''A man who was attacked in the vicinity of Notting Hill Carnival has died from his injuries.

Mussie Imnetu, who was 41 and visiting the UK from Dubai where he lived and worked, was found unconscious with a head injury in Queensway, W2 at 23:22hrs on Monday, 26 August.

Officers provided emergency first aid until paramedics arrived. Mussie was taken to a west London hospital where, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he sadly died on Friday, 30 August,

On Thursday, Omar Wilson, 31 (19.02.93) of Napier Road, Leytonstone was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 30 August, where he was remanded in custody to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 27 September.

In light of Mussie’s death, the offence will be reviewed in conjunction with the Crown Prosecution Service.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, leading the investigation from the Met’s Homicide Command, said: “Mussie’s family, friends and colleagues in London, Dubai, Sweden and Eritrea are inconsolable after receiving the worst news imaginable – our thoughts are with them and they are being supported by specialist officers.

“Our investigation is well advanced, but we are still very keen to hear from anyone who can help piece together Mussie’s movements between 13:00hrs when we know he left The Arts Club in Dover Street, W1 and when he arrived at Dr Power restaurant, in Queensway at 22:30hrs.

“If you visited the restaurant between 22:00hrs and 23:30hrs on Monday night or were in the area and saw something, regardless of the reason you were there, please do get in touch.

“Our focus is on what happened to Mussie. Did you speak with him at the restaurant or do you have any images or videos between these times that could assist the investigation? The attack happened around 23:20hrs. Customers at the venue tried to help stop the attack; we need to speak with these people and I urge them to contact us.”

Officers will be outside the restaurant and in the surrounding area from 2100hrs on Monday, 2 September, to hand out appeal leaflets and speak with local people one week after the murder.

Anyone with information should call the police on 101, messages @MetCC on X or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 giving the reference 8020/26AUG.

Information can also be provided online, by visiting this dedicated appeal page.''

A TOP chef who worked with Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing is fighting for his life after he was attacked at Notting Hill Carnival.

Omar Wilson, the article says he is currently self-employed and is a director for a charity, Could he be a Chugger? This is a charity worker who approaches people in the street to ask for financial support for the charity, esp regular support by direct debit. The last time I visited the UK there were groups of five or six visting market towns in the South of England trying to raise money for fighting knife crime. Saying that he is a self employed charity organiser may be rather over egging the pudding.

Looking forward to trying out this new to me phrase!

''Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our investigation has progressed at pace and a man has been charged in connection with the attack. However we are still very keen to hear from anyone who can help piece together Mussie’s movements between 13:00hrs when we know he left The Arts Club in Dover Street, W1, and when he arrived at Dr Power restaurant, in Queensway at 22:30hrs.

“We have images of a number of people who were in or near the Dr Power restaurant at the time of the attack. Are you one of the people pictured or do you recognise anyone? Did you hear or see something either before or after the attack that may help with the investigation?

“I would like to stress that none of those pictured have done anything wrong. Perhaps they were enjoying post carnival celebrations and may not live in the area but they could hold information that is important to the investigation and I urge them to contact us.”

Wow. I don't remember ever seeing an initiative like that done before - releasing so many photos of witnesses!

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a top chef after allegedly punching him multiple times in the head near Notting Hill Carnival.

Omar Wilson, 31, attended the Old Bailey on Monday accused of attacking Mussie Imnetu outside the Dr Power restaurant in Queensway on 26 August.

Mr Wilson was originally charged with causing grievous bodily harm but the charge was changed to murder following Mr Imnetu's death, the court heard.
Julian Winship, prosecuting, outlined the facts of the case, alleging Mr Wilson "headbutted" Mr Imnetu after the two interacted "in the area" of the carnival.
Around 70 seconds later, Mr Wilson allegedly "punched the deceased five times to his head" and continued "punching him to the head" after he fell to the floor, Mr Winship told the court.

Mr Wilson, of Napier Road, Leytonstone, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth in the short hearing.
He was remanded into custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing at the same court on 25 November.
A provisional trial date was also set for 3 February next year, with a time estimate of two weeks.
