A girl aged nine is "fighting for her life" after a shooting in which three adults were also injured in Hackney, east London.

The "innocent victim" was having dinner with her family in a restaurant in Kingsland High Street, Dalston, when shots came from outside at about 21:20 BST on Wednesday, Ch Supt James Conway of the Metropolitan Police said.

Three men, aged 26, 37 and 42, sitting outside the restaurant were also injured by gunshot, believed to have come from a stolen motorbike.

They and the girl, who are not believed to be known to each other, remain in hospital, with one of the men potentially suffering "life-changing" injuries.

Ch Supt James Conway said there were two crime scenes - one where the shooting had happened and another at Colvestone Crescent, where the motorbike was recovered.
He said: "We do not believe that the girl and the men injured were known to each other.
“As with any child, she was an innocent victim of the indiscriminate nature of gun crime.”
He added: "Events such as these are rarely spontaneous.
"Someone knows who is responsible for this shooting that has left a little girl fighting for her life."
Officers were “keeping an open mind” as to the motive, Ch Supt Conway said.

Ch Supt Conway added: “We are keen to identify other witnesses who were in the area around the scene at the time of the shooting.

“Similarly, if you were in the Kingsland High Street area at the time of the shooting and have information or footage from a phone or other device, please share that with us."

Hackney shooting: girl, nine, in critical condition and three men wounded

Child seriously injured in drive-by shooting as she ate with her family at north-east London restaurant

A nine-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was shot and left seriously wounded by a hitman on a motorbike while she ate with her family inside a Turkish restaurant.

Witnesses told of scenes of horror and terror after shots were fired from the motorbike, which pulled up outside Evin restaurant in Dalston, north-east London, letting off a volley of at least four rounds at about 9.20pm on Wednesday.

The restaurant owner told the Guardian he saw a man on the motorbike as diners dived for cover, and that the wounded child had been “very lively and happy in the moments before the shooting”. She was shot in front of her parents, with the mother distraught as her daughter lay critically wounded.

Parts of the incident, including the motorbike pulling up outside the restaurant, have been captured on CCTV, which detectives are examining.

Three men dining outside, aged 26, 37 and 42, were hit and wounded. At least one bullet entered the popular Turkish restaurant on Kingsland High Street, seriously wounding the girl.

Police do not believe she was known to the three men who were shot. Police said the injured adults were stable but one of the men had sustained “life-changing injuries.”

Police believe the attack was probably planned. The motorbike they believe was used in the attack was found abandoned a short distance away in Colvestone Crescent, about 200 metres from the scene of the shooting.

The life of a nine-year-old girl shot in a botch gangland assassination attempt at a restaurant in east London hangs in the balance as she fights for her life on a ventilator, it's claimed.

The youngster was shot in the head and surgeons at a London hospital where she is being treated have so far been unable to remove the bullet.

Grandmother Mary, from India, is quoted by the New Indian Express newspaper saying: 'The child is on the ventilator.

'Even after major surgery, the doctors haven't been able to remove the bullet.

'Another major operation is scheduled after two days.

We are releasing an image of the motorbike today and want to hear from anyone who might recognise it

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, local policing lead for Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said:

I wanted to update you on the dreadful incident that took place on Kingsland High Street in Hackney, where a young girl and three men were shot.

We remain in close contact with our colleagues in the NHS, who have been working around the clock to provide urgent care to the victims, including the young girl, who I’m very sad to say remains in a critical condition.

Specialist family liaison officers continue to support her family. The thoughts of everyone at the Met remain with the girl and her family at this unimaginably difficult time.

Two other men aged 44 and 42 remain in hospital in a stable condition, with one facing life-changing injuries.

The third man – aged 37 – has been discharged from hospital.

I would like to thank the extraordinary healthcare professionals for their dedication and care to the patients in the wake of this horrific incident.

Our investigation continues at pace, with a dedicated team of detectives piecing together the facts and an unrelenting focus on tracing those responsible.

One crime scene remains in place in Kingsland High Street and my officers continue to provide reassurance to the local community, supported by armed officers.

We know that the offender fired from a motorbike at approximately 9.20pm on Wednesday evening. This bike was a Ducati Monster, with a white body, red chassis and red wheels. Officers have now established that the motorbike was previously stolen in 2021 from a property in Wembley. At the time of the shooting the bike was displaying the registration plates DP21OXY.

We are releasing an image of the motorbike today and want to hear from anyone who might recognise it. I am particularly keen to hear from you if you saw it on the day of the incident. Or perhaps you recognise it from being parked up in a driveway or a specific location? Or do you know someone who has been using this bike at any point over the past three years? It may not have always displayed those registration plates.

Any information - no matter how big or small - could prove vital.

This shocking attack will have had an element of pre-planning. This means there are people who will know something which may be crucial to our investigation.

Gun crime has no place on the streets of London and this reckless act has left a young child fighting for her life. I am making a direct plea to those with information that might help us to bring those responsible to justice.

We are specifically reaching out to our Turkish and Kurdish communities, particularly in north and east London, who I know are shocked and appalled by this crime. This is because the three men who were shot have connections with these communities.

Erim Metto, CEO of the Turkish Cypriot Association, added: “As a community we are shocked by the incident that occurred at a restaurant in Hackney which has led to four people being shot, including a young child.

“We urge anyone from the Turkish and Kurdish communities that may have any information to come forward and speak to police.

“If you do not feel comfortable to speak with police directly, you may do so through your community leaders, your faith leaders, Turkish Police Association or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

“We as a community stand against violence and gun crime.”

You can call 101 or our dedicated incident room on 020 8345 3865 or pass information on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Or evidence can be sent to police via the MIPP Portal link: https://mipp.police.uk/operation/01MPS24W56-PO1

Is this him too? Must be surely.

A girl fighting for life after a drive-by shooting is responding to her parents' voices and squeezed her father's hand yesterday.

The nine-year-old, who was shot in the head while having dinner with her family in an east London restaurant last Wednesday night, is said to be 'improving', according to a close family friend.

It is understood that the family from Birmingham, who were visiting friends for the half-term holiday, had not planned to eat at the Turkish restaurant in Hackney and only stopped there en route because the child suddenly felt hungry.

So glad to hear of her progress :)

What a cruel twist of fate that they only stopped at the restaurant as she was suddenly hungry though

Why shoot randomly like this? They could have just followed the one they wanted home and got him there.
This is insane evil and I hope they get locked up for eternity. I wonder if it was a kid hired by someone. Or a grandpa filled with rage. You never know anymore.
All my thoughts go out to this girl and her family, please make it...

Very similar to Rhys Jones, the shooters just don't care who gets caught in the cross fire.

Inside bloody turf war between the Tottenham Turks and Hackney Bombacilar that left girl, nine, fighting for her life in Dalston drive-by shooting - as rival gangs battle it out to win control of Britain's heroin trade

A bloody war for control of the UK's lucrative heroin trade is believed to be behind a drive by shooting that left a nine-year old girl still desperately fighting for her life in hospital.

The shots that were fired by a helmeted attacker on a stolen motorbike towards a restaurant on Kingsland High Street, Hackney, last week are reportedly part of a long running feud between two rival gangs known as the Tottenham Turks and the Hackney Bombacilar, which means bombers in Turkish.

According to reports, the three men who suffered gunshot wounds had links to the Bombacilar clan. One is understood have been recently released from jail and was wearing an electronic tag on his leg as part of the terms of his probation.

The intended target, Beytullah Gunduz, 37, left the restaurant moments before the attack but was previously the victim of a hit when he was shot in the neck by a Tottenham Turks assassin and has himself been cleared of organising another hit.

The Bombacilar mob has acquired a fearsome reputation within London's Turkish community and is run by the Baybasin brothers, who are simply referred to as 'the family.'

The head of the vicious mob was previously Huseyin Baybasin, 67, who has been called the 'Pablo Escobar of Europe' and nicknamed 'the Emperor' after taking control of much of the heroin being exported from the poppy fields of Afghanistan in the 1970s.

The force said the suspects fled on a Ducati Monster motorbike before dumping it nearby on Colvestone Crescent.

In 2021, the bike - described as having a white body, red chassis, red wheels and a registration plate of DP21 OXY - was stolen from a property in Wembley, north London, the Met said.

Det Ch Supt James Conway, the local policing lead for Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said: “We will always be directed by the evidence and a critical line of enquiry has been the potential link to Turkish-originating organised criminal networks.

“Sadly, a nine-year-old girl who was simply having dinner with her family is now in a hospital bed fighting for her life.

"It is therefore important we find out the details of the individual who carried out this horrific attack and those involved in the planning."

The girl's parents say they are "devastated about what has happened".

"She only went there for ice cream and now we do not know if we will ever get our daughter back to being the smart, funny girl that she was before and whether she will be able to ever speak or move properly again."
