium build and with grey hair. It is not known what clothing he may currently be wearing.

He has links to Dorset, particularly the areas of Poole and Lyme Regis. Our appeals are also being shared there.

Detective Sergeant Alan Fenn, from the West Sussex Missing Persons Team, said: “David has been missing for a considerable amount of time now and we are growing more and more concerned for this welfare, as are his family and friends.

“Enquiries are continuing all the time and we hope that a day of action in his local area will shed some new light on his whereabouts, leading to him being found safe.

“We would ask residents to check any sheds, outbuildings and garages for David, and to report anything suspicious immediately. Officers will also be conducting house-to-house enquiries as we look to trace him.”

A body was discovered on Elmer Beach yesterday afternoon (August 18). Police responded to reports of a body being found at around 12:30pm.

The body, located on the beach near Bognor Regis, has been found whilst investigating the disappearance of David Stokes. His family have been informed about the body's discovery but a formal identification has yet to take place.

Sussex Police had previously issued several appeals to try to locate David. The 63-year-old was last seen at his home address in Elmer, Bognor Regis.
He had not been seen since Saturday (July 16) at around 10:30am. Police appeals were launched and anyone who had seen David had been urged to get in touch.

Sussex Police has now issued the following statement: "Shortly after 12.30pm on Thursday (August 18) police responded to a report of a body found at a beach near Bognor Regis. Detectives investigating missing David Stokes have informed the family about the discovery, but a formal identification has not taken place."

#UPDATE | We're sorry to report that the body of a man found in Elmer, Bognor Regis, on Thursday 18 August has sadly been confirmed as 63-year-old David Stokes, who had been reported missing in July.

Mr Stokes’ family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. A coronial inquest will be scheduled in due course.
