Police believe murder of prostitute, 16, who was found suffocated in a lay-by in 1992 could be solved with a DNA test and 'all they need' is a name

The killer of a teenager prostitute who was found suffocated in a lay-by 25 years ago could have been brought to justice with a simple DNA test - but police have never been given a name to match their samples.

Natalie Pearman, 16, was found dead in a lay-by in Norwich, Norfolk at 3.50am on 20 November 1992.

I must admit I don't remember this case as my partner and I moved away from Norwich in the summer of 1992.

She was born Natalie Jane Earp to Caroline Graham and Rodney Earp but that marriage didn't last and Caroline Graham marries Christopher Pearman which Natalie then becomes until she was found murders in Norfolk in 1992

Police investigating the murder of a teenager 25 years ago have identified five new "persons of interest".

Natalie Pearman, 16, was found dead in a lay-by at Ringland, near Norwich, on 20 November 1992.

DNA was recovered from the crime scene at the time. Police say it could hold the key to the case and have begun taking DNA samples from the five men.

The results of the DNA profiles will either confirm them as a suspect or remove them from the investigation.

Police investigating the murder of a teenager more than 25 years ago have ruled out five new "persons of interest" after negative DNA tests.

Natalie Pearman, 16, was found dead in a lay-by at Ringland, near Norwich, on 20 November 1992.

DNA recovered from the scene could hold the key to solving the case, Norfolk Police believe.

Five men identified after a fresh appeal last year have now been ruled out as suspects.

Here is a pretty recent page about unsolved cases from Norfolk and this one is included:

On Thursday, November 20 1992 a lorry driver on the way to work discovered the body of 16-year-old Natalie Pearman in a lay-by at Ringland Road on the outskirts of Norwich.

Miss Pearman had been working as a prostitute in the red light district of Norwich and was last seen alive in Rouen Road at around 1.15am - a post mortem examination revealed that Natalie had died from Asphyxia.

Forensic swabs showed that semen was present in her body and on her under garments and a DNA crime stain was obtained and loaded onto the national DNA database, the subsequent investigation interviewed over four thousand people with a large number of men providing samples for direct DNA testing.

To date the DNA profile obtained from the semen has not been matched despite a general search carried out with the National DNA Database

Found a really good article about Natalie today; originally published back in 1994, focus is more on her background and the events leading up to her death rather than the case itself, but interesting nonetheless

Death of an ordinary girl – Nick Davies

Natalie's case has been tenuously linked by the UK media to 2 other unsolved cases involving sex workers in the red light area of Norwich; the disappearance of Kellie Pratt in 1999 and the murder of Michelle Bettles in 2002

Did anyone notice the type of vehicle she went into before she died? Is there any mention of a blue BMW?

The police can use familial DNA to find the killer, the relative must have their DNA on file tho. Its probably too late to test the DNA of local men now

Natalie Pearman was just 16 when a lorry driver found her dead in a lay-by.

The teenager was murdered in November 1992, just a few hours after she was last seen working in the red light district of Norwich.

Three decades on, the case remains unsolved, despite police interviewing 4,000 people in relation to the case. Officers also believe they have the killer’s DNA profile.

Here, in her own words, Natalie's younger sister Georgina Simpson speaks about life growing up in the shadow of a sibling she barely knew and her ongoing fight for justice. [...]

"I don't think that the media assisted whatsoever, because they were more focused on the fact that she was a sex worker than the fact that she was a child." [...]
