The body of children's author Helen Bailey was found in a septic tank at her home, a court has been told.
The 51-year-old's remains was discovered in the grounds of her house in Royston, Hertfordshire, on Friday.
She was last seen walking her pet dachshund on 11 April. The body of the dog was also found in the tank.
St Albans Crown Court was told about the discovery during a hearing in the case against her partner Ian Stewart, 55, who is charged with her murder.
Mr Stewart, of Baldock Road, Royston is also charged with perverting the course of justice and preventing a lawful burial.

He appeared via video link and did not enter a plea. He is next due in court on 14 October.

The results of a post-mortem examination have not yet been released.

The partner of Northumberland children's author Helen Bailey has appeared in court via video link charged with her murder.
Ian Stewart, 55, of Baldock Road, Royston, spoke only to confirm his name during the short hearing at St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday afternoon.
He spoke via video link from HMP Bedford wearing a grey T-shirt and could be seen shaking his head often during the eight-minute hearing.
Stewart was arrested by Hertfordshire Police when the body of the 51-year-old writer, originally from Ponteland, was found in the garden of her sprawling home in Royston on Friday.
Ms Bailey's body was found in a septic tank at the property alongside her dog.
Post-mortem examinations have been carried out on Ms Bailey and her dog but are awaiting further tests.

Judge Andrew Bright QC remanded Stewart in custody.
He will appear in court on October 14 for a plea and trial preparation hearing, and a trial is expected to begin on January 9.

Not another head shaker

PS this is for Michelle :D

Not great news re the PMs. I do hope the further tests will reveal something.

Thank god for the neighbors tip, or, the previous owners humor. IS seemed pretty confident they wouldn't find her, I mean, he actually went on holiday for a few weeks.... talk about grief ;)

Absolutely thank god for those neighbours. It doesn't bear thinking about, if they had never found Helen and Boris and he would have carried on peddling his lies about how she was depressed and had deserted him...and no doubt saying he had to use some of her money to keep the house going

Shaking his head....does that mean he is still denying it or in denial? I would feel happier if there was some reporting of who else was resident in that house over the weekend of April 9/10 and that Monday, 11th. So far we have been given to think just the deceased and IS were there. Where were the sons, that were reported to have lived there, on those three days? I would feel easier knowing they had good, verifiable alibis.

That seems VERY short, even if it's an open and shut case.

That is still going into three weeks, then there will be the jury out for however long that make take them. Unless of course he pleads guilty in October, then that is another story.

Yes, I think people aren't nosy or interfering enough - when it's safe to be. It's a shame they didn't say anything the first time, or that the previous owner didn't contact the police with the info. I'm assuming he would have been keenly following the news, given that he had sold the house to Helen, and it was his old home.

In the USA defendants have a right to a speedy trial (it usually ends up waived), what about in the UK?

I'm not sure what a speedy trial is. It has to be long enough to present all the evidence, can't see any short cuts to that. I suppose admissions of certain evidence cut it down to an extent, where the defence agrees some matters.

I agree, while its easy to just say "ooh the B******" ... Ian Stewart 'IS' innocent UNTIL proved guilty ...

7-10 days is within two weeks.

I'm sure the police have checked this.
