Police in Alexandria are appealing for assistance to help trace a 36-year-old man who has been reported missing.

George Walker was last seen by a friend when he left The Burgh Bar, High Street, Dumbarton, at around midnight on Friday, 25 February, 2022.

George has not been in touch with friends or family since then and concerns are growing for his welfare.

He is described as around 6ft tall, with long brown hair and blue eyes.

When last seen, he was wearing a jumper with blue, green and white horizontal stripes, a green parka-style jacket, blue jeans and grey trainers.

Inspector Alistair Reid, of Dumbarton Police Station, said: "It is completely out of character for George not be in touch with his family or friends and he has never gone missing before.

"He is usually in daily contact with his father but hasn't been in touch with him since Friday.

"George's family are extremely worried and just want to know that he is safe.

"We are also becoming increasingly concerned.

"Extensive searches and enquiries have been carried out throughout the local area in an effort to trace George.

"If anyone has seen George, or has any information as to his whereabouts, please contact police as a matter of urgency.

"Please think back, have you noticed anyone matching his description?

"If you have, or have any information which could assist with our enquiries, please contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 0597 of Tuesday, 1 March, 2022."

We are appealing for any information that may lead to the whereabouts of George Walker. His family and friends are deeply concerned for his well-being.

George was last seen in the Burgh Bar on Dumbarton high street approximately between 11pm Friday (25/02/22) and 12am Saturday ( 26/02/22)

He is assumed to have left the pub with the intent of making his way home to Renton and has not been seen since. It has only come to light yesterday (Tuesday 01/03/22) that he is missing due to him uncharacteristically not attending his work.

George is 6’1 and of medium build with shoulder length dark blonde hair, he has distinct facial piercings in his lip on either side of his mouth and one in his right eyebrow. He was last seen wearing a green Parka style jacket, a 3 toned sweatshirt navy white and neutral colour, dark jeans and trainers.

This is completely out of character for George to go this length of time without making contact with friends or family.

Any information that may lead to his presence would be gratefully appreciated if you believe you have any details that can support the police in tracing him please call 101 and quote the reference PS-20220301-

Search under way for missing man last seen leaving pub

Looking on Google maps, a river runs all the way from Dumbarton where he went missing through to Renton where I believe he was heading home :(

The river worried me as soon as I saw it. There is, however, a cycle path which follows the river all the way from Dumbarton to Renton. It appears to be tarmaced, but it won't be covered by street lights and it runs within a few feet of the river in places. I have attached a map, onto which I have marked the cycle path in orange dots. I have also marked in blue dots the route I think George would have taken to get to the cycle path (if that is where he has ended up).

Another option is that George walked along Renton Road (the A812). This has a path alongside it all the way, but the path is narrow in places.

The front of the pub appears to be well equipped with CCTV cameras, so in theory there shouldn't be any query as to which direction he went when he first left the pub. There may, however, be a back entrance to the pub, which may not be covered by CCTV - it isn't easy to see on Google maps.

Inspector Morven Sutherland, of Clydebank Police Station, said: "One week has now passed since George was last seen and his family remain extremely concerned and anxious about his welfare.

"Through our extensive enquiries we know the last sighting of George was of him walking in the direction of West Bridgend, towards the bridge over the River Leven, after leaving The Burgh Bar, in Dumbarton on Friday, 25 February, 2022.

First thing I did when reading the circumstances behind George's disappearance was to look for the nearest body of water.
My heart sunk when I saw that river running all the way along his route home.

Unfortunately, I think this will end in the same way that most cases of an unaccompanied male making his way home after leaving a bar do, he'll be in the river.

He has not yet been formally identified. However, the family of George Walker, 36, from Dumbarton who had previously been reported missing has been informed.

There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sadly this outcome was enevitable.

Something needs to be done about raising awareness of the dangers of walking home alone after heavy drinking, far too many young men have lost their lives after leaving a bar to walk home alone and they almost always end up in a body of water.

It seems to happen almost exclusively to men, that's probably because girls tend to stick with each other to make sure that everyone gets home safely.

There are a lot of cases in the UK where someone is found in water after walking home alone, I have always drilled this into my older boys but they wouldn't have been aware of it otherwise and none of their friends have known about it either.

Everyone, male or female, needs to start taking care of themselves as a group while on a night out.
RIP George
