I can see why LE thought that the motive was probably sexual ( suspect's in the right age group at least ). But, LE did say there was no sexual assault. An interesting question is why not ? What happened ? Did Jo fight right away, or maybe name call him ? Or was it some other factor that prevented a sexual assault happening ? Loads of questions, few answers. And some of them will never be answered,IMO...

I'm lost...Are the LE saying there was no sexual assault but there was sex by consent?

Agree, I thought I read the girlfriend Tanja was helping police with enquiries .... but from Chile? Doubt it

Yes, I read that too. The Daily Star believes she is visiting friends in the Netherlands.

Make up your mind journalists! Or at least check your facts before going to print!

It doesn't look too good for the girlfriend either, then, if she's helping with enquiries.

according to the Star, she's believed to be visiting friends in the Netherlands.....maybe that has something to do with the police earlier saying they were getting international assistance or something?

Anyone know - was the gf in the UK on the 17th?

I have read vt used to live in Bath and he worked in same/similar profession as Jo did,its quite possible they knew each other before they moved to Bristol,as they both lived and worked in Bath, how do 2 architects who both have worked and lived in the same smallish town like Bath end up living next to each other in Bristol?,this could of course be coincidence, but the scenario is wide open for other theories.

CJ's supposedly vague tale of 3 people milling around the communal entrance at 9ish could well be JY arriving home at the same time as the couple we have heard of today - she might have popped across the front lawn to collect her post from the communal hallway and chatted with them briefly - then they invited her to join them for the evening....she goes home briefly to drop things off.....door on the latch
maybe?

I thought more along these lines : he may have tried to force himself on her.She could have either hit him, name called him, Who knows.Made him angry enough to throttle her ? IDK. But,I think LE is speculating that the motive was sexual..Why ? IDK that either. But,it could have been attempted rape ?

Speaking from their home in Ampfield, Hants, David said: “Both Teresa and I are pleased an arrest has been made and the investigation is moving forward.

“Police informed us this morning before they made the announcement about the arrest and other than that we do not know much more.

“We are optimistic about the progress, but we have not been told the name of the person who has been arrested.” Jo’s best pal Emma Brooks, 25, who studied with her at Writtle College in Chelmsford, Essex, added: “It is good news, but it is just a case of waiting to see if they have enough to charge him.

“At least the police have something now. It shows the investigation is still going strong, but to be honest I never thought it wasn’t. These things take time. We have to sit tight.”

I get the impression, Jo's parents and friend think they have the right person and this is the same person the latest appeal was directed towards.

Last night, it emerged three partial DNA profiles were found on her jeans, stomach and breasts
Sounds like something 'sexual' could have happened.

It was revealed officers had him under surveillance before swooping.Police set up scaffolding around his basement flat at Canynge Road in the early hours yesterday, and specialist search teams moved in.

Detectives were advised on the arrest by veteran cops at the *Homicide Working Group.

Two officers stood guard outside the house where Tabak was held as forensic experts looked for clues. The home belongs to Emily and her sister Lucy. Neither was said to be at the property.
It is not known if a Crimewatch reconstruction of Jo’s last *movements, due to be screened next week, will now go ahead.

If the crimewatch prog doesn't go ahead, they must be pretty sure they've got the perp.

But they did say there was no signs of a struggle.

"Mr Tabak’s girlfriend’s dad Geoffrey Morson, from Cambridge, said: “We are a very close family and I speak to my daughter all the time, but she has not told me anything.
“I do not know if he is her boyfriend. He’s a boy, she’s a girl and they are very friendly with each other."

Huh?

Joanna Yeates murder: a quiet, lonely Dutchman who came to life after finding love

Could the gf have dumped him before Christmas, I wonder. That might have had repercussions.

But they did say there was no signs of a struggle.

May not have been. He could have overpowered her quite quickly, especially if he was angry.... She may not have had time to actually disturb anything around her ?
