DNA has been sent to the UK. A female relative in the UK made the (possible) connection.

DNA sent to UK police in search for Thai woman.

Ahhh, so it wasn't the Armitage side of the family who came forward. I wonder if they're claiming they'd never heard about it? Unlikely they wouldn't have!

In December last year, a relative of Ms Chumsi [Lamduan's mother] who lives in England learned about the discovery of the corpse in Yorkshire from a BBC news report and told Ms Armitage's parents about it. She told them the corpse could be their daughter and advised them to seek help from a Thai women's association in the UK. The association went to the British police.

Joomsri Seekanya, 73 said in 2016 Lamduan and David’s son arrived at their home to look for his mum. He was marrying and wanted to invite her to the wedding. Joomsri said: “He said his father had told him Lamduan left him and returned to Thailand to marry someone else.”

Now North Yorkshire police are investigating her marriage to David Armitage, 55, who moved to Thailand after friends and family were told Lamduan had “disappeared”.

The Sun traced David to his home in Thailand where he insisted: “I didn’t kill my wife. Absolutely not.”

He admitted there had been a whispering campaign against him within the Thai media. David added: “I know the inferences are there but I’m just getting on with my life. It’s been a long time.”

Lamduan had been living with David’s parents in Burton-in-Kendal, Cumbria — 25 miles from where the body was found.

Wow this is a massive turn of events. I'm so glad she has been identified after all this time. Can they get any dna evidence from her body if they exhume it? I think cause of death was not clear. Could have been exposure if she was left out there with no means of finding her way back.

I'm sure the police said it was murder but can't recall the details. I'll check back.

David, who works at Kanchanaburi Rajabhat University teaching English, said he had been advised by the British Embassy not to talk about the case.

EMOTIONAL FINAL PHONE CALL TO MUM
Lamduan’s mum Joomsri Seekanya, 73, said her daughter’s marriage ran into trouble. She added: “He’s British and Christian and we’re Thai and Buddhist. He is a teacher which has great status in Thailand and we are common village people. There were so many differences.”

She said Lamduan made an emotional phone call to her just before she disappeared. Joomsri said: “She said she had no money, not even a single penny. She said she missed home so much.

“It was a very short call. We’ve not heard from her since.”

Reading the link to the DM article above, it indicates she didn't die out there, she was put there after death, and possibly deliberately out of sight. Only injury was a fracture to a finger. First post indicates she was missing a tooth EDIT not missing, a gap.

Husband now lives in Thailand. If the children were told she went home to marry someone else, surely he must remember granting a divorce?

It's not putting DA in a good light, that's for sure.

Woman identified in 2004 Pen-y-Ghent body cold-case investigation – can you help?

Posted on 19 March 2019 at 14:10pm in News stories

North Yorkshire Police can confirm the identity of a south-east Asian woman whose body was discovered in a remote location on the Pennine Way, between Pen-y-ghent and Horton in Ribblesdale, on 20 September 2004.

As a result of extensive enquiries and DNA testing with family members in Thailand, the Major Investigation Team’s Cold Case Review Unit believe the woman is Lamduan Armitage nee Seekanya (pictured).

Officers are now appealing for information from the UK and Thailand.

Lamduan, who would now be aged 51 and was married with three children, is originally from the Udon Thani province in north east Thailand.

North Yorkshire Police is continuing to build a picture of Lamduan’s life in Thailand and at various places she lived in the UK between 1991 and 2004, including Portsmouth (Hampshire), Rugby (Warwickshire) and Preston (Lancashire).

It is also understood that Lamduan visited Thailand at some point between 2003 and 2004, but it is not known which part of the country she went to.

Police are working with the Crown Prosecution Service to obtain the legal authority to interview members of Lamduan’s family and conduct enquiries in Thailand with the co-operation and assistance of the Thai authorities, as well as conducting enquires in the UK.

Can you help?

We are seeking information from anyone who knew Lamduan Armitage nee Seekanya or her family between 1991 and up to the time she died in September 2004.

No matter how small or seemingly insignificant you think the information is, it could prove to be very important to help us establish details about Lamduan’s life and the circumstances surrounding her death.

If you have any information at all, please pass it on via any of the following:

  • Information can be uploaded to the Major Incident Public Portal at mipp.police.uk
  • Telephone: 01609 643147 (put +44 before the number if calling from outside the UK) – please leave a voicemail message including contact information if requested
  • Email: ColdCaseReviewUnit@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
  • If you would prefer to remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or go to crimestoppers-uk.org
  • Please quote the North Yorkshire Police reference number 12170002439 when providing information about this case

Real head scratcher this one......

Cannot think who could possibly have put her there!

Isn't it a fortunate thing for Mr Armitage that he is in Thailand from where extradition for questioning would be such a complicated matter!...what a stroke of coincidence.

I am guessing that the media have just selected part of Mr Armitage's response when asked about the matter?
It's just that i cannot see the part where he says "gosh is my wife dead?" Or "i have been wondering where she was...she only popped out for a pint of milk"
If anyone decides to run a sweepstake on the responsible party here..i just cannot imagine who i would pick :)

Looking for a new wife too poor, hungry, desperate, and naive to see through him?

It's interesting that the son felt no I'll will towards his mother for leaving. That's what l'm deducing from going to invite her to his wedding anyway. I wonder what his thoughts were when he discovered her family had not heard from her for years. Did he alert the police? Probably not as it seems a friend of hers was the instigator of the discovery of her identity.

What's the extradition agreement between the UK and Thailand?

I fully expect the Husband to be charged.

I'm not sure what official agreements are in place, but I do know a man who was convicted of tax fraud and ran off to Thailand before sentencing. This was over 30 years ago, and he is still in Thailand today.
