Police have confirmed sightings of missing terror suspect Daniel Khalife in Chiswick, west London, as they released a new description.
He is said to be wearing a black baseball cap, black t-shirt and dark-coloured clothes on his legs, as well as carrying a small bag or case.
Police said "intensive" searches were under way in Chiswick, about 4.5 miles from HMP Wandsworth, from where the former soldier escaped.
He escaped hiding under a delivery van.
On Friday, Met Police officers were carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the hunt for the 21-year-old, alongside combing through CCTV footage and using a police helicopter searching areas of west and south-west London.
The force is also offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information that leads directly to the remand prisoner's arrest.

Khalife arrested just before 11:00 BST

In its update, the Metropolitan Police said the missing prisoner was stopped just before 11:00 BST in the Chiswick area.

He is currently in custody, the force confirmed.

Just about to post this! Thanks for updating. Didn't think they would find him this quickly TBH.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak 'very pleased' Khalife arrested

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was "very pleased" Daniel Khalife had been arrested, praising police officers and the public for their efforts in finding him.

Speaking at the G20 summit in Delhi, the PM said: "I'm very pleased with the news and my thanks to the police officers for their fantastic work over the past couple of days, but also to the public who came forward with an enormous number of leads to help the police in their inquiries.

"It's good news that we captured the person concerned. As people already know, the justice secretary has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances of his escape and that work will continue.

"And this is obviously very welcome news. And again, my thanks to the police but also to the public for their help."

Celebrations in Scotland Yard after arrest

The champagne corks are metaphorically popping in Scotland Yard.

Because despite the fact Daniel Khalife has been on the run since the middle of the week, after an extraordinary, daring and quite sophisticated breakout from prison, the Metropolitan Police have manged to track him down very rapidly.

Once it became clear there were sightings in Chiswick, the force were able to use all their assets, technology and people on the ground to basically tighten the net over a series of hours.

  5. He had previously been charged with terror offences and had been in Wandsworth on remand pending trial''
''Daniel Khalife - who was for a time this week Britain's most wanted man - was born in Westminster in 2001 - along with his twin sister.
He is British and has Lebanese heritage on his father's side. His parents split up when he was young.
Growing up, Mr Khalife's family life was in and around the south-west London borough of Kingston upon Thames.
He attended Teddington School, a local mixed comprehensive with good results, and left after his GCSEs in 2018.
People who remember him from the time who have spoken to BBC News have not recalled anything that would have made them think he would end up a terrorist suspect on the run.
One former school friend said he was quite a funny character, just a normal teenager - and certainly not badly behaved.

Mr Khalife was also remembered as a talented runner - a natural gift that may have been in use during his prison break-out.''

Aerials of manhunt for escaped prisoner Daniel Khalife in West London. Police have confirmed sightings of Daniel Abed Khalife in the Chiswick area of west London overnight as the force revealed the outfit the fugitive terror suspect is believed to have changed into after escaping Wandsworth Prison. Following “intelligence-led activity and some confirmed sightings”, the Metropolitan Police said it is focusing the national manhunt for Khalife in Chiswick on Saturday, with officers set to carry out “further intensive search activity” there throughout the day.''

This is the dramatic moment terror suspect and fugitive Daniel Khalife was arrested by undercover police today in west London after four days on the run.

Video obtained by The Sun appeared to show the moment Khalife, 21, was caught by undercover police near London's Grand Union Canal.

He was seen with a sleeping bag, a bike and a Waitrose cool bag full of groceries, reports said.

An eyewitness who filmed the arrest told The Sun that he saw 'this man with cable ties around his hands' and that plain-clothes police identified Khalife to him.

Officers caught the former soldier just before 11:00am today in the Chiswick area, and he is currently in police custody, the Met said in a statement this morning.

They thanked the public for their cooperation and said they would provide further updates on the arrest 'in due course'.

Police in Chiswick had been searching car boots and asking residents for IDs this morning as they widened their search.

Dog units, armed officers and a police boat were also on standby to support intensive searches today.

''Daniel Khalife was obsessed with the SAS and often went on lone survival weekends, a former Army pal has claimed.

The ex-soldier told the Daily Mirror: “When we did a survival course he really excelled at it. He would disappear at the weekend with a few bits of camping gear, spending the night out in the open.”

The source, who trained with Khalife in Rhino Troop, 2 Squadron, 11 Signals Regiment, at Blandford Camp, Dorset, added: “He really thought that one day he would get into the SAS, using what he learned in training. That was his dream. And he was always saying he was Middle Eastern and was even trying to learn Farsi from a language learning app.”

''Another military source said: "He was always pulling pranks and had to be the centre of attention. Which is ironic now because he appears to be Britain's most wanted man."

I am guessing sudden mental health breakdown, reading comments from former acquaintances. And I'm also guessing his father put a lot of pressure on him to succeed - and maybe his mother too, just to please the father.
You don't go from regular jokey guy to extremist under normal circumstances or in a month.
imo, look into dad a bit more.

I seldom comment, but I'm struggling to understand why a 21 year old lad with two allegations and no convictions who was held in a category B prison is now Britain's most wanted man. Am I missing something?
I hadn't considered those questions. Good question

AFAIK from a cursory understanding ( because I've not been following it closely)
- he shouldn't have been in Cat B. Should have been in A.
- terror angle ( albeit a fake bomb)
- dramatic escape + on the run
- Iranian spy angle ( not confirmed. speculation)
- great story

anyway caught now

reading the new links on this WS page was he more of an attention-seeker/unwell than a committed terrorist?

The US has made great improvements, thanks to Ring Doorbell system but London and Europe have tremendous advantage for tracking individuals with their network of info from their CCTV system.
Heard a Met copper recently compare the amount of cameras in inner London as being on a par with Chinese state surveillance.

wow!

'At 10.41am he was arrested in Rowdell Road in UB5 in London on the canal towpath.

He was actually arrested by a plain clothes officer... and he was riding a pedal cycle so a pushbike at the time, was pulled off that pushbike by that officer and arrested at that location.

Upon being detained by the officer he was fully co-operative and handcuffed and arrested.'

( apprehended on canal tow path, less CCTV on towpaths. A favourite of contestants on Channel 4's ' Hunted' show)

Terror suspect and fugitive Daniel Khalife was pulled from a bicycle by an undercover officer in a dramatic end to the four-day manhunt, police said today.

A plain-clothes counter-terrorism officer 'recognised him on the pushbike and in essence pulled him off the bike' at 10:41 this morning, Commander Dominic Murphy told reporters in a press briefing this afternoon.

Metropolitan police said they traced Khalife down after members of the public got in touch to report sightings in the Church Street and Chiswick Mall area following an intelligence-led search at a residential address last night.

The search steadily narrowed to an area of west London, with counter terrorism officers working with the public and other partners in the lead up to the climactic finale on a canal tow path on Rowdell Road.

Murphy thanked the public for their help in locating Khalife, who was arrested for being 'unlawfully at large' and further arrested at the police station for 'escaping from lawful custody'.

Police said they would still looking for anybody who might have helped him, but confirmed 'no other arrests were made at this time'.

All that effort to escape and in 4 days he only managed to get 7 miles away from the jail.

I was certain he must have had help on the outside once he had escaped and would have been long gone by now, instead it looks like he was just a chancer who ultimately failed and has probably made his overall situation significantly worse!
