South Yorkshire Police officers were called to High Melton College at about 14:45 GMT on Tuesday where workmen had found what appeared to be a body.

Police have confirmed this morning that a body pulled from water at a sewage works plant located on the campus of a Doncaster college is male.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "An investigation is in its early stages and detectives are working alongside Yorkshire Water, underwater search teams and CSI officers to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident."

Can I ask a question please if that's ok ?? does anyone know if its easy to go from a river to end up in the sewers there is a valid reason I ask I don't no if anyone will know the answer though thank you x

Any missing persons reports of males in that area?

The only ones I can think of are Andrew Gosden (who lived just a few miles away but was last seen in London), Damion Vernon last seen Wakefield area I think, and Rory Johnson-Hatfield lost in York.

Just checked out https://www.missingpeople.org.uk/help-us-find/category/in-yorkshire-and-humberside.html and there are 32 men missing from the Yorkshire area over the last few years, but I suppose in this country the body could have come from absolutely anywhere. It also might have been there a long time.

5 listed on South Yorkshire polices page http://www.southyorks.police.uk/help-and-advice/missing-people

Andrew Gosden - Doncaster/London 2009
Steven Jones, - Doncaster 2008
Mustafa Ali Edleh - Sheffield 2005
John Bowkett - Doncaster 1992
Edmund Spencer - Barnsley 2002

I'm worried about it being Andrew, what if he went to London to meet someone he knew, only got a one way ticket as was getting a lift back, and something happened along the way. The college where the body was found is only 3.5 miles as the crow flies from Andrew's home.

Tony has just posted on the unmentionable, that he is about to pen an update, so hopefully we will have some news in the morning.

Nicola has just confirmed that Doncaster man is not Corrie.

Out of those 5 missing from the area (which even is hopeful, the poor soul found could really be a huge amount of missing persons), I really can't pick a single one. There's just too little information. However, I think the reason very little has been released is out of respect for a family who surely will be getting some very sad news :(

Unless the body was wrapped or contained in some way ie: plastic bags/suitcase,
I think that we should be looking at more recent cases (last couple of months) as the remains were described as "a body" and identification as male only took a day. To me, this suggests the body was still intact. I think water and bacterial action in a sewage works would speed up decomposition...will try to find some online info re: similar cases etc...

Recent case I can think of is Helen Bailey, who was found in her own septic tank, but as it hasn't been to trial yet, I don't think the condition of the body is known publicly.

Interested to keep an eye on this due to the potential Andrew Gosden link, as that's a pet case of mine. I hope this body can be ID'd quickly.

I wonder why they are saying it is not suspicious when they're still trying to figure out what happened?

This always surprises me too, when suspicious circumstances are 'ruled out' really early on in an investigation. I wonder how they can be so sure?

Gosh! The 'non-suspicious' is very surprising...this is often police-speak for suicide, but who would choose to end it all in the sewage works?
The only other stretches my mind can manage are perhaps a college custodian dying accidentally after checking on a blocked system....
or possibly an inebriated student on a dare or something...
Anybody else got some ideas?
ETA: sorry, was typing my post as news of the ID was posted so much of this is redundant now...
