Missing Kyle Vaughan's terminally-ill mum: 'Let me bury my son before I die'

THE terminally-ill mother of missing Newbridge man Kyle Vaughan is facing her second birthday without knowing what has happened to him.

And Mary Vaughan says she is so depressed she recently fell into a diabetic coma because she couldn't face taking care of herself.

It is now almost 15 months since 24-year-old Kyle went missing in December 2012, and his heartbroken mother will have her 52nd birthday on Sunday without her only child by her side.

The family of a Newbridge man missing for two years say all they want for Christmas is to know what happened to him. Kyle Vaughan, 25, disappeared after being involved in a collision in December 2012. In a heartbreaking appeal his terminally ill mother Mary said she just wants to bring his body home.

Bumping for Kyle.

I occasionally drive past the spot where his car was found and the posters appealing for information are still there.
Hoping that something new can come to light before the third anniversary of his disappearance.

I drove past Kyle’s sign again yesterday.
Sad to see that almost 3 years on there’s still no news and it appears that the sign has suffered storm damage and not been repaired / replaced.

For those of you who are not familiar with the case and don’t want to click through a dozen links from the various posts, here’s a summary of the story:

Kyle disappeared on 30th December 2012.
The last believed sighting of him was on the A467 road between Risca and Crosskeys sometime between approximately 11:00pm and 11:45pm. Early reports suggested that he was hitchhiking, but I haven’t seen that particular piece of information repeated since the very early stages of the disappearance.

Police found Kyle’s silver Peugeot abandoned along that same stretch of road at 11:45pm with evidence that it had been involved in a collision – it’s unknown who was driving at the time of the collision or exactly when the collision occurred. I’d suggest though that since it’s a well-driven, fast road without a proper ‘hard-shoulder’ any abandoned car would be causing an obstruction and would have been reported promptly to the police, which fits with the timing of the sighting of him on foot.

Concern over Kyle’s welfare was raised early on due to his Diabetes and his need for regular insulin injections but despite intensive searches of the river and other areas, Kyle hasn’t been seen since.

Here in the UK, most evidence isn’t made public until after a trial has been concluded. Clearly though, the police must have uncovered something that indicated foul play because from the very first days this has been treated as a murder investigation.

Just over a week after the disappearance, a 27 year old man from Blackwood was arrested on suspicion of murder.
This was followed by 5 further arrests :

A 25 year old man also from Blackwood and also arrested on suspicion of murder
A 22-year-old woman from Newbridge arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice
A 62-year-old man from Newbridge arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice
A 21-year-old man from Newbridge arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender
A 15-year-old boy from Abercarn arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender

By the end of January, two more arrests had been made also on suspicion of murder :
A 27-year-old woman from Cwmfelinfach
A 28-year-old man from Cwmfelinfach

Making a total of 8 people under arrest and on release under police bail.

A year later, all bar the two Blackwood men had been informed that no further action was to be taken against them and in February this year (2015) the CPS announced that charges against the two Blackwood men should also be dropped due to insufficient evidence.

I don’t think there’s anything that can be done here. Very little information is in the public domain and it's never likely to become public unless this goes to trial, but please spare a spare a thought for Kyle’s family this Christmas. People don’t just disappear into thin air and 3 years is just way too long for his family to be without answers.

The police obviously have their theory and their suspects but with insufficient evidence it seems that they’ve hit a brick wall and of course, they may not even be correct with their suspicions. I’m hoping that 2016 will be the year that Kyle is found and his family will finally get some answers.

Third anniversary coming up.

It'd be nice if Kyle's mother could get some closure before it's too late.

A terminally ill mother has issued a plea to find out where her missing son’s body is before she dies.

Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of 24-year-old Kyle Vaughan, whose crashed car was found abandoned on a country road in south Wales in 2012 and prompted detectives to launch a murder investigation.

Today, on the third anniversary of his disappearance, his mother Mary has launched an appeal for people to come forward with information. The 53-year-old, who has advanced liver cancer, has been told by doctors she may have just weeks to live. She has said she cannot bear the thought of dying without knowing what happened to her only child.

I've only just stumbled on this case online, and came to see if we had a thread.

Immediate reminders of Claudia Lawrence with all those various arrests and bails.

So sad. We just have to hope (in both cases) that one day somebody's conscience leads them to spill the beans.

Death certificate issued. No update on his mother's health.
A man whose disappearance nearly four years ago sparked a murder investigation has been presumed legally dead by a High Court judge.

Kyle Vaughan, 24, vanished after he was involved in a road crash on the day before New Year’s Eve 2012, sparking a huge search by police and members of the community.

His silver Peugeot 306 was found on the A467 between Risca and Crosskeys after a suspected collision on December 30, 2012.Kyle, from Newbridge , has not been seen since.

On Friday, Gwent Police said: “We can confirm the family of Kyle Vaughan has received a presumption of death certificate from the High Court Judge.”

A memorial service was held for Kyle last month.

Stories about Mr Vaughan losing money on fruit machines, having some of the “worst tattoos in South Wales”, and his football trivia knowledge were fondly remembered during the touching service.

Also remembered was Mr Vaughan’s selfless nature, and the fact he was always willing to help his friends or on the end of a telephone.

His friend, Rob Green, said: "He was genuinely one of the most selfless people I have ever met.

“He was the type of person who if he had £5 in his wallet would try to give you £6.

“He was warm, selfless, funny, charming and kind.”

E.T.A - Kyle’s sign is still there. The police have never given up, I’m local to the point he disappeared and it’s not uncommon to stumble upon areas that have been cordoned off for professional searches while out walking especially in the summer months.

Very sad - I'd missed that news.

I was driving along that stretch last week which is what prompted me to look for any updates :(

Incredibly sad. Hopefully one day his remains are found and the people responsible prosecuted to bring some closure to his remaining family members.
